First of all, Jankovac Forest is just a small semi-privat area. There is a owner of a concession who runs that large lodge, but that is not in this review. That restaurant over there has got other qualities and elements to describe. So, this Jankovac, with all those trees, lakes, rivers, springs, animals of all kinds, it's just wonderful!!! We came there by foot from Velika (Lapjak mountaing house) over Trišnjica mountain hut and it took almost 4 hours for us (we are in a good shape). We slept in Jankovac, it was ok., nothing special, and then we proceeded via old cemetery to the Ivačka glava and then over Old town back down to the Parking of Lapjak house. This nature is wonderful and I want it to keep it that way. But things that ruin peace are: loud stonepit that you pass on your way and men on motorbikes who run trough and make noise and disturb animals! See more..

We went here to do some wine tasting as in this region there are a lot ofe wineries. This cellar has a lot more to offer than just wine tasting. It tells the story of almost 800 years of winemaking and famous historic figures visiting the castle and it's cellar over the course of history. We were here as part of a tour group. The whole story is that your heart breaks... During the Homeland War in Croatia, as I was born in Zagreb and live here...we watched reports of the hospital and the attacks on Vukovar on television. But when you come in Vukovar ... and you see all this with your own eyes, even though they are presented with dolls ... it's frightening and sad. Worth visiting! See more..

Known as the Red Fićo to locals, or the Battle of Osijek monument, this is an absolute must see in Osijek. On 27 june 1991 a red fićo blocked the path of a YNA tank which didn't so much as stop before crushing it. The picture was famous worldwide, and a video titled "Crveni fićo" shows the whole scene unfold. This is a monument to that event, however now the tank is the one being crushed (by nothing other than the fićo), to remind everyone of the independence that was fought for. After paying 60 hrk for 2 seniors and using the clean restrooms, we proceeded up the slow ramp that zig zags up through the museum. It climbs the Danube bluff where this culture lived in dense settlements of thatch covered ~ 500 sq. ft. “daub and wattle” huts. The archaeological finds are displayed or recreated to show how these 5’ 1” women and 5’4” men lived their lives by fishing, raising grain and cattle, making pottery, hide footwear, even copper axes, all predating the Greeks. I was with my family in Osijek and they took us to the Zoo, we crossed the river with a small boat and came to the zoo. It used to be the largest zoo in Croatia. I was fascinated by the fact that the animals are somehow close and accessible, it is big and there are all kinds of animals. The Đakovo Cathedral is definitely the must see place in Đakovo, it is something you cannot miss while here. It is a beautiful neoromanic style church and with its 84 metres it is the building that it is impossible not to see, it is even visible from the highway. The interior is even more beautiful looking than the exterior. I was there on a rainy day so the colors could not be seen as brightly as they would be on a sunny day, but it did not really take away its beauty. I am not sure if it is open all the time, when I was there, on a saturday around noon it was open and there were few people also visiting and those who worked there. See more..

The Odescalchi Castle is the central building situated in the medieval town of Ilok, housing Museum of the Town of Ilok.The Odescalchi Castle is an impressive building built on the foundations of the castle of King Nikola Ilocki from the 15th century. Nikola's medieval castle with the entire Ilok estate, which at the time occupied the greater part of Srijem, were given by Emperor Leopold to Pope Innocent XI Odescalchi and his family as a reward for their help in liberating Ilok from the Turks. The Pope's nephews, aristocrats from Italy, expanded the castle and changed its style. The castle was eventually rebuilt in the Baroque-Classicist style. They developed at the time very modern wine cellars beneath the castle and gave impetus to the growth of viticulture and wine production. After 1945, the Odescalchi left their Ilok estate, and their descendants remain a part of the Italian nobility, living near Rome. See more..
