- 5.0 TC Time Walk (85 reviews)
-Outstanding Experience. Highly Recommend.
Friday: 9:00 AM - 10:00 PM City Tours • Historical & Heritage Tours • Bike Tours • Walking Tours • Food Tours
Excellent tour. We spent two hours leisurely walking around the central area, looking at various historical and meaningful landmarks. Our guide, Eddie, was very well prepared. He had old photos and all the necessary historical tidbits to share with everyone. In fact, before the actual tour, we also had the chance to let the tour guide know if we have any specific interests. So, for example, one person in our group mentioned that she was interested in architecture. Eddie therefore prepared more materials on this aspect. Very informative. Very satisfied. Two hours well spent. See more..

- 4.5 Gaomei Wetland (1.183 reviews)
-Beautiful Sunset with Wind Turbines in the background.
Nature & Wildlife Areas
We took a half day tour with KKDay to visit Gaomei Wetlands. The journey by coach there from the starting point at Miyahara Ice Cream took over an hour. Reached Gaomei Wetlands just before sunset. We spent over one and a half hours there walking on the boardwalk, along the bund and enjoying the sunset. It was very windy and it was a sunny day, so the sunset was very beautiful. You can see the silhouettes of the wind turbines against the beautiful sunset. It was a sight to behold. This is probably the highlight of our visit to Taichung. It was fairly cheap to join a tour, either with KKDay or Klook, better than trying to get there yourself using public bus/taxi. See more..

- 4.5 National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (513 reviews)
-One of Taiwan's top galleries
Friday: 12:00 AM - 6:00 PM Art Museums
Taiwan's creative industries are under appreciated. This is a pity, because Taiwan has a long history of fine art, going back to the Japanese period. The museum has many fine pieces of modern and contemporary art. The gallery provides an outlet for local artists; it has given these artists encouragement to pursue their talents. The Museum is one of Taiwan's top galleries, it's well worth a visit. See more..

- 4.5 921 Earthquake Museum of Taiwan (294 reviews)
-Superb.
Friday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Speciality Museums
At 01:47AM on September 21, 1999, the central part of Taiwan was struck by an earthquake that registered 7.3 on the Richter Scale. The resultant loss of life and damage to property put it among the worst natural disasters of the past century in Taiwan. In the wake of the 921 disaster, the local government decided to preserve some of the phenomena related to the earthquake such as slips in the fault line, collapsed school structures, raised river beds and other selected locations, to serve as reminders for the public of the need to prepare for such disasters and to be ready to provide emergency rescue services. With the rebuilding of Kwangfu Junior High on its present site, the Earthquake Memorial Museum was renamed the 921 Earthquake Museum of Taiwan on February 13, 2001. The new plan retains the original sites as a record of the damage wrought by the earthquake, and it also adds educational facilities designed to inform the public and school children about earthquakes and disaster readiness. - 4.5 Luce Chapel (151 reviews)
-A Lovely Chapel
Points of Interest & Landmarks
This is an earlier work of the renowned Chinese-American architect, the late I. M. Pei, who also designed the Louvre Pyramid of Paris. It is located within the campus of Tunghai University and is about half an hour walk from the car park. It was a nice stroll under the cool November weather. It has a unique structure which resembles the praying hands from both the front and back views. There’s a lawn outside the chapel where people of all ages enjoying their afternoon activities. We reached in the late afternoon and stayed until the chapel was lit up. We hung around a café to wait until dark. This can be a quick visit if time is short. Too bad it was locked. You have to visit during the Sunday opening hour if you want to view the sanctuary. If I have the opportunity to visit again, I’ll plan to attend the Sunday worship. This’s also one of my favourite Taiwan attractions. See more..

