  1. 4.0 Fisherman’s Village (7.993 reviews)
    - Touristic area
Spent More than 3 hours Neighborhoods
    Fisherman’s Village image
Historically a thriving fishing community, Fisherman’s Village in Bophut is now a popular walking street, with rustic shophouses converted into eateries, shops, beach bars, and hotels. Restaurants here specialize in seafood, with both local and international offerings on the menu. Things kick up a notch during the weekly night market which features stalls serving cocktails, sweets, and street food from around the world. Get yourself a classic Thai stirfry and homemade coconut ice cream for dessert. Be sure to browse the handicrafts and trinkets—soft beach kaftans and bowls carved from coconuts make great souvenirs. – Tripadvisor See more..

Big Buddha Temple (Wat Phra Yai) image
This temple complex is really amazing. The climb to the giant Buddha is amazing with large dragons on each side of the stairs. During midday it can be rather hot, especially when climbing the long stairs. A monk is selling 'holy' water to bring health and happiness ☺ See more..
  3. 4.0 Chaweng Beach (4.215 reviews)
    - Lively and fun
    Spent < 1 hour Beaches
    Chaweng Beach image
If you’re in Ko Samui you definitely need to visit Chaweng Beach. It’s very lively especially at Ark Bar and Elephant Bar which I would recommend. In the day it’s a chilled atmosphere and there are lots of restaurants to choose from. In the evening it comes more to life and there are fire shows most nights and music in lots of the bars. There are lots of lucky lucky men around at night trying to sell you things which can get slightly annoying after a few times of saying no. There are also men with lizards walking around and they just put the lizard on you, wanting you to take a picture and they then ask for money. This was very annoying however we noticed it on lots of the beaches we went to in Thailand. I personally don’t think this should be allowed - the lizards are flung around like toys and placed on peoples heads and bodies. See more..

    Koh Nang Yuan image
The hotel booked us a long tail boat from the beach to the island and the weather was glorious the day we visited (either side of the visit we had torrential rain, thunder and lightening). It was worth the travel to get to this little piece of paradise. You have to pay for beds/umbrellas on the sand but it’s a small cost to pay for the people who look after this pristine strip of sand, crystal clear water - definitely glad we took snorkels. It was a fab day out which we wouldn’t have missed. See more..
  6. 4.0 Lamai Beach (2.015 reviews)
    - First time on Lamia beach and very happy with the fantastic views and soft sand
Spent More than 3 hours Beaches
    Lamai Beach image
The beach has very soft beautiful sand with lovely trees as a backdrop for excellent pictures and shade. There are plenty off bars and restaurants to use with free sun-beds as long as you have drinks etc. There was a little litter where the rough sea had washed it up but the local restaurant cleans it up as fast as they can so the beach is soon perfect. I would recommend to all. Oh and you can have massages for very reasonable prices as you chill . What’s not to like.... See more..
  7. 4.5 Wat Plai Laem (1.526 reviews)
    - Very nice temple
    Religious Sites
    Wat Plai Laem image
Wat Plai Laem is the most spectacular temple on Ko Samui. It is ar. 10min driving time far away from Bophut. Take a Songtaew, it’s much cheaper (50Bath from Fisherman‘s Village). There are 3 different plateaus located in a lake with a Buddha, a goddiva and an hall. You can take lovely pictures and you can enjoy the scenario. With good weather conditions all figures are reflecting in the water. There are some shops for souvenirs and drinks. If you are interested in culture this is a must do. See more..
  8. 4.5 Maenam Beach (1.427 reviews)
    - A beautiful sandy beach that is not too busy and there is great food!

