Trip to the Bay of Corral: most enjoyable!

When visiting Valdivia, we did the trip to the Bay of Corral with the Marques de Mancera boat. The tickets you buy on the pier of Valdivia near the fish market (Mercado Fluvial). It it includes a meal on board: good food. It is a midsized ship with two decks, no crowds! On our deck were only about 6 tables for lunch. Usually there is only one family, group per table. My wife, brother-in-law and myself had the table to ourselves. The trip to the island of Corral was very enjoyable, particularly the visit to the fortress, with its historic representation which is most colourful. There I learned that Dutch pirates, stationed in Pernambuco Brasil, invaded the area, thus provoking the Spanish Crown and as a consequence fortificationes were build on the island. Furthermore the island of Mancera is visited . Worthwile outdoor trip when you visit Valdivia.

    Nice boat ride
Book a boat tour around this area, departing from the city ideally. You'll get a full view of the fluvial system and the ocean.

    lucky day
All the stars aligned for my trip to Corral. My boyfriend and I picked our last day in Valdivia to go to Corral and Niebla, the fort town opposite Corral, without realizing that we would have gorgeous weather, the Esmeralda Navy ship, and a Chilean Navy ceremony all at once. We first took the micro to Niebla, where we explored the fort ruins, then took a ferry over to Corral for about 800 pesos each - although a local told us it's usually 400 per person. Corral is definitely more lively than Niebla, with many more restaurants and a larger and better maintained fort. The only problems we had were related to the Esmeralda and influx of tourists - every single restaurant in Corral had run out of food by 3:00pm and there's only so much kuchen, however amazing, one can stomach. Corral's definitely worth at least 2 hours of your time, especially if you're lucky enough to visit the area on a sunny day.