- 4.5 Wufeng Lin Family (112 reviews)
-Qing dynasty mansion outside mainland China
Friday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
I have read a few review on this Wufeng Lin family mansion and garden visit and always saw a complaint on no English guide tour, still, I determine to visit and I wasn't disappoint at all. I paid NTD 250 as entrance fee including English pamphlet telling the history of the mansion. If you read Wikipedia about this mansion upfront, there is no need to have other guide tour and a glass of hot red tea to drink and enjoy garden and mansion atmosphere. A must see is the wooden stage and the great flower hall. I'm appreciated this wooden stage more than the royal stage at Beijing summer palace. This site is not crowded, just pleasant to visit. - 4.5 HouFeng Bikeway (83 reviews)
-Houfeng and Dongfeng Bikeways
Biking Trails
I cycled both the Houfeng and Donfeng bikeways as they are interconnected. Round trip it is about 34km, but most of the paved surface is relatively flat, making for easy cycling. The surrounding countryside is beautiful, filled with orchards and small villages. There are plenty of places to stop, rest and buy food/drink. Highlights included the Shigang Dam, the old train tunnel, the several bridges that cross the wide rivers and exploring the winding residential streets just off the bikeway - all very well marked. I rented a Giant 21-speed bike from Lohas Bike, just outside the Houli train station - 200TWD and got a coupon for 100TWD off my next rental. Super nice owner who speaks decent English. See more..
- 4.5 Asia University Museum of Modern Art (80 reviews)
-One of the top notch modern art museums in Taiwan.
Friday: 9:30 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Art Museums
The founders of Asia University, Mr. Tsai Chang-Hai and Mr. Lin Tseng Lien, officially put his plan into action when he invited Mr. Tadao Ando on the 4th May, 2007. He wanted there to be a museum accessible on campus, thus invited Pritzer Prize Winner Mr. Tadao Ando to do the designing. Aware of the general scarcity of resources on school grounds across Taiwan, it's evident that students have a lack of contact with art and the different aspects and characteristics art brings to a certain place. Mr. Tsai wanted to use the environment to influence and inspire the students of Asia University. Thus, having a world class museum within the University grounds, would enable both students and people of Taiwan to experience the presentation of internationally renowned artists in an endorsed environment. During a press conference in early 2008, Mr. Ando presented his concept for the triangular design. His aim was to achieve a balance between the environment, architecture and people. He also attended an on-campus seminar with the teachers and students of Asia University and led them to inspect the base. On Dec. 22, 2008, the museum was selected among the "2008 Top Ten Visual Art News Topics in Taiwan". The groundbreaking ceremony took place on Jan. 24, 2011 and the museum was inaugurated on Oct. 24, 2013. In Sep. 2013, the museum was officially named Asia University's Museum of Modern Art. The main structure of Asia University's Museum of Modern Art has been constructed from bare concrete structural components, faced with curtain walls. The interior covers an area of 4,111 square meters and the surrounding grounds measure up to 19,840 square meters. Designed by the Japanese architect, Tadao Ando, the equilateral triangle has been adopted as the basic constructional element and skillfully incorporated in a repeated motif to form three stories of the triangular building. An atrium space is created with a crisscrossing arrangement of concrete beams and the outdoor terraces con... See more..

- 4.0 Rainbow Village Taichung (1.282 reviews)
-Quirky & Cool
Neighborhoods • Points of Interest & Landmarks
Was not sure what to expect but pleasantly surprised by the small collection of colorful buildings. Backstory was intriguing and led to our curiosity. Glad we visited as the contrast of Rainbow Village and its neighbors is dramatic. If you pause and imagine the changes this country and city have undergone, Rainbow Village reflects part of those changes. Buildings have funky designs, forms and colors. Then also had cutouts based on the forms you could place your face through and take pictures. People in the area were very nice. Not too large of an area but interesting nonetheless. See more..
- 4.0 Taichung Station (762 reviews)
-Elegant and functional and brand new!
Rail Services • Public Transportation Systems
When I arrived here the first time almost 20 years ago, the train station was a gorgeous, old, Japanese grandmother. Today it is an elegant, young, Taiwanese beauty, connecting trains and busses, and allowing access to businesses, hotels, and shops south and north of the station. Check out the neighborhood and find hundreds of shops and stalls nearby, that offer everything and anything! See more..
- 4.0 Lavender Cottage (254 reviews)
-Singaporean's Review of Lavender Cottage
Parks
My family and I really love this place and go there every time we visit Taiwan. It's a beautiful place to take pictures and buy/try lavender-flavoured products. The ticket value can be used to offset your purchases. The staff who work there are also very friendly and helpful! But one should note that the souvenirs there are a little pricey. Do also take note that the place is very inaccessible and one would need to book a taxi or drive to this area (don't recommend the latter unless you have experience driving in Taiwan, the terrain is quite rough). This picturesque park is a landmark of Taichung City, which is one of the island's main urban areas,. It's located on the central west coast of Taiwan. Taichung Park is not very extensive, but it has some historic monuments and it's a good place for a stroll, away from Taichung's incessant traffic. The park is nicely looked after. See more..
- 4.0 Sea of Flowers in Shinshe (177 reviews)
-Worth a visit if you happen to visit during Nov/Dec
Science Museums
We were fortunate that the Exhibition was open when we went to Taiwan last month and we are glad we made a trip there. As mentioned, avoid going there on Sat/Sun as it is JAMPACKED!. we wanted to go when we reach Taichung on Sunday but luckily our driver talked us out of it. He brought us there the next day (mon) and it was not so crowded. The 1st thing to mention is that the place is HUGE and it is FREE!!! HAHA... Nice outdoor area with many "flower sea" - beds of flowers in huge rows. Besides flowers there are also many exhibits and food stalls as there is a market like area to eat and rest. MUST EAT : There is a stall selling Ice-Cream in a flower-pot.. it looks like a plant and inside there are jelly shaped like worms.. HAHA.. very nice and cheap.. We spent around 3 hours there, taking photos and enjoying ourselves. If possible, factor this place in as it is only open during Nov/Dec every year! See more..

Located in a small lane a quiet residential neighbourhood, it could be quite difficult to locate. Relatively small stretch of walls with the murals of old classic animation cartoons. Best time to visit is early in the morning before there is any disruptive sunshine, or late afternoon, for a perfect picture without shadows.
