  3. 4.5 Naejangsan National Park (89 reviews)
    - Beautiful changing of colors
Spent More than 3 hours National Parks
    Naejangsan National Park image
The perfect time to go is beginning of Nov. From Seoul, I took the KTX from Yongsan station to Jeong-Eup station, took about 1.5 hours. From Jeong-Eup train station, cross the road at the traffic light, by the CU store there is a 171 bus (see the enclosed map) which goes direct to Naejang san as the final stop (takes about 30 mins). There's no decent hotel in Jeong-Eup, they are all motel. I didn't stay at Jeong-Eup and decided to stay at one of the motels in Naejang san instead, its right next to the national park which is very convenient if you want to beat the crowd in the morning. I stay at the following motel, which is good, Mr. Wontak Kim speaks good English and very responsive via e-mail, have a look at maple-village dotcom for more info. The motel is right behind the Naejang san bus stop, its 20 mins walk to the national park entrance 제일장(第一莊): MAPLE-VILLAGE Tel: 82-63-538-9639 Mobil: 82-10-5283-6803 Following are some useful translation between English - Chinese - Korean for the area, Jeongeup - 井邑 - 정읍 Jeongeup station - 井邑站 - 정읍역 Yongsan station - 龍山站 - 용산역 Baek Yang temple - 白羊寺 - 백양사 Baek Yang temple station - 白羊寺站 - 백양사역 See more..
  4. 4.5 Maisan Mountain (60 reviews)
    - Nice trek and easy day trip from Jeonju
    Mountains
    Maisan Mountain image
Made this day trip on October 2017 on a nice Sunday from Jeonju. It took me some time to find out the logistics, but once I knew, it worked out well. Best option is to take the direct bus from Jeonju to the South Gate (leaving at 09.45, and 12.05 - and later at 15.25 and 18.05 although the last two are too late for a hike, of course) from the main road opposite the train station. It is a minibus (reddish/orange) and it takes you on a nice ride through the countryside and delivers you right at the South Gate. There are only 2 returns from the South Gate (at 11.00 and 17.00) so it makes sense to start at the South Gate, hike to the North Gate, from where you can return via Jinan. This will give you more flexibility on your time use. Jinan is quite close to the North Gate, around 15-20 minutes walk, but there is an hourly bus service taking you directly from the North Gate to the Jinan bus terminal. The bus stop at the North Gate was not indicated but it is right in front of the Tourist Information Office. From the Jinan bus terminal there are very frequent buses back to Jeonju. Ask the tourist office in Jeonju for an update on the time tables. Hope this info helps. See more..
  5. 4.5 Gwanghallu Pavilion (54 reviews)
    - One of the most picturesque sights in Korea
    Historic Walking Areas
    Gwanghallu Pavilion image
Gwanghallu Garden is one of the most picturesque spots in Korea. Because it has been a filming location for so many tecent historical drama films (Masquerade, The Face Reader, The Throne, The Princess and the Matchmaker, and the Royal Tailor to name a few) quite easy to imagine the Joseon era noblemen taking a break in one of its pavilions or being entertained. The main pavilion Geanghallu cannot be entered but it can be admired with its photogenic surroundings that includes the stone bridge. Few smaller pavilions like Yeongjugak are open for visitors to relax in. Wonwoljeong Pavilion is used as a performance space where a short pansori performance takes place a few times a day. 6. 4.5 Seonunsa Temple (51 reviews)
    - A wonderful place to visit
    Religious Sites
    Seonunsa Temple image
Seonunsa Temple and the park it is situated in, Seonunsan mountain, is rally worth going. The temple offers a calm spiritual atmosphere. Go there in the morning when less visitors are around and the monks sind their morning prayers. Some of the buildings are quite old. We were there in late April. Unfortunately, most of the camellia forest behind the temple had already dropped their flowers. The park offers plenty rewarding hiking trails of different length. On the way you will see caves and old trees, and, most important of all, a huge Buddha carved into a rock. Climbing up the many stairs to the mountain tops is worth the effort, the views are breath-taking. A small map can be found on the english.visitkorea.or.kr webpage. The tourist village at the park entrance has a youth hostel offering Korean-style rooms as well as a guest house. See more..
  7. 4.5 Naesosa Temple (42 reviews)
    - Naesosa Temple Stay
    Religious Sites
    Naesosa Temple image
Did a free-style temple stay and it was a very enriching experience. The Templestay coordinator (who speaks English) was helpful and thoughtful. The surrounding area is very good for walking/trekking. The landscape is pretty and the air is refreshing. The temple food is tasty. Indeed a rewarding trip. We travelled from Seoul To Jeongup by KTX, and then by bus to Naesosa. See more..
  8. 4.5 Hanji Museum (31 reviews)
    - ALL about PAPER! -- A MUST-VISIT in Jeonju
    Speciality Museums
    Hanji Museum image
Free, well-curated, family-friendly museum about paper--its history, varieties, process, and products. It's a small museum (I'd give 1 hour to 1 hour and half), but very informative museum that offers all you need to know about paper. I really enjoyed paper history presentation there from pre-historic period until today. The comparison among different kinds of paper in China, Japan, and Korea, as well as among varieties of paper produced in Korea was very interesting. The hands-on experience at the end, where you end up with your own sheet of paper, was magical! As many people mentioned earlier, its gift shop offers a wide variety of quality products priced reasonably. I also end up doing most of my gift-shopping here, without sacrificing my wallet too much. Highly recommended! See more..
  9. 4.5 Tapsa Temple (26 reviews)
    - Definitely worth visiting
    Religious Sites
    Tapsa Temple image
We went there late afternoon of a tiring day, hiking to top with small kids was a bit difficult. But what we saw there is definitely worth it. An amazing story behind those stones. One man built everything and those pagodas in 30 years single handed.. There were playing poet like musical voice in the temple, i wish to find what it is, it is still in my ears.. See more..
  10. 4.5 Byeonsanbando National Park (26 reviews)
    - Byeonsanbando National Park in Buan
    Spent 2-3 hours National Parks
    Byeonsanbando National Park image
Byeonsanbando (bando means a penisular) National Park is the only peninsula based park in Korea with a mix of mountains and sea. Byeonsan Penisular is divided into the mountain called Naebyeonsan (Inner Byeonsan) and the coastal area Oebyeonsan (Outer Byeonsan). Naebyeosan consists of rhyolite which was created through eruptions in the Cretaceous period. Stratifications are also clearly noticeable on Chaeseokgang and Jeokbyeokgang (cliffs) in the shores of Gyeokpo. Chaeseokgang is a must-see. See more..

