  2. 4.0 Wat Khunaram (Mummified Monk) (741 reviews)
    - "Buddha Cemetery" more attractive to me than the monk
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Religious Sites
    Wat Khunaram (Mummified Monk) image
While on Koh Samui, we took a 1/2 day tour to see the highlight. This wat was included because it contains a mummified monk, sitting in his prayerful position in which he was found when he passed. This was not pleasant for me to look at, but is apparently quite the attraction. However, to the right of the temple there is an interesting display. The side of the property contains a large collection of Buddhas and other small statues in various stages of disrepair. Our guide told us that if people who have Buddhas at home break or damage them, the statues can be brought to this temple. It appears to be almost a cemetery for statues. I had not seen this before, even after spending over a year in Thailand, so I found it interesting. For this reason, I would recommend Wat Khunaram. See more..

What a stunning view from here, amazing place to take the pictures you will always treasure. And don’t be shy if you travel alone, someone will always be happy to take your pictures with you in them, and of corse you can return the favour. It’s a. Interesting walk/climb up using the well positioned ropes to help you, not recommended to wear flip flops and be careful even the easy bits are a bit slippery with loose gravel. Truly a great place See more..
  4. 4.0 Hin Lad Waterfall (337 reviews)
    - Very long walk, totally worth it.
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Waterfalls
    Hin Lad Waterfall image
This is a very very long walk through the jungle, but the waterfall at the end is so quiet and huge and great to swim. On the walk, almost everyone gives up and turns back. Or they get to one of the many little waterfalls thinking they've made it and then head back. Use google maps to see when you're there. It takes a while. But when you get there, there is basically no-one there, it's huge and there is an incredible place to swim. I'ts so picturesque. The food in the cafe at the start is very cheap and quite nice. The parking is free and plentiful for mopeds. Worth the visit if you don't mind the walk. See more..

    Pagoda Khao Hua Jook image
We climbed up the many steps and looked around the pagoda with amazing views. It was very interesting to look inside the room beneath the pagoda and see the many artefacts. It’s well worth Bht 20 per person. When we had finished our tour the monk near the pay desk made us a cup of coffee, gave us some snacks and watermelon slices. He didn’t do this for anyone else. There was no expectation of payment but of course we put money in the donation box. The kindness of Thai people is something we cherish and take home with us. See more..

Loved the red clay temple at Wat Sila Ngu. The reliefs on the temple walls showing the life of Buddha are gorgeous and the artistry overall is quite amazing. The temple is also situated by the sea, adding to its serenity. See more..

    - Dive site worth seeing

    Sail Rock (Dive Site) image
Visited Sail Rock as part of an organised diving trip. The site is really great. Lots of wildlife to see and clear water. There were a few other dive boats there, so noting this is the time of covid I suspect it would be really quite busy at other times. See more..

  9. 4.0 Wat Sok Tham Phanthurat Temple (22 reviews)
    - Fun Monkeys
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
Wat Sok Tham Phanthurat Temple image
We really came here for the monekys. The monkeys came out to the left of the cave that you will see there at around 4:30pm. 20 baht per person to enter. At the same ticket counter you can buy food for the monkeys for 20 baht but I guess you can bring your own bananas for cheaper. There are lots of food/clothing vendors around. Not too far from khao sok town, its a manageable walk. Be cautious when feeding the monkeys, they usually fight over the food and are not scared of jumping on your shoulder. See more..
  10. 5.0 Wat Khao Suwan Pradit (16 reviews)
    - Tranquility with a fabulous view
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Wat Khao Suwan Pradit image
We never tire of visiting this temple. It never seems busy and with the car park immediately adjacent to the temple, it’s easy to visit( can still climb up the steps if feeling particularly energetic!). The views from the temple are outstanding -only spoilt in one direction by a series of very large oil storage tanks. In recent years, the temple has built two “piers” which enhance the views out across the sea. Stunning is the only was to describe them. The interior of the temple is quite ornate and worthy of close study. There are some beautiful artifacts and photography is allowed. At the rear of the temple is an interesting collection of bonsai, some of which seem very old. An hour is probably long enough here but it’s possible to linger longer because of the views. Highly recommended. See more..
  11. 5.0 Thamma Park (Ban Khao Na Nai) (8 reviews)
    - Thamma Park, Khao Na Nai aæ beautiful place.

Thamma Park (Ban Khao Na Nai) image
Khao na Nai is a wonderful temple area. The monk who had this dream to build this to honour Rama IX had a great dream. Five small temples are completed and they are working with the sixth. Three is left but I'm sure that the hole project will be finished. Great dreams make great persons, so we are pleased that this monk is in our family. This place is worth a visit, so take a time to do it. It's only about two hours from Ao Nang. See more..
