    Parks
    Camperdown Country Park image
Camperdown Park is the largest public park in Dundee covering an area of more than 400 acres. It’s name originates from the victorious 1797 battle of Camperdown, which was won by the British under Dundonian Admiral Adam Duncan , who was rewarded handsomely for his leadership. His son and heir used the money to build splendid neoclassical Camperdown House in 1828, which is owned by the council, and although closed to the public seems to be undergoing renovation at present. The park has numerous scenic trails to follow, sporting a fabulous collection of over 190 varieties of trees. There’s a popular children’s play park, a duck pond, several parking bays, and of course the Wildlife Centre with it’s cafe. It’s altogether a lovely place to visit and walk in natural surroundings at any time of year - but the colours are especially spectacular in the autumn. See more..

Another blast from the past for me as I can still remember reading Desperate Dan in The Dandy comics. I always imagined Dan as a giant and this statue depicts him like a hulk walking down the street with his dog, Dawg. Funnily, Minnie the Minx is behind him about to fire off her trademark slingshot. I love it. See more..

  14. 4.5 Tay Railway Bridge (166 reviews)
    - Rail connection from Fife to Dundee City
    Bridges
    Tay Railway Bridge image
I've lost count of the number of times that I've been across the Tay Railway Bridge on journeys from Edinburgh to Dundee and points further north. As many people will know this is the second bridge at this location, the original rail bridge having collapsed with great loss of life in 1887. Part of the fhe foundations of the original bridge can still be seen in the water adjacent to the present bridge. The current bridge was build to a much higher standard and has been in use since 1887. I've always noted whenever I've been on a train crossing the river via the bridge that it seems to slow down. This can be beneficial for passengers during daylight hours when the tide is out as it is often possible to see a number of seals hauled out on the sandbanks in the river. My photo shows the entire length of the bridge as seen from a high vantage point in the North of Dundee. This was taken from the top deck of a Discover Dundee coach. See more..

  16. 4.5 Broughty Ferry Beach (157 reviews)
    - A brilliant place for a day out.
    Beaches
    Broughty Ferry Beach image
The locals think of Broughty Ferry beach the Sandy stretch east of the castle. This is a long expanse of clean family friendly beach. It’s topped by safe walking and cycling routes that extend all the way to Monifieth. To the west of the castle is a wonderful riverside cycle/walking route that eventually reaches Dundee City Centre and beyond. Major flood defence works are making the area a little less accessible at present but when done, the walking/cycling route will be even better and safer. There is also a large and very popular children’s play park and water fun park at the castle. Broughty Ferry is full of great little coffee shops, restaurants, pubs and traditional shops so enjoy a great day out. All the locals ask is that you leave it the way you find it. Please don’t litter. See more..

  18. 4.5 OOR Wullie Bronze Statue (136 reviews)
    - Another Scottish cultural icon
    Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent < 1 hour Monuments & Statues
    OOR Wullie Bronze Statue image
Dundee is the home of publishers D C Thomson and as a result a number of their cartoon characters have had statues erected across the city centre in their honour. One of these is Oor Wullie who first appeared in The Sunday Post newspaper, a Scottish literary institution, in the late 1930s. While many people may have seen the numerous Oor Wullie sculptures made from resin which were placed at numerous locations across Scotland a few years ago this is I think the only one made from bronze. Placed alongside the seated figure is a cartoon page engraved into a sheet of bronze. A real piece of fun. See more..

    Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent < 1 hour Monuments & Statues
    Dragon Statue image
Amazing statue of dragon looking threateningly at passersby on High Street. It’s a fine depiction of a dragon showing many exaggerated features such as the claws and snout, as well as the paradoxically modest looking wings. Linked to the local legend of Nine Maidens and the Dragon. Love the story and this sculpture. See more..
