Things to do & places to visit in Lubbock, Texas, United States
The legacy of Buddy Holly lives on in his birthplace of Lubbock, where a museum, a walk of fame and an annual music festival honor musicians hailing from the area. Its museums shed light on the agricultural and military history of the region. Lubbock's many parks, golf courses and wineries provide a relaxing break from it all. Add to all of this a hopping nightlife and Lubbock truly is the "Hub City" of activity in the South Plains area.

- 4.5 Science Spectrum Museum (272 reviews)
-Good afternoon for younger children
Sunday: 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM Speciality Museums
This museum has a lot to offer to keep little children interested and entertained for a few hours. There are 3 floors of exhibits and it looks like they are upgrading some of their areas as well. I would recommend for younger children (less than 10 yrs), and not older teenagers as the science exhibits are aimed at younger kids. It was a good environment for them to run around and explore. - 4.5 Buddy Holly Statue and West Texas Walk of Fame (163 reviews)
-A beautiful tribute
Historic Walking Areas • Monuments & Statues
After visiting the Buddy Holly Center, this is an easy stroll across the street. It’s a beautiful sculpture of Buddy Holly as well as the Texas Wall of Fame. The area has a large beautiful grass field were they hold local events. Dogs are permitted here and there are bags for dog waste. We really didn’t recognize names on the wall, but it was chilly and windy that day and we didn’t spend tons of time studying it. It’s a very fitting memorial to people and very convenient; right off the freeway. See more..
- 4.5 Museum of Texas Tech University (115 reviews)

Really enjoyed the visit, it’s like a little Museum of natural history in NY, small but many exhibits. Art, archeology, history, specialty rooms, 2 floors plus a planetarium. A good bit of dinosaurs and local animal displays. Definitely worth a stop. Teens, small children will both enjoy as adults do. Nice layout See more..
- 4.5 Jones AT&T Stadium @ Texas Tech University (105 reviews)
-Great College Football Experience.
Arenas & Stadiums
One of the best gameday atmospheres in the nation. For BIG 12 conference games this place can be ear splitting. Very loud. Fans are engaged, passionate and courteous if they are not provoked. Parking can be difficult as most close parking lots are used for a one of the best Tailgating I have seen on a college campus. They do have round trip shuttle busses from satellite lots for a good value. Ck the Tech athletic website for lots and price. Also they have concessions with extensive menus. Not just hot dogs and popcorn. See more..

- 4.5 Cactus Theater (58 reviews)
-Live Performances in Intimate Setting
Theaters
The Cactus Theater might be the best kept secret in Lubbock! I've live her 27 years and we have just discovered it this past year. My husband, adult daughter and myself hae now attended several events! Seats are reserved, and prices are reasonable, but in our opinion, it is worth it to get the best seats in the house - the box seats upstairs! These box seats cost a little more, but concessions are included (not alcohol). We have seen tribute bands, and the Pink Floyd Laser Light show which was spectacular! My husband and I enjoy going on date nights to Cactus because the shows end at 9:30, and for us older folks, that is nice! The concession stand serves beer and wine but they do not have a bar. this would be an incredible stop for people travelling with kids, We stopped after being told about it by a co-worker who grew up in the area. It was really neat. a herd of Prairie dogs that have been preserved by the city of Lubbock since 1934 I think it was. you can feed them or the city or someone had thrown out several lettuce leaves while we were there. They talk to each other and fight over the food. there are a few courageous ones who have burrowed out of the enclosure so be careful when you drive up! See more..
