  1. 5.0 Reserva Punta Curinanco (159 reviews)
    - Must go!
Saturday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Reserva Punta Curinanco image
This was my favorite part of the whole trip. About an hour away from Valdivia, and very cheap. After you get off the bus at the reserve, follow the dirt path up behind the houses, to the left, to get to the hiking portion. The fee is only 1000 pesos (incredible), and the man attending the gate gives you a great overview of what to expect. The walk is so peaceful and beautiful, with amazing views of the ocean. I felt like I was in another world the whole time. It gets a little steep at the beginning of the walk, nothing too strenuous though, but levels out. It's so worth it, and then you can relax on the beach afterwards. There's also a cute restaurant right at the top of the cliff, with gorgeous, friendly dogs running around. I highly, highly recommend it. See more..

    Rucapillan Expediciones image
We had booked with another firm but at the last minute (when we arrived !) they told us they don’t have the minimum so called Racupullian. The guys were excellent and Victor a fantastic translator as our great captain (Luis?) didn’t speak English. Very professional and good safety brief. We had a brilliant morning in the sun and a beautiful way to see more of the area. Luis agreed to send his go pro by We transfer but unlike other review simply happy to do so for whatever tip we have and not pushy at all. Christian the owner also on hand. Tea/coffee and nut/dried fruit snacks at the end too .Recommended. See more..

  5. 5.0 Reserva Nacional Mocho Choshuenco (33 reviews)
    - A great adventurous day out
Saturday: 8:00 AM - 7:00 PM Spent More than 3 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Reserva Nacional Mocho Choshuenco image
This requires a 4x4 if you are going to get anywhere - the roads are unpaved and then when you enter into the park on the way to the volcano the roads get worse. Just after you cross the river having done many kilometres, you have to pay an entrance fee and only real 4x4 vehicles can go on from here. You reach a flat area where you can park and it is then about 1 hour (400m climb) to the glacier and longer to the cone(s) themselves. Great views and well worth doing but be prepared - can get cold, take water and sun lotion, good shoes needed and be careful on the decent as the track can be slippery due to loose volcanic gravel. 6. 4.5 Mercado Fluvial de Valdivia (1.467 reviews)
    - Pretty Neat
Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Mercado Fluvial de Valdivia image
Fairly classic riverside market, well worth a visit. 3 things really interesting for me, beyond expectations. Gorgeous array of colourful fresh fish, fruits and vegetables, with lots of ceviche local made to buy on the spot, all in a covered but well vented space you can enjoy rain or shine. Watch and admire the fish mongers at work for a few minutes as they effortlessly clean and fillet the many fish on display with razor sharp knives. They make it look so easy and methodical, but if it was me, I would have sliced my fingers off in seconds! Plus, really cool that six or seven HUGE Sea Lions were just a metre behind them, (you could literally walk up and touch them!) taking the choicest trimmings while many more seals, sea gulls and vultures waited for their take further down the food chain. And it is all free to see! See more..

  9. 4.5 Bahia de Corral (397 reviews)
    - Trip to the Bay of Corral: most enjoyable!
    Bodies of Water • Beaches
    Bahia de Corral image
When visiting Valdivia, we did the trip to the Bay of Corral with the Marques de Mancera boat. The tickets you buy on the pier of Valdivia near the fish market (Mercado Fluvial). It it includes a meal on board: good food. It is a midsized ship with two decks, no crowds! On our deck were only about 6 tables for lunch. Usually there is only one family, group per table. My wife, brother-in-law and myself had the table to ourselves. The trip to the island of Corral was very enjoyable, particularly the visit to the fortress, with its historic representation which is most colourful. There I learned that Dutch pirates, stationed in Pernambuco Brasil, invaded the area, thus provoking the Spanish Crown and as a consequence fortificationes were build on the island. Furthermore the island of Mancera is visited . Worthwile outdoor trip when you visit Valdivia. See more..

  13. 4.5 Huilo Huilo Reserva Biológica (291 reviews)
    - Great Day Hikes if staying in Huilo Huilo
Saturday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent More than 3 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Huilo Huilo Reserva Biológica image
We only had one day in the area, but we made it count by taking three trails: Huilo Huilo, Puma, y Hoffman. Since we were crunched on time these were the three trails recommended to us by Huilo Huilo reservation and they did not disappoint. The first two are fairly short but offer amazing spectacles of two massive waterfalls (Huilo Huilo being by far the best). These two trails are located right next to each other so they are easy to tackle in one fall swoop. Hoffman is back by the hotels and is a big harder two find as you walk down a back road for about a half mile before you get to the hidden trail entrance to the left of the bridge. This trail was gorgeous though! It follows the bank of the river, giving you opportunities to sneak out onto the river on a couple of rock outlooks. Overall, very gorgeous trails that are not very taxing and a great day activity to do with friends, family, or solo! See more..
  14. 4.5 Mancera Island (253 reviews)
    - I borned in Valdivia and i love this place :)
    Islands
    Mancera Island image
Since i was a kid, i used to came to Mancera. It's a really quiet place that you can easily make a complete tour in a couple of hours. You can take a boat from Niebla's beach and you should arrive to the island between 30-45 minutes. Once you arrive to the island you can take a walk in the beach or visit the small park. Also there're some small coffee/restaurants where you could take a beverage and taste local pastry. I recommend definitely this place :) See more..

We visited this place on our one-day tour around Valdivia. I was amazed at its beauty and calmness. Unfortunately, there weren't many flowers as my visit was off season. However, I managed to take beautiful pictures and enjoy the wonderful surroundings with different kinds of species of trees. For taking pictures, the morning light may be nicer on the lake. - A must see - really!

    Sendero el Puma image
A simple walk for all ages on a clearly marked path which will leed you to some really beautiful views of powerful running rapids and mountainous views. The path, at times, can be slippery so bring proper attire. The accent cannot be more then 300 metes. A few steps maybe be a bit complicated for the elderly but do NOT let that be the reason to not visit. A few water falls maybe visible depending on the rain fall. You only need 30 to make the trek but take the time to enjoy each of the views provided (with benches for resting if needed). You will not need a guide See more..

  28. 4.5 Iglesia de Quinchao (52 reviews)
    - A World Heritage site in a tiny and quaint village
    Churches & Cathedrals
    Iglesia de Quinchao image
On the road south of Achao, and past the spectacular mirador (look out), is the town of Quinchao. This tiny village with a very beautiful waterfront contains this most impressive church. From the outside you can imagine the woodworkers building this structure with care and love. Once you step inside however, you are initially overwhelmed by the size and the work that has been performed. Look up to take in the boat builder style vaulted ceiling. It is truly a stunning structure especially because of it's location. Learning just a little of the history you find that on December 8 all of the villages around the area come here to pray. And one can understand why. Enjoy the drive here, be amazed at this World Heritage site and savor this building initially contructed at the end of the 18th century. You won't regret it. I was there on a Monday around 11:30 am and it was open to the public. Donations are welcomed. See more..