    Maenam Beach image
This is so much better than Chaweng beach. It is much quieter, it is very clean (it was when we were here but I did read a review from someone else who experienced it differently) and the sea has, in my opinion, a gentle slope so you have to go 30 yards before it is up to your waistline. We were at the Seaview restaurant. It was excellent food and good Vue for money. The staff are amazing. We got to use their sun loungers on the beach after lunch but we also bought drinks all afternoon as to not abuse the hospitality too much. See more..
  9. 4.5 Khao Sok National Park (1.376 reviews)
    - Best best best
    National Parks
    Khao Sok National Park image
This is one of Thailand's most popular parks for foreign visitors but at the same time is unspoiled and uncrowded. The national park is home to a number of eco-resorts offering room, food, and tours. The park is includes a large rainforest and exception steep limestone mountains. There are also rivers and waterfalls. Tours include jungle treks, elephant experience, kayaking and tubing on the river. The most popular tour in the area is to the Rajaprapa reservoir, also known as Khao Sok Lake. Here guests can sleep on rafthouses at the edge of the jungle and enjoy kayaking, birdwatching, and hiking in pristine forest. Day trips are also available. In addition to observing numerous tropical birds including majestic hornbills, Asian buffalo and elephants are often seen, and tapirs and other jungle animals more rarely. The area can be reached easily from airports in Phuket (2 hours away) and Surathani airport (1.5 hours away). See more..

    Chaweng Noi Beach image
So far my favorate place in Thailand (as a whole Island)........sand,sea and sun. This town is busy almost 24 hours a day super resturants, good nightlife (the sex industry is here but not as prolific as some areas). Great shopping, great beach (but the one at Lamai is better) so much to do. Here is a few things i tried............ Rent a car (about £20 per day) or a bike (about £3 per day) go on a boat trip to Ang Thong national park, shoot a wide range of weapons, Namuang waterfalls, Big Buddha, Grandmother and Grandfather rocks, plenty of quiet beaches, Thai boxing maches, Nathon, Lamai town, Crocodile farm, Monkey theatre and don't miss the Lady boy shows especially Christie's (free entry). For other places of interest see my reviews on Lamai Beach See more..
  11. 4.5 Bottle Beach (1.137 reviews)
    - Good Day Trip Location!
    Beaches
    Bottle Beach image
We took a boat to Bottle Beach from Chaloklum Beach round trip for about 375 baht. The beach wasn't very crowded when we arrived. We took the hike up to the view point. Be sure to prepare yourself for the hike, the path is paved but it is still ropy and slippery. Don't forget water/snacks. The hike is worth it. The beach itself is clean peaceful. We order a few drinks out of the cafe, about 60 baht for a pineapple shake. The water was a bit rough for snorkeling this day but we were able to swim. There is a beach volleyball court, ask the cafe for a ball. See more..

  17. 4.0 Haad Rin (844 reviews)
    - Beautif beach and nice soft sand
    Beaches
    Haad Rin image
Beautiful beach and very soft sand to go barefoot on. Apart from Zen Beach, this is one of my other favorite beaches to be on. Especially when it’s not full moon party time. Though the full moon party can be fun once in a while too. it’s very family friendly by the way if you are curious about it and want to see it. The fire shows are great but now it’s getting crowded again post-covid. Check out Sand & Tan next to Tommy’s Resort if you do go (review on that later) See more..
  18. 4.0 Central Festival Samui (817 reviews)
    - A more modern side to Koh Samui
    Shopping Malls
    Central Festival Samui image
Visited this shopping centre today in Chaweng and was pleasantly surprised. It’s only two levels but there are a number of brand name and local shops as well as eateries there and it provides a welcome respite from the heat and humidity. The food court provides cheap food and there is a large supermarket selling a range of local and imported foods. I was impressed by the cleanliness of the toilets. Outside is a market with a number of stalls selling souvenirs and food/drinks and there are also shops across the road. There are also some cute ornamental monkeys around the place. See more..
  19. 4.0 Secret Buddha Garden (747 reviews)