  12. 4.5 Gochangeupseong Fortress (19 reviews)
    - Best attraction in Gochang
    Castles
    Gochangeupseong Fortress image
The fortress itself offers a nice cool, relaxing, and peaceful walk. It consists of a walled enclosure with some restored old fashioned buildings inside. Walking along the walls provide a nice view of the area and town and opportunities to see some different variety of birds. Personally, I found this more substantially interesting than the dolmens in the area. See more..

    - Celadon making experience
    Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums
    Buan Celadon Museum image
We were here to make an exciting experience. My daughter tried to make a bowl-shaped celadon. Initially she kneaded the clay and stacked it high. And then an instructor helped her make the bowl-shape like the image below. Lastly she inscribed what she wanted to draw on the surface. The bowl she made now has to be baked twice soon, in the meantime its surface will be coated. It will take a few weeks more. They promised to us it will be delivered within 2 months. See more..

  20. 4.5 Donghak Revolution Memorial Hall (12 reviews)
    - Wanna know Korean history? Must-go!!!
Spent < 1 hour History Museums
    Donghak Revolution Memorial Hall image
Donghak is a revolutionary movement from the root. Most members, participants were farmers. The principles and doctrines are still very good from the perspective of modern people like me. And also it was influenced by the Catholic and Christianity from Western culture. And it was the step stone for the Japanese army to come inside of Korea and later rule Korea.... The upper class asked for the help from the Japan to suppress the movement. It's sad story. You will know the part of Korean history there. See more..
  21. 4.0 Jeonju Hanok Village (859 reviews)
    - I fell in love at first sight
Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Jeonju Hanok Village image
I chose to come to Jeonju because of its traditional hanok village and I was not disappointed. It’s a right choice to do. I took KTX train from Seoul to Jeonju and continues by bus until arrived in this beautiful village. My hotel was at the beginning of the hanok village and I did not have idea that on my way finding my hotel I actually was passing some alleys of the hanok village. It’s very beautiful and picturesque, I took a lot of photos here. Many people rented traditional hanbok dress and walked around the village to take pictures of themselves. It’s a really nice place to sit, sip your drink, enjoy your foods or just watch people go by. Jeonju is a small town, calm and quiet but has its own charm maybe because of the hanok village. You don’t need many days, it’s good for a day or two. See more..
  22. 4.0 Jeondong Catholic Church (348 reviews)
    - A site to see
    Religious Sites
    Jeondong Catholic Church image
While I have not went inside of this beautiful building, it is something I am reviewing because everytime you see it, you always stare in aww at it. I've seen this building at least 15 to 20 times. This building is located right around the beginning of Hanok Village, and it is a significant landmark in Jeonju. A trip inside of the building would have to be amazing. Whenever I go to Korea again, I will be sure to go inside and leave another review! See more..
  23. 4.0 Gyeonggijeon Shrine (188 reviews)
    - Lovely
    Historic Sites
    Gyeonggijeon Shrine image
Lovely area to take beautiful pics wearing hanbok. There is enough there to get a sense of life in the 1400s. The area is quite large and there’s lots of shade. Perfect for a stroll. Read the signs to learn a bit about the rituals performed and how the area was used. There is also a museum inside that is small but interactive and educational. See more..
  24. 4.0 Pungnammun Gate (157 reviews)
    - Treasure No. 308

    Pungnammun Gate image
We passed by this Pungnammun gate along the way to Nambu market. Monumental structure which gave this city a different feel to it, a pivotal one. Historical site which was re-built in 1768. Impressive that it's still standing tall after such a long period time passage. See more..

  26. 4.0 Omokdae and Imokdae (110 reviews)
    - Worth it if Jeonju is your only stop in Korea or if you want to get away from the busy city
    Historic Sites
    Omokdae and Imokdae image
If you will ONLY visit Jeonju and not other locations with shrines and palaces or if you want a quiet walk away from the busy city then go ahead, but for us it was not worth our effort because we have seen many others and it was a bit out of the way and we wanted to pack in a lot on our 2 day 1 night trip and this took more time than I wanted. It’s a reasonably short walk less than a mile surely- up hillsides and over a bridge. It was not at all crowded and we went ahead to the art district afterwards since we were close. It was fine, but compared to everything else we’ve done in this beautiful country it wasn’t worth our time. See more..
