Excellent tour operator in Valle Las Trancas. We did the hike to the volcano and two different River hikes (one including a scenic waterfall). We loved it. The tours are small - depending on the tour, you never have more than 6-10 people on each tour. It’s great. Makes the experience much better. The guides are very good and knowledgeable about nature, ecotourism and local area in general. Valle Las Trancas itself is a charming little mountain town with all the necessities like restaurants, shops, cafes and places to rent bikes or book tours. Founded in 1919, The University of Concepcion is one of the oldest university campuses in Chile. Entering through the Arco de Medicina (Medicine's arch) you will be placed centrally in direction to the center of the campus. I recommend you to visit the Campanil de la Universidad (Campanile structure) located in front of the forum. The place is big, so be careful to not get lost inside it. Fundada en 1919, la Universidad de Concepción es uno de los campus universitarios más antiguos en Chile. Entrando a través del Arco de Medicina estarás entrando en dirección al centro del campus. This is my favorite place to go in the area. Beautiful black sand beach with a rocky sea. It is fun to walk around and explore. Not a great place to swim but I rarely get in the water anywhere around here as it is always cold. Waves always seem big too. Maybe good for surfing. I have been many times. The park was remodeled this year and it is a great place to walk with family with children. It has several playgrounds for kids, a skate park, fitness corner and futball and basketball grounds appart from chess and pingpong tables. All in all its a 3 Km walk (round trip) and it is sure worth it to take a good breath in nature. For the ones who want to walk a bit more in the park is the door to Cerro caracol where one can enjoy one of the most beautiful views of Concepción and BioBio river. Very nice walk for everyone. Plus, both park and cerro caracol are pretty well secure with police and security and for jogging at noght the park counts with great illumination. See more..

I arrived at the stadium following a recommendation and upon arriving, noticed it was right by the bus station. Literally right next to it! However, you go inside and the aesthetics of the stadium are something to behold. First off, the seats match the color of the local University and they are spread around in an artsy way, with yellow as the background and blue sort of sprinkled down. The field seemed in great condition. Anyways, definitely a fun little trip especially if you need to use the bus station. If you go see a game, I was told by locals (and then verified so myself), I recommend sitting in the top section as your field of vision is definitely wider. See more..

I went trekking in Antuco in the south of Chile. Excellent guide Juan Andrés from BioBio Outdoors. It's a must as the region is beautiful with overwhelming landscapes and fresh air. There was hardly any snow because of the rain, but it was perfect to walk to the multiple waterfalls and to Laguna El Laja. You need firm trekking boots because of the extensive areas witj volcano slag and a good raincoat and warm jacket especially in fall and winter. And don't miss a shish kebab with sopaipilla just next to the park's entrance. Go and enjoy the beauty of our South. See more..

Wow! Must see this if you are in Chillan. Murals in hallway and library (which is one big room) with walls and ceiling painted by Mexican muralist David Alfaro Siqueiros. "Muerte al invasor" (Death to the invaders) One shows an Aztec emperor shooting arrows at a cross, symbolizing the anger of the native people at the imposition of the religious invasion. It is quite moving to see, taking up an entire wall and part of the ceiling. There is an attendant who provided me with a written explanation of the murals (in English). See more..

The snow is great. The geography extraordinary. Lifts appear to have been built in the 1970s and not a dime has been spent on them since. They are old, slow, dated, unreliable, operated by really not experienced people. There are no lines for singles. There is virtually no signage. No signs.Any description of the level of difficulty of a specific run is obviously wrong. Barely a ski patrol. An awesome location with an operator that takes away most of the joy of skiing. This stop for the saltos is just a few minutes off Ruta 5 and well worth the little side trip for the gorgeous views and to stretch out of the car. It’s a short walk down to the falls but is fairly muddy at the end where the mist from the falls wets the ground (you can just stop earlier on the path to avoid this though).
