Hidden gem

The phrase "hidden gem" is over-used, but it really is appropriate for Balmore, a friendly club tucked away in a rural setting a few miles west of Kirkintilloch. Every hole is different, with prominent features being tiered tees, a menacing stream, uphill/downhill fairways and well-placed bunkers. A photogenic course, my camera did overtime, particularly on the par 3s. Although not over-long, with no par 5s, 6 par 3s and only 3 par 4s over 400 yards from the yellow tees, Balmore is no pushover and was incredibly good value at £11 on an Internet Teeofftimes voucher in March 2015, with seventeen summer greens in play. (The daunting par 3 11th had a temporary green due to major bunker work being done on the right bank of the plateau green.) I managed to play to my handicap (21) with a nett 66, which added to a very pleasant golfing experience. Highly recommended.

    Great course!
Course is brilliant condition and the clubhouse is neat and tidy. The food we ate was good and the service was better. Considering getting a membership!

    Beautiful & Friendly Course.....
As 'Touring Golfers' this was the 7th different course we've played in as many weeks & we really enjoyed it. There are 6 Par 3's on this course but that doesn't make it easy ... you have to think your way round this course, selecting the right shot & where you want to play it to are the key to scoring well here. There are a nice variety of golf holes here & they are tough enough to test any level golfer whilst still being enjoyable for high handicappers. Members & staff are friendly & we'll definitely revisit this course & would have no hesitation in recommending to others.
