  4. 5.0 Legends of Gent Free Walking Tour (1.988 reviews)
    - Great night tour with Sebastian!!!
Wednesday: 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM Cultural Tours
Legends of Gent Free Walking Tour image
I did a Free Evening Tour: The Dark Side of Gent on Mar. My tour guide Sebastian is excellent. He is very knowledgeable and approachable. As a local growing up in Ghent, he is very passionate to share with us the history, culture, customs of this beautiful city, especially at night time. He made great jokes and recommended us some local places to try authentic food with affordable price. Also, he is very kind to not mention any things about the tips after the tour. I feel so bad for him when some participants didn't even tip him in the end, which is not nice. I can see that he is doing it because he likes it and everyone please tip the tour guide because he does a good job, not because this is "free" as you think. See more..
  5. 5.0 Tyne Cot Cemetery (1.478 reviews)
    - Overwhelming
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Cemeteries
    Tyne Cot Cemetery image
It is now the largest Commonwealth war cemetery in the world in terms of burials. At the suggestion of King George V, who visited the cemetery in 1922, the Cross of Sacrifice was placed on the original large pill-box. There are three other pill-boxes in the cemetery. There are now 11,956 Commonwealth servicemen of the First World War buried or commemorated in Tyne Cot Cemetery. 8,369 of the burials are unidentified but there are special memorials to more than 80 casualties known or believed to be buried among them. Other special memorials commemorate 20 casualties whose graves were destroyed by shell fire. There are 4 German burials, 3 being unidentified. The cemetery was designed by Sir Herbert Baker. The TYNE COT MEMORIAL forms the north-eastern boundary of Tyne Cot Cemetery and commemorates nearly 35,000 servicemen from the United Kingdom and New Zealand who died in the Ypres Salient after 16 August 1917 and whose graves are not known. The memorial stands close to the farthest point in Belgium reached by Commonwealth forces in the First World War until the final advance to victory. The memorial was designed by Sir Herbert Baker with sculpture by F V Blundstone. See more..

    - A must see
Wednesday: 10:00 AM - 5:30 PM Spent 1-2 hours History Museums
    Memorial Museum Passchendaele 1917 image
The Memorial Museum Passchendaele 1917 presents the story of the First World War, with a particular emphasis on the Battle of Passchendaele. This battle in 1917 is known as one of the most horrific battles from the First World War, with almost 600,000 casualties for a movement of the frontline of only eight kilometres. The MMP1917 focuses on the visitor's experience with a replica dugout (underground shelter) and trenches. Using authentic letters, uniforms, video clips ... both young and old get an insight into how life must have been on and around the battlefields. The youngest visitors can go explore on their own with Lisa, Louis and their little friend Maurice, the museum rat. Lisa and Louis visit their grandfather, who collects WWI stuff in the chateau of Zonnebeke. Maurice takes the children on a discovery tour of the museum with the help of a folding map and an audio play. Along the way, they carry out fun assignments. Last admission: 4.30 pm. See more..

    Charlie Tours image
This week we had a guided tour organised by Charlie Tours. The formula we choose was the interactive true at false option. Nick. Or hide was fabulous. The right humour, interacting with the different nationalities in our group and the quize was very entertaining. It was so much better than other guided tours I had in the past. If you want to learn more about Ghent, don't hesitate and select Charlie tours as your guide. And a small tip : if you think the story is false go for true and vica versa. The price for the winner is something you should cherish for the rest of your life. See more..

My husband and I went on a beer walk in Ghent on a wet and chilly day. Our guide, Carine, was lovely. Not only did she stick with the tour even though we were the only 2 customers but she altered the tour to take us on some out of the way places. We enjoyed the beer tasting and lesson, as well as the company. We bought some of the beer we tasted and brought it home to share with friends. Recommend this tour if you are planning to visit Ghent. 20. 5.0 Brouwerij Bosteels (58 reviews)
    - Best brewery tour ever
    Spent 1-2 hours Breweries
    Brouwerij Bosteels image
In the hands of the Bosteels family for over 200 years, the brewery relies today on the craftmanship of seven generations. In 1791, Jean-Baptist Bosteels established the brewery, and has been followed by generations who took over the brewery and never stop brewing, even during the world wars. At that time, the brewery played such an important role in the town, the family Bosteels were such influential people that we are not surprised that 3 of the 7 generations have been Town Mayors. In the year 1930’s Antoine Bosteels, 5th generation, carried on the brewing dynasty and played an important role expanding the sales of the Bosteels Pils into other regions such as Ghent, Antwerp and Brussels. His son Ivo Bosteels honored the iconic beer of Pauwel Kwak by bringing it back to the market in 1980; this is the beginning of the strong beers for Brewery Bosteels. In the year 1990, Ivo’s son, Antoine Bosteels, the 7th generation, understood the potential of strong speciality beers and especially See more..
