This temple complex is really amazing. The climb to the giant Buddha is amazing with large dragons on each side of the stairs. During midday it can be rather hot, especially when climbing the long stairs. A monk is selling 'holy' water to bring health and happiness ☺See more..
4.5Wat Plai Laem(1.526 reviews) - Very nice temple Religious Sites
Wat Plai Laem is the most spectacular temple on Ko Samui. It is ar. 10min driving time far away from Bophut. Take a Songtaew, it’s much cheaper (50Bath from Fisherman‘s Village). There are 3 different plateaus located in a lake with a Buddha, a goddiva and an hall. You can take lovely pictures and you can enjoy the scenario. With good weather conditions all figures are reflecting in the water. There are some shops for souvenirs and drinks. If you are interested in culture this is a must do.See more..
It is not an easy ride to approach the place but truly worth it. This is the rainy season so the whole place looks like that a former city would sink under a huge amount of water. Of course be careful as moss is everywhere so the rocks are really slippery and use a good mosquito spray before entering ;)See more..
4.0Wat Khunaram (Mummified Monk)(741 reviews) - "Buddha Cemetery" more attractive to me than the monk Points of Interest & Landmarks • Religious Sites
While on Koh Samui, we took a 1/2 day tour to see the highlight. This wat was included because it contains a mummified monk, sitting in his prayerful position in which he was found when he passed. This was not pleasant for me to look at, but is apparently quite the attraction. However, to the right of the temple there is an interesting display. The side of the property contains a large collection of Buddhas and other small statues in various stages of disrepair. Our guide told us that if people who have Buddhas at home break or damage them, the statues can be brought to this temple. It appears to be almost a cemetery for statues. I had not seen this before, even after spending over a year in Thailand, so I found it interesting. For this reason, I would recommend Wat Khunaram.See more..
The City Shrine in Surat is one of the most beautiful I've seen in Thailand. When you visit, please take time to go through the ceremony outside and inside the Shrine to show your respect to the Spirit of Surat Thani which the local people believe lives within. You can buy the flowers, candle and incense for the outside ceremony and the colorful pieces of cloth for the inside ceremony just inside the park surrounding the Shrine. You give a donations and put it in the box. Outside: you kneel down and offer the flowers to the Spirit before lighting the candle and incense and placing them in specially designed holders. Inside: you tie one of the colorful clothes on each of the four pillars, place the gold leaf on the pillars too before striking each of the drums three times. When in doubt as to what to do, either watch what the Thai do or ask someone what to do. The local Thai are very hospitable and would welcome the opportunity to help you!See more..
Although relatively small, this is one of the most beautiful temples in Suratthani province. There is a very large car park nearby which is free and a number of food and drink stalls can be found along the periphery. The interior, like so many Buddhist temples is breathtakingly beautiful. Lines of golden buddhas surround the main stupa. Many of these are very old but well preserved. Look at them carefully! We’ve visited many Buddhist temples - some more decorative and many much larger but there’s something about this particular temple that exudes calmness and peacefulness. If your in the Chaiya area, make this temple a must visit. Highly recommended.See more..

5.0Thamma Park (Ban Khao Na Nai)(8 reviews) - Thamma Park, Khao Na Nai aæ beautiful place. Spent 2-3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Religious Sites
Khao na Nai is a wonderful temple area. The monk who had this dream to build this to honour Rama IX had a great dream. Five small temples are completed and they are working with the sixth. Three is left but I'm sure that the hole project will be finished. Great dreams make great persons, so we are pleased that this monk is in our family. This place is worth a visit, so take a time to do it. It's only about two hours from Ao Nang. See more..
5.0Wat Phothawas(4 reviews) - One of the oldest temples in Surat Thani Spent < 1 hour Religious Sites
Wat Phothawas is one of the oldest temples in Surat Thani, built in the reign of King Rama I 2330 B.E. (A.D. 1787) .The ancient architecture in the temple which is remaining at the present time are 2 beautiful pagodas behind the Buddhist sanctuary. This temple is located on Wat Pho – Nai Luk Road which far from Wat Phothawas intersection about 500 meters. There is a canal behind the temple. The reasons why there are a lot of people visit the temple are; 1) to pay the respect to the image of venerable monk “Luang Phor Klom”.who was the past abbot of this temple and very famous for practicing the dharma in the south of Thailand. 2) Offering dedicated to Buddhist monks 3) Admire the long racing boat.See more..
4.5Wat Teskedhammanawa (Tha Sai)(2 reviews) - Small but perfect Wat made fom teak wood in pristine deserted beach setting Spent < 1 hour Religious Sites
Perfect stop off place on way to or from seeing the turtles in Thai Mueang. I am advised the beach is part of the national park, therefore there are no bars, cafes or other developments, but permission was given and a Wat was built last year (?), right on the edge of the beach. The carvings of the shutters are beatiful and inside is just teak floor and marble Bhudda. The peace and tranquility of the Wat with the sounds of the waves in the background is entrancing. I suggest a visit if you are passing - before it gets discoveredSee more..
5.0Wat Tham Wararam(1 review) - Пещерный храм. Religious Sites • Scenic Walking Areas
See more..
5.0Wat Donsak(1 review) - Amazing! Spent 1-2 hours Religious Sites
What an amazing sight! A gigantic statue of Luang Phor Thuad-a famous Buddhist monk much revered by Thai Buddhists. The construction took several years and the surrounding area is still not finished. It really does take your breath away when you first see the statue. It’s impossible not to wonder at how it was constructed. Alongside is another, smaller statue representing, I believe, Chinese Buddhism. There are large areas of water and fish food can be bought to feed the always hungry fish! There is a cafe and several other food stalls on the site. Parking is no problem and toilets are situated by the large car park. The actual temple is quite small but beautifully decorated like so many Buddhist temples. The temple and its grounds are signposted from the main road leading to Donsak and the ferry terminals. Just follow the side road and it’s impossible to miss seeing the statue. Allow probably about an hour and longer if you buy food and a drink. Highly recommended.See more..
