    Mausoleum of Oljaitu image
This area was the ancient capital of the Illkanid dynasty (the Mongols). The building is of major historic significance as it represents earliest example of a double dome still in existence in Iran. The dome is covered on the outside with magnificent blue tiles and the building itself contains many examples of mosaic brickwork with later additions of plaster work and tiles. The scaffolding in the building hides much of the interior but it still possible to see the building. It is worthwhile climbing the stairs to the first floor gallery and then onto the higher level that gives access to the outside balcony. The upper floors show exquisite use of coloured bricks. The steps are steep but manageable. At the entrance is a small gift shop with lovely handmade jewellery and other objects. The daggers are lovely but probably difficult to export See more..
  6. 4.5 Katalehkhour Cave (7 reviews)
    - My faforite cave in Iran

    Katalehkhour Cave image
Katalehkhor Cave is located in Zanjan Province in the North-west of Iran. You'll take a one-hour-and-a-half bus ride to this cave from Zanjan, the capital of Zanjan Province in Iran. It is believed this cave is around 40 million years old and 30 km long but visitors will only see 10 km of it. Visitors will see beautiful and picturesque stalactites and stalagmites inside the cave, some of which have naturally formed shapes resembling Holy Mary hugging Jesus, elephant's paw, lion's paw, sleeping lion etc. I recommend that all the members of the TripAdvisor should visit this cave. You will not regret your trip to Iran to visit this cave! I'm an Iranian and visited this cave 10 months ago. I'll attach some photos for all the people interested to see. It's a beautiuful place but no one has tried to introduce it to the people all over the world. See more..

    - Ancient Temple of Dash Kasen

    Dashkasan Temple image
Or as the tourists know it, the Dragon Temple. On the margin of the village of Wir, it is about 15 km from the historical city of Soltanieh, which is dominated by two prominent dragons and several Islamic altars on both sides of it and are adorned with each other. One of the reasons why this temple is famous is because of its dragon's roles that we have not seen similar specimens elsewhere in Iran. According to some archaeologists, the temple dates back to pre-Islamic times, which included dragons at the time of the Ilkhans. The way to the temple is not so good and from the village of Vera to the next is completely earthy and without a guide. The path to the temple is about 5 km from the edge of the village See more..
