Vučedol Culture Museum, Slavonia, Croatia

4.5 (38 reviews) Spent 1-2 hours Ranking #3 in Slavonia Speciality Museums • Natural History Museums • History Museums

Excellent museum with plenty of English descriptions.

After paying 60 hrk for 2 seniors and using the clean restrooms, we proceeded up the slow ramp that zig zags up through the museum. It climbs the Danube bluff where this culture lived in dense settlements of thatch covered ~ 500 sq. ft. “daub and wattle” huts. The archaeological finds are displayed or recreated to show how these 5’ 1” women and 5’4” men lived their lives by fishing, raising grain and cattle, making pottery, hide footwear, even copper axes, all predating the Greeks. Excellent museum with plenty of English for 1-2 hours.

    Wow
I wasn't familiar with Vucedol culture, this museum was a total surprise. The exhibition is multi-medial and very interesting.

Wonderful presentation - the life 4.000 BC
I like history and I like museums so I guess it is not so easy to surprise me. But, what I saw there is really outstanding. The building (nicely incorporated in the landscape) is built just under the location where the ancient settlement was. Starting the tour I felt like I was slowly transported back in time. They don’t just put in front of you the exhibits from 3-4.000 BC but they paint step by step the picture how the life was then – tools, food, houses, clothing.... it suddenly becomes real life. And on the end – you go out and you are on the original place – with Danube and magic plain under your feet. Also, the staff was very friendly and ready to explain everything you want to know. Amazing experience – I will give myself more time for my next visit.
