Open Wednesday - Monday. Formerly the Nimitz Museum, the complex is now the only museum in the Continental United States centered on World War II's Pacific campaign. Since 1968, the Museum has expanded to occupy a six-acre campus and gained a reputation as one of the premier military museums in the nation. Over the years the Museum was upgraded and enlarged, and the campus grew to accommodate the Memorial Courtyard, the Plaza of Presidents, and the Japanese Garden of Peace. We opened the expanded George H. W. Bush Gallery in 2009. The Gallery's state-of-the-art 33,000 square foot exhibition features 40 media installations, approximately 900 artifacts in 97 climate-controlled cases, 15 macro-artifacts, and hundreds of photographs. Two blocks east of the main campus is the Pacific Combat Zone. Recently reopened after an $8 million renovation. Main Street image
My husband and I have been to Fredericksburg many times. On this trip, we went to see the holiday lights on Main Street. Those lights were ok. The lights in the Marktplatz along Main Street were super. We arrived at the Marktplatz about 30 minutes before sundown and enjoyed walking through the gardens. An ice rink was setup for ice skaters. There was a small charge for skating. From 6 pm to 6:10 pm, the story of Fredericksburg was told on speakers then 3 Christmas carols. Next, there was a count down 10 to 1 and the Marktplatz was lite with lights. I love the 26-foot tall wooden German Christmas Pyramid that was made in Germany. Main Street has lots of very interesting shops with one of a kind items. So much fun. See more..

Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park image
On one had, it's a pretty normal, straightforward city park with the usual amenities - playgrounds, picnic tables, etc. The hiking trail was the draw for our family, and it did not disappoint. Lost Draw was the first winery on our weekend trip to Fredericksburg and it definitely set the bar for the rest of our trip. We absolutely loved our time here. Great wine...great service...great atmosphere....Left with a bottle of their GSM - would've bought more but this was stop one so we had to restrain ourselves. Also loved how it was off the beaten path and within walking distance of the cottage we stayed at. Time was limited or we would've been back. Definitely recommend adding this to your itinerary and allow yourselves enough time to sit back and have a glass or two. See more..
