  1. 5.0 Balmore Golf Club (17 reviews)
    - Hidden gem
Monday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Golf Courses
    Balmore Golf Club image
The phrase "hidden gem" is over-used, but it really is appropriate for Balmore, a friendly club tucked away in a rural setting a few miles west of Kirkintilloch. Every hole is different, with prominent features being tiered tees, a menacing stream, uphill/downhill fairways and well-placed bunkers. A photogenic course, my camera did overtime, particularly on the par 3s. Although not over-long, with no par 5s, 6 par 3s and only 3 par 4s over 400 yards from the yellow tees, Balmore is no pushover and was incredibly good value at £11 on an Internet Teeofftimes voucher in March 2015, with seventeen summer greens in play. (The daunting par 3 11th had a temporary green due to major bunker work being done on the right bank of the plateau green.) I managed to play to my handicap (21) with a nett 66, which added to a very pleasant golfing experience. Highly recommended. See more..

  4. 5.0 Bearsden War Memorial (3 reviews)
    - Poignant
    Spent < 1 hour Monuments & Statues
    Bearsden War Memorial image
The Bearsden War Memorial features a sorrowful, but magnificent bronze sculpture surmounting a tabled square column. The sculpture is of a standing angel supporting and holding in her arms, a dying youth. An interesting feature of the pillar is the laurel wreath represented by a bronze band around the upper part. The pillar is about 5 metres high, but the bottom half is filled with plaques for the roll of honour and dedication, which is a sad reminder of the sheer number of soldiers from Bearsden who died. 5. 5.0 Lenzie Moss (2 reviews)
    - Pleasant Walk Around Old Peat Bogs
Spent 1-2 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Lenzie Moss image
Lenzie Moss is a local nature reserve and preserved peat land. The area used to be exploited for peat, and there's even the remains of a building that was used for the local peat industry. There's a circuit trail around the entire reserve that takes you through woodlands and bog land. The circular route is mostly flat through a mixed of paved, gravel and raised wooden tracks. The woodlands portion of the walk is pretty interesting. That part feels so densely covered in tress that it almost feels like you're out in the wilds somewhere. A pleasant nature walk that would take about 40 minutes, . See more..

    - For the Fallen

    Bishopbriggs War Memorial image
This is a war memorial dedicated to the men of Bishopbriggs who died fighting in the two world wars. It’s a standard Celtic style cross and has raised bosses on the arm and stem of the cross. The front has a dedication. The back of the memorial has a beautiful dedication taken from the poem “For the Fallen” by Laurence Binyon. The memorial is located opposite the railway station and is worth a look if in Bishopbriggs. See more..

    Mugdock Country Park image

    - Brilliant week.

    West Highland Way image
This was an eye feast from start to finish. I just loved the grueling week. We got brilliant weather, a drizzle on two days - the rest of the time the weather was great. I have to say I was very sad coming back on the bus from Fort William. I some places a few more marking posts would have been comforting - particularly on the last day but on the whole the experience was excellent. My biggest gripe is that I booked into hotels every 15 or so miles and some of these were a rip off. However, other hotels were excellent. See more..
  15. 4.5 Milngavie Reservoirs (55 reviews)
    - Nice Easy Walk
    Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Milngavie Reservoirs image
The Milngavie Reservoirs is a popular place for Glaswegians looking to get outside of the city for countryside walks. We usually just start the walk at the western side of Mugdock Reservoir where there is a car park. Then follow the footpath round to Craigmaddie Reservoir, around the Water Treatment Works before returning to the car park, which takes about an hour. The paths also take you through attractive woodlands to complement the views across the reservoir and countryside. The area is quite exposed and windy, even on a sunny day. See more..
  16. 4.5 Antonine Wall Bearsden Bath House (28 reviews)
    - Fascinating Glimpse of Roman Life
Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Ancient Ruins
Antonine Wall Bearsden Bath House image
If you’re looking for a tour guide, booklets or a gift shop, boy are you going to be disappointed. It’s all in the open air and, apart from helpful pictures and brief descriptions on site, nothing to pander to creature comforts. (Although there are a number of pubs, cafes and restaurants a short walk away at Bearsden Cross). But part of it’s charm is the lack of concessions. You have complete freedom to wander where you want and dally where you will. It’s not a large site but is packed with the foundations of a number of buildings and is a fascinating insight into the level of sophistication which existed many centuries ago. See more..

Visited here 28th may, just after area on level 2 Four of us shown straight to a table, even though fairly busy. Food excellent, lots of new dishes since our last visit. This chef has real imagination, dishes like Kiatsui curry, tachos Vietnam, and all the old favourites. All very well presented. The young lady who served us, was very polite and pleasant. Thouroughly enjoyed our visit. Will return next week. Well worth a visit for anyone. See more..
