Pheasant Ridge Winery, Texas, United States

4.5 (12 reviews) Tuesday: Spent 1-2 hours Ranking #25 in Lubbock Wineries & Vineyards

Great fun stop and worth a visit

This winery is on a dirt road after turning off from a dirt road. It makes the trip that much more fun and interesting. The wine tasting is very reasonable at only $5 for multiple wines. The host was very knowledgeable and provided a few interesting stories. We purchased a few of the wines and currently drinking one of them as I write the review. If your looking for a nice trip while in Lubbock area stop by and enjoy a glass.

    A wonderful afternoon
The drive down the dirt road is worth it. The tasting room is cozy but not fancy. The wine is out of this world. Pet friendly and the staff makes sure you are taken care of.

The best combo of value and excellent in the Republic
The first time we went to Pheasant Ridge the tasting room was in the barrel house and the "bar" was cable spools and picnic tables. Totally cool with that, it's part of the winemaking experience. It doesn't have to be awe-inspiring like the multi-million dollar wineries along CA Hwy 29 in Napa. Not much has changed, except the original winemaker, is back in charge after last year's sale of the winery. Good to see it open again. The wine inventory dates back a couple decades, and the quality is the same. Estate-grown, so all the wines come from RIGHT THERE. Usually when one samples wines, there is one or maybe a couple (or maybe the whole lot) that are either "meh" or worse... not at Pheasant Ridge. A knowledgeable server who pours the proper amount and enjoys his job is an excellent start. As for the wines... inexpensive doesn't mean cheap. These are SERIOUS wines which can compete globally. Their Proprietor's Reserve is a truly outstanding value, and their cabernet sauvignon is an exceptional wine no matter the vintage. Many Texas wines have a reputation for being simple plonk, so finding a place like Pheasant Ridge makes the trip out past Lubbock very much worthwhile. Only open on Friday and Saturday, so plan your visit accordingly. Hint: Use exit 14 off I-27, the southern route can be a mess if it's raining or has recently. Additional note: the venue is expanding so next time it may be a bit less "Spartan" and we hope it doesn't lose its Texas charm.
