  1. 5.0 Wolmyeongdong (14 reviews)
    - The best place to pray and feel God through nature
Spent 2-3 hours Religious Sites • Monuments & Statues • Scenic Walking Areas
    Wolmyeongdong image
Wolmyeongdong is a worship and recreation center in Chungnam Province, South Korea. It is located in the mountainside and about 430 meters above sea level. Within Wolmyeongdong itself, there scenic walking trails that led to gazebos that offer panoramic views of the landscape. Around the main sanctuary are beautiful rock landscapes that are unique to only Korea. See more..
  2. 4.5 The Independence Hall of Korea (132 reviews)
    - So interesting - and many exhibits are in English
    Monday: History Museums
The Independence Hall of Korea image
It was only ₩2,000 for our car to get in. The museums were AWESOME. The first starts with prehistoric times on the peninsula, and subsequent museums move toward the present-day. (Quick temperature scan at the first museum and a phone call to check in is all you need. They put a sticker on your sleeve so you don't have to do it in the other museums.) There's a bridge near the entrance where you can feed koi - you just put ₩1,000 into the little vending machine to get a cup of food. The koi are HUGE. There are a few coffee shops and two eMarts in there, and lots of bathrooms. They even have trash cans along some of the walkways! See more..
  3. 4.5 Gongju Gongsanseong Fortress (90 reviews)
    - Historical Gongsang fort
Monday: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Gongju Gongsanseong Fortress image
Google has a bulk of information about the history of the fort. I want to share the beauty of the area. From the other side of the river it is an "u" shaped beautiful hill. From the front it is like a structure that is standing still to protect you and from the top you will feel like you are the king of this ancient kingdom. See more..
  4. 4.5 Busosanseong Fortress (76 reviews)
    - A good place for a historical walk through in a forest setting
Monday: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Historic Sites
    Busosanseong Fortress image
A good place to take a visit and spend few hours relaxing in the foresty historical setting. It costs ₩2,000 to enter (about $1.50). You can experience Korean forest in this place and it is reserved under UNESCO. Worth a visit if you are a history-archeology buff, or just for a brisk walk. Entrance has a fountain spring where you can drink from the natural spring water. See more..
  5. 4.5 Gagwonsa Temple (61 reviews)
    - Great place to spend an afternoon.
    Religious Sites
    Gagwonsa Temple image
Gakwonsa Temple and the Independence Hall of Korea make a great day trip to Cheonan! Gakwonsa Temple was built in the 1970s in hopes for the reunification of North and South Korea. There's a 49-foot-tall Buddha statue there that's really impressive. You'll see Buddhists walking circles around it. There are a lot of stairs, especially to get up to the big Buddha. You can overlook the temple grounds from the highest level. It's gorgeous. There were budding cherry blossoms there today! You can park at the very bottom, along the road near the small gift shop and the huge set of stairs, but you don't have to. There is another parking lot if you keep driving up the road a little way. See more..
  6. 4.5 Buyeo National Museum (60 reviews)
    - Interesting history of the Baekje kingdom
    Monday: Speciality Museums
    Buyeo National Museum image
The Buyeo National Museum houses the quintessential Baekje artefact - the Gilt-Bronze Incense Burner of Baekje. It is the prime example of the zenith of Baekje craftsmanship and is definitely worth a look. The museum also presents a detailed history of the Baekje kingdom from the Stone Age until its demise. There are English explanations (information is displayed in English, Korean, Japanese and Chinese) and audio guides are also available. The museum is free of charge (except for the special exhibitions) and can be reached within 10 minutes on foot from the bus terminal. There are signboards pointing to the museum from the bus terminal so it is not difficult to find the place. Definitely worth a visit if you are visiting Buyeo! See more..
  7. 4.5 Hyeonchungsa Shrine (58 reviews)
    - Beautiful year round...honors Admiral Yi
    Historic Sites • Religious Sites
    Hyeonchungsa Shrine image
Originally built in 1706 and rebuilt in 1932 the shrine honors Admiral Yi and several generations of his family. This is a great outdoor area that offers over 5km of trails along with beautiful views and a gorgeous pond. It truly is beautiful all year round; I visited in winter. The crisp air, small crowds, and quietness made this place even more special. If you are pressed on time, skip the museum and head straight to the shrine and walk around the pond on your way back to the parking lot. (Approximately 30 min). I recommend spending 1-1.5 hours to see everything. The museum shares history from 1700s about naval warfare and the infamous turtle ships. Videos begin at the top of each hour. The parking lot is huge, and gives you an idea about how crowded this place gets in the spring/summer. See more..
  8. 4.5 Gongju National Museum (45 reviews)
    - Best museum with Baekje era artifacts
    Monday: Speciality Museums
    Gongju National Museum image
Gongju National Museum was surprisingly a quick visit considering the massive size of the place. The display per area is quite small but the Baekje era artifacts including crown ornaments and pottery are nicely displayed with a good amount of explanation. I didn't particularly like the security staff following me every step of the way but otherwise it probably has the best collection of Baekje era items. See more..
  9. 4.5 Baekje History Reproduction Complex (43 reviews)
    - Nice recreation of Baekje
Monday: Historic Sites • History Museums
    Baekje History Reproduction Complex image
Baekje Culture Land would probably be a bit tacky if it was in any other historically significant area. But since the Baekje Kingdom fell in the 7th century, there isn't a whole lot of original artifacts left in Buyeo other than rusted pieces of iron or broken pieces of pottery. The recreation of Baekje era architecture gives visitors a much better idea of what it may have looked like back then rather than staring at some empty fields with some holes. The complex has a separate evening visiting block when the buildings are nicely lit up although the folk village area and the museum are off limits. Many Baekje inhabitants fled to Japan when Silla took over which explains the Korean impact on Japanese architecture. You can easily see where Japan got its influence from the recreations in the park. See more..
  10. 4.5 Yeonginsan (34 reviews)
    - Great outdoor opportunity to enjoy
    Mountains
    Yeonginsan image
We have 5 kids (ages 2-14). We parked at a lower level, had our temperatures checked then started on a trail about half way up. That trail was beautiful. We made it about 1 mile in then turned around. We drove on up to the top and realized we should have done that to start with. Entrance fee by car was 9500 for 2 adults, 5 children and the facilities were lovely and peaceful. Easy to maintain distance to comply with Covid rules. See more..
  11. 4.5 Sudeoksa Temple (33 reviews)
    - Awesome experience, visit if you can.
    Religious Sites
    Sudeoksa Temple image
Out of the many temples we have visited, this is one we will remember. Picturesque and serene, with an extensively rich history (one of the oldest structures in Korea). Easy to get to with Waze, was an enjoyable half day trip from Camp Humphreys. This temple offers more of a cultural experience than many of the others we have visited. Restaurants, cafes, souvenirs and other shops can be found near the temple entrance. See more..