    Secret Buddha Garden image
It is not an easy ride to approach the place but truly worth it. This is the rainy season so the whole place looks like that a former city would sink under a huge amount of water. Of course be careful as moss is everywhere so the rocks are really slippery and use a good mosquito spray before entering ;) See more..
  20. 4.0 Wat Khunaram (Mummified Monk) (741 reviews)
    - "Buddha Cemetery" more attractive to me than the monk
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Religious Sites
    Wat Khunaram (Mummified Monk) image
While on Koh Samui, we took a 1/2 day tour to see the highlight. This wat was included because it contains a mummified monk, sitting in his prayerful position in which he was found when he passed. This was not pleasant for me to look at, but is apparently quite the attraction. However, to the right of the temple there is an interesting display. The side of the property contains a large collection of Buddhas and other small statues in various stages of disrepair. Our guide told us that if people who have Buddhas at home break or damage them, the statues can be brought to this temple. It appears to be almost a cemetery for statues. I had not seen this before, even after spending over a year in Thailand, so I found it interesting. For this reason, I would recommend Wat Khunaram. See more..
  21. 4.0 Paradise Park Farm (670 reviews)
    - Great views, although Dated Park.

    Paradise Park Farm image
We enjoyed our trip, Although it did seem stuck in a dated time warp . So many toddler seats and rusty ride on toys. I didn't like seeing parrots with chains on. Perhaps it was for customer safety. Certainly didn't enjoy seeing white pigeons dyed fancy colours with tail feathers sticking up. Though the birds looked happy enough. It had an infinity pool that we used too. That was enjoyable. Lots of fantastic view points too. See more..

The place is really good and vibrant. We went there when some beach side Thai music culture concert was going on. So we could enjoy the real local people’s weekend lifestyle. Such nice food bazaar with wonderful music Have your beer and street food and chill. You can walk down to the street for usual shops and fast foods too. Overall Lamai beach area is more quieter than other markets. Quieter means not too loud. Brisk walk and soothing experience, you will find all wonderful options in nigh bazaar. See more..

Cheow Lan Dam (Ratchaprapa Dam) image
On our recent trip to Khao Sok National Park, we decided to go to the very scenic Cheow Lan Lake but made the mistake to include an overnight stay. It would be good if the type of accomodation available would be in keeping with the serene environment. Ours was not and it spoiled the destination which is otherwise beautiful. We did a sunset and a sunrise cruise which were very pleasant and scenic. The rock formations add so much drama to the landscape! See more..

Walk past the resort right to the end of the beach for peace and quiet. Around the resort it’s obviously full of that ilk of people so if your a traveller, walk past them and enjoy the beach further down where there is a chilled bar. If you fancy the nudist beach you can walk through the rocks to a private beach. The snorkelling is not great here but it’s positioned greatly for the morning sun unlike some other beaches. Great swim if you don’t like deep waters like me. Well worth a visit and some great shots available See more..

    Lamai Viewpoint image
This is a serious attraction on Samui and people travel from far and wide to experience this thrilling ride over the spectacular jungle canopy below. It’s scary but totally safe. Everything looks so small down below from the high mountain retreat and you can see Lamai and its beautiful coastline in the distance. From the wooden terrace you can sit on comfortable chairs and relax over a coffee or drink to watch the colors of the sky and sea transform into warm lilacs and reds as the sun sets. It’s a wonderful time of day to be up here and totally unforgettable. See more..
  33. 4.5 Koh Tan (338 reviews)
    - Koh Tan, a small island close to Koh Samui
    Islands
    Koh Tan image
You reach this small island by a longtail boat from Koh Samui. Go to Thongkrut (The TongKrut Pier Restaurant) and ask for a longtail boat to Koh Tan. They will bring you there and pick you up after your wish for a very small payment! At Koh Tan there are 2 restaurants and you can enjoy good Thai food (fresh fish and alike). The island is mainly rocks but there is a beach where you can walk along the sea. There are only artound 30 people living on Koh Tan and it is unspoiled from mass tourist still! On the island is wild buffalos and wild boars. The people there are very open and friendly. A monk is living in a small Wat which you can visit if you take the walk along the beach. Also travel agencies surely can make a trip for you to Koh Tan, but at a different price than by just going to the pier in Tongkrut. See more..
  34. 4.0 Hin Lad Waterfall (337 reviews)
    - Very long walk, totally worth it.
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Waterfalls
    Hin Lad Waterfall image
This is a very very long walk through the jungle, but the waterfall at the end is so quiet and huge and great to swim. On the walk, almost everyone gives up and turns back. Or they get to one of the many little waterfalls thinking they've made it and then head back. Use google maps to see when you're there. It takes a while. But when you get there, there is basically no-one there, it's huge and there is an incredible place to swim. I'ts so picturesque. The food in the cafe at the start is very cheap and quite nice. The parking is free and plentiful for mopeds. Worth the visit if you don't mind the walk. See more..

