- 5.0 Tergever (1 review)
-Scenic Area
Spent More than 3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Castles • Churches & Cathedrals
This is a region that is nice if you like nature. It's away from the city and into the mountain area. There is a place to ski in the winter or when the snow has melted you can hike into the mountains or enjoy a picnic along one of the river areas. It's not a destination with an exact location. It's more of an area. See more..

- 4.5 Takht-e Soleyman (69 reviews)
-It was worth the whole journey to Iran
Sunday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Ancient Ruins
Takht e Soleiman is an incredible place as well as Zendan Soleiman. Moreover, there is a small village between the two from where you can hike to the archaeological site (Takht e Soleiman) and the mountain/volcano (Zendan e Soleiman). I have spent four hours all together between the two sites and the village and would love to come back soon. You can also sleep in the village in a recently refurbished traditional house. Strongly recommended! See more..

Wow, such a beautiful old church. Historically this is the Monastery of St. Thaddeus (AKA Jude, one of Jesus Christ's 12 disciples). Iran's cultural heritage is working on fixing this historic church since its now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its used for three days out of the year in July. Beautiful stone carvings, courtyard, and nice views. See more..

- 4.5 Chapel of Dzordzor (7 reviews)
-Small but Magnificent Chapel
Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings
Such a beautiful chapel in an awesome place. It is small but awesome. Next to the village of Barun. No one knows of this chapel/church. I asked around and then got a taxi at my hotel in Maku and they took me here. It was part of a much bigger monastery and slowly destroyed as the years went by since a thousand years ago. In the 1980's the government decided to build a dam and brought the remaining part of the monastery (this chapel) up the hill (where it is now). This place is hard to get to and make sure to bring your personal documents (I had my passport and ID) because this place is next to a sensitive dam. See more..

Bodies of Water
The Chah dam is built 12 km west of the city of Urmia and has a reservoir volume of up to normal levels of more than 221 million cubic meters, a height of 119 meters and a river bed of 84 meters. In recent years, after the construction of the dam, the area has become a tourist destination for nature and fishing enthusiasts, and nature lovers come here to see the country's exquisite landscapes and visit the beautiful natural attractions and beauty of this area from our beloved country. . The water of this dam is supplied from the river of the city of tea, which flows from the heights of Shahidan, Khalil, Zina to Bhutan, and springs up many villages along its path, creating a magnificent front that is unique in its kind. -A beautiful spot
Spent < 1 hour Churches & Cathedrals
The garden is serene and the building carries the stories of the past 1800 years. For Assyrians this is a holy site and the doors are usually locked. Ask the coffee shop in front of the building to see if they can find the caretaker... See more..
- 4.0 St. Thaddeus Monastery (2 reviews)
-Interesting
Sunday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent More than 3 hours Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings • Religious Sites
The church has been well restored on the outside but is incredibly bleak inside and not like it would have been originally. The surrounding monastery buildings and garden are interesting and worth a look. However, the whole complex has a sad and forlorn air about it. As we had driven here on a day trip from Tabriz which was an incredibly long journey, I did feel that the trip was barely worthwhile. See more..

-Very Ancient City
Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Ancient Ruins • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Historic Walking Areas • Lookouts
I took a road trip from Urmia to Takab and went to see Hasanlu Teppe in the middle. This site is very ancient. People had been living in this city/village since 6th millennium BC to the 3rd century AD. It was destroyed by the Assyrians multiple times. There isn't much to see except the hill (teppe) and whats been dug more than 50 years ago. Everything that was found has been put in museums. See more..

If you liked the Il-Khanid stucco mihrab in the Jame Mosque in Isfahan, you will love this enormous mihrab with exquisite detail. The three-dimensional globular decorations are especially impressive. The mihrab is in process of being of being restored and a mosque guide will explain things (in a Farsi). You will need to enter through the bazaar - which will tempt you to return and eat or shop for lunch. See more..
