OPEN SATURDAY 10am-4pm and SUNDAY 12-4pm (Weather Permitting) Children get free entry and must be supervised by an adult at all times. Montrose was Great Britain’s first operational military airfield, established by the Royal Flying Corps in February 1913. The museum aims to show the human side of the Air Stations past with a collection of contemporary photographs, artefacts and memorabilia. These not only tell of the history of the airfield but also the story of those who served here and those who lived in the area. It is an independent accredited museum run entirely by volunteers. Aircraft include a Panavia Tornado GR4, a Hawker Hunter F1, a Gloster Meteor and a de Havilland Sea Vampire. There is also a full-size replica Supermarine Spitfire MkVb and our volunteers have built amazing full-size replicas of a WWI B.E.2a and a Sopwith Camel, the only ones in Scotland. See more..

    - Great Find!
Monday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Nature & Wildlife Areas
St Cyrus National Nature Reserve image
Stayed overnight, Saturday 2nd July, in a 7m motorhome. Great nature walks, very helpful staff, great facilities, WC open all night, chemical dump facility, but needs a dedicated rinsing tap and a separate fresh water tap away from the dump station. £10 voluntary contribution into honesty box. Quiet night, all good things! However, parking for motorhomes not very practical as bays are on a 15 deg slope, and likely to impede working of fridge plus falling out of bed! Staff came to the rescue and sorted out a flat space. There is an overflow carpark with a height barrier little used. Perhaps the motorhome bays could be relocated there if the barrier was removed, and a fixed charge applied. See more..

    Tayside Police Museum Kirriemuir image
Just a short update to let you know that Tayside Police Museum will close for the 2022 season on Saturday 1st October. It has been a fantastic year, particularly after 2 years of enforced closure due to the pandemic. I would like to thank the many hundreds of visitors we welcomed, and I am especially grateful to the volunteers, without home we simply could not manage to open to the public. During 2022 the museum was formally designated by Angus Council as one of the 'hidden gems' of the county and was included in the Storytellers of Angus promotion. Our Tripadvisor rating in particular is worthy of note, one of the highest ratings for any activity in the Tayside area. The museum will open again next March, but during this 'closed' period, we will be happy to facilitate group visits whenever we can. Any group interested in doing so can request a visit using a contact form on our website. See more..