    - Still popular despite Covid
    Flea & Street Markets
    Night market image
Maybe this market isn't quite as busy as before the pandemic but it's still popular with locals and the variety of mainly food stalls remains the same. There's ample parking (10baht) in the temple grounds adjacent to the market and there are now a few food stalls actually in the carpark. One thing to be aware of if you are more than the average height for a Thai person, are the roofs of some of the stall are quite low so be careful of the steel roof supports! As mentioned earlier, there's a good range of food available with some of the stalls providing seats and tables if you don't want take away food. There is also a very good bakery stall (Smile Bakery) offering a wide variety of produce. For under a 100 baht, two people can eat quite well! Certainly worth a visit. See more..

    Mango Bay image
What a beautiful bay. We went exploring and decided to visit Mango Bay. My boyfriend and I rented a motorbike. It was definitely a trek, some steep areas that weren't paved. I hopped off a few times and walked. We parked our bike not far from where you start to walk down. We met up with a few other travellers and they decided the 200 baht per person wasn't worth it. They missed out! Not only does that money get used as a credit (we would have had lunch and bought water anyway) but it helps the beautiful resort ... and for what? $6 bucks? If you flew across the world and got as far as that stair climb, and didn't want to spend a surprise fee of 200 baht? Ha! The bay was beautiful, the snorkeling fun, and the pad thai was delicious! But be careful if you're not an experienced scooter driver and make sure you have good tred on the tires! See more..

We climbed up the many steps and looked around the pagoda with amazing views. It was very interesting to look inside the room beneath the pagoda and see the many artefacts. It’s well worth Bht 20 per person. When we had finished our tour the monk near the pay desk made us a cup of coffee, gave us some snacks and watermelon slices. He didn’t do this for anyone else. There was no expectation of payment but of course we put money in the donation box. The kindness of Thai people is something we cherish and take home with us. See more..

Surat Thani City Pillar Shrine image
The City Shrine in Surat is one of the most beautiful I've seen in Thailand. When you visit, please take time to go through the ceremony outside and inside the Shrine to show your respect to the Spirit of Surat Thani which the local people believe lives within. You can buy the flowers, candle and incense for the outside ceremony and the colorful pieces of cloth for the inside ceremony just inside the park surrounding the Shrine. You give a donations and put it in the box. Outside: you kneel down and offer the flowers to the Spirit before lighting the candle and incense and placing them in specially designed holders. Inside: you tie one of the colorful clothes on each of the four pillars, place the gold leaf on the pillars too before striking each of the drums three times. When in doubt as to what to do, either watch what the Thai do or ask someone what to do. The local Thai are very hospitable and would welcome the opportunity to help you! See more..

At the beginning of the road on the way to the viewpoint you will find a kind of ‘fake’ mango viewpoint. The old lady sits at the entrance & its 20baht entry. I think she/her family have built this place for income as its a brilliant bit of Thai construction ha! Handmade hammocks & a bamboo platform held up by a tree trunk!! Its soo cool but honestly there is nothing fake about the view/setting Honestly it is just STUNNING!! I didnt see the point in going further up the road to pay 100bht for the ‘real’ tourist one ! Apparently the sunset is just beautiful here too’ See more..