    - Gungnamji Pond is great for a summer retreat!
Monday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent 2-3 hours Historic Sites • Bodies of Water • Parks
    Gungnamji Pond image
Very interesting place. I loved it. I read a bit about the place from VsitKorea.com which says “Gungnamji Pond is, located in Seodong Park, is Korea’s first artificial pond and was created by King Mu from the Baekje dynasty, who was in love with and eventually married Princess Seonhwa. Gungnamji, literally means “a pond in the south of the royal palace” in Korean, was named according to the Samguksagi record, based on which the King Mu dug this lake south of his palace in the 35th year of his reign and connected it by a 7800-meter long waterway to the water source. The king then had willow trees planted around the bank and had an artificial mound constructed in the middle of the lake.” It’s really wonderful how Lorea preserves such historical sites. See more..

    National Parks
    Gyeryongsan National Park image
The park is very big and beautiful. You have to drive for about half an hour from Daejeon city. Prior to entering the park you can enjoy a nice traditional Korean meal. In order to enter you have to pay entrance fee but is not much (approx. 3$ per person). The park is designed with walking paths which are very nice to cross for every age. The park is highly recommended if you are in the area and it’s a big touristic attraction. You will not be disappointed See more..
  19. 4.5 Muchangpo Beach (23 reviews)
    - Unforgettable experience
    Beaches
    Muchangpo Beach image
If you want to experience something amazing in nature, the best place to go is Muchangpo beach. When my family arrived at the beach during the lowest tide of the day, we could see a sea road in the middle of the sea! This elegant S-shaped road connects the Muchangpo beach and an island ‘Seokdaedo’. We reached at the island just by walking across this road, which made me feel like floating in the sea and was an unforgettable experience ever. Furthermore, when you feel hungry then you could eat a variety of fresh seafood at a nearby fish market. I can’t recommend this place enough! See more..

