We traveled from Taidong to Guanshan by train (cca 30 mins), then rented scooters right in front of the train station and rode about an hour to Lisong. I definitely recommend to rent scooter for this trip, otherwise it would be even more difficult to get in. Another option is taking a taxi, but it's too expensive and not as convenient. The hike is uniquely steep and quite difficult. We were accompanied by local dogs, they were super nice, it felt like if they guarded us. When climbing the hill, you need to wear gloves, because somewhere it's needed to use ropes for climbing down. Once you climb down, you will see the river, turn to the right. You have to cross it probably 3 times. Unfortunately, we visited this place after typhoon season, so that the water level was way higher than usually. Which also made us cross the waterfall there. That was kind of hard core, but it's doable, if you are a decent swimmer and you aren't afraid. Once you are at the natural hot springs, it feels amazing to be surrounded just by nature and totally isolated from outer world. Really magical. The way back is really hard as the hill is extremely steep, but it just takes time to climb it. I recommend to go as early as possible, because you don't want to get stuck in the pitch-black woods. Although, it's very badly accessible, it absolutely worth visiting. The bad access probably makes is so special. This was one of the most exciting experiences here in Taiwan and probably in my life, too. See more..

This was a 3-day hike and it was worth everything to accomplish it. The beauty of trails and mother nature....all were beyond words. We took bus to get down to Taitung and back to Taipei by train. My advise? Train was definitely better....We hiked to the cabin on the first day. On the second dya, we woke up at 2 am and started our hike from the cabin to the top, the Jiaming Lake and got back to the cabin within the same day. For the second day, it was a trip of total 18 km ups and downs, including multiple crazy uphills. We used the bicycles provided by our hotel and cycled to Taitung Forest Park. It is beautiful and serene park with good cycling tracks. There are 2 main lakes with ducks. Weather was a bit hot at 28 degree - would have been great on a cooler day. Put on plenty of sunscreen as we got sunburnt after 2-3 hours of cycling. Wonderful place to get a good workout as the park is huge. Did not see food places within the park so bring food/drinks for picnic. See more..

We visited this place on 20 Mar, taking a train from Taitung to Chishang station (NT$97 each, and takes about 30-40mins traveling time). Once you are out of the station, there are plenty of bicycle rental shops along with the way to Mr Brown Ave. We rented a two-seater electric bicycle for NT$500 (unlimited time, but the battery last for about 3 hours of continuous traveling). The ride from the train station to the first attraction, Dapao pond, took about 3mins. Next stop to Mr Brown Ave, about 10-15 mins ride from the pond. This is where you see all the padi field and mountains. Great place to relax and enjoy the fresh air. We arrived at Chishang station around 1140 hours and left for Hualien at 1538 hours. See more..

Took a East Coast Line from Taitung Bus Station. Single trip cost 192NTD from taitung bus station to sanxiantai. So I bought their day trip ticket at 299NTD on the bus from the bus driver. Don't worry if you don't have exact amount, they provide change. It's about 1.5hrs ride. I took the earliest bus at 7.20am at the taitung bus station reached at 9am. They've a bus schedule. So try to time yourself well. Toilet, a cluster of food, souvenir shops are available. Resting area is available too. Windy place, I wouldn't say it's cold. I just wore teeshirt and bermudas when i was there. Beautiful place to be. Easy to navigate. I was done with exploring the area within 2hrs and even had time for a cup of coffee! This is a wonderful place if you come to Taiwan you must to visit. It locate on a southeast island of Taiwan so you need to take a ship. The sunshine is very good and the island visited by very lot of tourist in summer . I very recommend go to Snorkeling or diving. I also recommend you to go to hot spring in early morning and you can look sunrise when you enjoy in hot spring. You can ride a scooter around the island in the night so you can see many deer which is endemic species in Taiwan. If I have time to visit Green island again ,I definitely will go this beautiful place. See more..