  22. 4.5 Daedunsan Natural Recreation Forest (18 reviews)
    - Breathtaking mountain views- worth the climb!
    Forests
    Daedunsan Natural Recreation Forest image
This was our first trip in the mountains of Korea. There’s a big car park at the bottom of the mountain with quite a few places to eat. The cable car station is a short walk up the steep road. The cable car goes every 20 minutes and takes about 5 minutes to get to the top where there are breathtaking views across the mountains. As it was February it wasn’t very busy. From the cable car there are steep steps up a metal staircase to the suspension bridge and from there you can either go back down to the cable car or clamber up rocks to reach the foot of the stairway. I was the only one on the stairway so it was fine, but wouldn’t have fancied it with lots of people! Overall it was a great place to visit. About 1 hour drive from Jeonju. See more..
  23. 4.5 Taeanhaean National Park (17 reviews)
    - Beautiful beaches and trails
    National Parks
    Taeanhaean National Park image
Beautiful park comprising many coastal areas. I particularly liked Mallipo beach as a place to stay (lovely beach with hotels, restaurants and good facilities). For walks and landscape Sinduri dunes (and beach) and Haenbyongil beach were especially beautiful with long and wide beaches backed by grass and thick pine forests. Lots of trails. Gijipo Beach is a beautiful beach for camping (there were a few people camping there under the shade of pine trees when we visited). It's best to hire a car so that you can visit all the various areas independently and at your own pace. (You need an international driving permit to hire a car in South Korea). See more..

  25. 4.5 Gwanchoksa Temple (13 reviews)
    - 논산의 대표적인 명소 관촉사 석조미륵보살입상(The Stone Statute of Mireuk Buddha of Kwan Chok Sah Temple in Non San)
    Religious Sites
    Gwanchoksa Temple image
The Stone Statute of Mireuk Buddha of Kwan Chok Sah Temple which was established during the King, Kwang Jong in Korea Dynasty has been called Eun Jin Mireuk by general people and a core place of Buddhism and Mireuk Worship in this area. It is said the biggest stone Buddha statute in Asia. Comparing the present time when it is still so huge, it seemed worth calling the enormous construction about 1,000 years ago. The legend that the Mireuk Buddha Statute has responded to extraordinary calamities in country and natural disasters is spreaded among people widely. See more..

    Neighborhoods
    Oeam Folk Village image
I went here during the week. There was hardly anyone here. There was a 2 & 4 year old in our group. They loved running around. The village is great and shows what homes looked like back in the day. The cost was only 1000won for kids and 2000won for adults. It is close to the mountains. There is a small restaurant at the entrance. We had some cold noodle soup and kimchi. Our favorite part was up a hill under some trees. There were 2 great swings that we really enjoyed. Great views of the town and the swing went out over a planted field. The kids and adults loved it. This is a slow paced event and well worth a visit. See more..

Songsan-ri Tombs and Royal Tomb of King Muryeong image
Several number of tombs were visited by me along with my friends. The museum was the center of attraction. Besides, the scinic beauty of the area was eye catching. 30. 4.0 Buyeo Jeongnimsaji Temple (61 reviews)
    - Tranquility
    Historic Sites • Religious Sites
    Buyeo Jeongnimsaji Temple image
The Jeongnimsaji Temple is easily accessible on foot from the bus terminal (in fact all the historical sites are accessible without transportation). The entrance fee is only 1500 won, which is absolutely worth it for this UNESCO Heritage site. The renowned 5-storied pagoda sits in the centre of the complex in front of a temple building housing a stone Buddha. There are some signs with English explanations. The Buddhism museum within the same complex is pretty fascinating as well. It covers the spread of Buddhism from India and China to the Baekje and Silla kingdoms and its subsequent development. However, the explanatory boards in the museum are almost completely in Korean so it might be difficult for visitors who are unfamiliar with the language. See more..