The sea on Lanyu is really beautiful, it’s the beauty of the Pacific Ocean. It was actually a typhoon this time, and the boats stopped but we went without hesitation. We want to go to Green Island at first, but all the boats stopped and had to give up. We also stayed one more day because of the suspension As a result, the weather in Lanyu is pretty good, but occasionally it rains slightly~ Compared to Xiaoliuqiu, it is really much bigger. But both of their sea are charming. We still have to advocate again that trash does not fall, not to mention fall into the sea . In addition, because Lanyu is too far away from the island, the prices are a bit more expensive After all, it’s no joke that the boat takes three hours faster I was really dizzy all day when I went there. This museum is pretty good. You can see not only the prehistoric civilizations of eastern Taiwan but the diverse cultures of aboriginal peoples. However, its location is really remote from wherever you are. The only way to get there is taxi; otherwise, you have to rent a scooter, which maybe a little inconvenient for foreign visitors. Visited this place by chance along the Taidong coast and very surprised by the unique art installations there. Beautiful wooden creations that inspire lots of selfies and fun photographs for couples children and young lovers escaping the city. There are lots of places along this coastline to stop and admire the view especially the weathered rocks and splashing ocean beneath. We stopped at this well kept green area where there are toilets and hand washing facilities as well as a performance ground surrounded by art sculptures. That day there was also a biking competition, culinary competition and singing performance to enjoy. Well worth a visit but could do with a few more places for children to shelter from the sun. If you have a car or a private driver and if you want to have ocean view, you should take this journey between Hualien and Taitung. This scenic drive is quite similar to traveling along US Highway-1 in California with long stretch of Pacific Ocean to keep your eyes and camera busy. One downside of this coastal road is the lack of decent place for a meal. It is quite hard to find a reasonable good restaurant with nice food. There is a steam-boat buffet restaurant near the visitor centre at Bashian (Eight Immortal) Cave but it can be quite pricey. See more..

Before arrived the ocean, you need to walk a long way. But when you arrive at the sea you will surprise by the beautiful sunrise, the sunrise up slowly and the sea level is tinted the yellow and orange color with the sun. And the ocean is very clean, you can take off your shoes to feel the cold seawater stream through your toes, it's a great experience. But you need to be careful the stone is slippery. It was cold and windy up in the mountains when we went. Managed some shots. Didn’t get to do too many activities there due to the rain. Everyone comes to Chishang to visit Mr Brown Avenue but what was unexpected was the beautiful Dapo Lake. It is our first stop after setting out from the train station. We were fortunate to be there on a bright sunny day so you get wonderful views of the mountains, lake and fields set against blue skies which is what Chishang is famous for. There were not many people so it was really peaceful for a nice stroll and cycling around the area. It is a must visit place in Chishang. See more..

Go visit the memorial to see the names of thousands of people imprisoned here. Then go into the prison to learn why they were here. It seems like it happened a long time ago. But the reign of white terror only ended in 1987. That was not long ago. Many were innocent. Many were imprisoned because of what they believed. One of the slogans was its better to imprison 100 innocent than to let 2 guilty go. It could have been me. Possibly even you. Coming here was eye opening. Walking through the confinement areas was sobering. Imagining the torture that happened here was bothersome. It's not a pleasant visit. But it's motivating to never let something like this happen again. See more..

This easy (no hill) 20k route takes you through a variety of lovely scenery - through the restored gardens along the coast, the old railway, rice fields and gardens, and finally an elevated path along the levee. Really gorgeous and constantly changing scenery, all with the beautiful mountains as a backdrop. We liked it so much, we did it twice! The only drawback is that the path is occasionally not that well marked, especially on parts where it crosses large roads. If you follow the road marked with the green line, you may end up on a different bike path, which in a worst case, means that you end up cutting the route short. That just means you have to loop back to make sure to see the parts you missed the first time. Also, it's easy to do a small part instead of the full 20k. Most people seem to stay in the part along the beach. It might get hot or mosquitoey during the summer. Preparing some drinks and a snack would be a good idea. See more..

The first day,we went to Takeki Kaneshiro tree.The field is large,but there wasn’t any paddy in August.Then we went to Luyeh Hill.The hot air balloons are cute,but they didn’t fly into the sky. This part of the city used to be bland and boring, the type of place you would just pass through in order to go someplace else. They have turned it into a marvelous place to stroll, listen to live music, get a drink or small snack, and buy local and crafts. It includes a structure that has restaurants and little art shops made from old shipping containers, and it looks amazing. This is a reason to stop in Taitung for at least one evening. This is a really great experience to me.My whole family and I went to Pingtung at first,then we took the train to Taitung Beinan Cultural Site.The site is a really big field,and you can run on it and play the swings there.You can also understand the culture of primitive.The only thing that is missing is that the train is not so frequently.So I strongly recommend everyone to self-survice transportation.
