Located in the El Mercat District is Central Market Of Valencia which gives this district it's name and what an iconic building this is . Facing the iconic Llotja De La Seda and The Church Of The Juanes ,it's a beautiful example of an architectural style known as Valencian Art Nouveau . There had been a market on this spot since 1839 ,albeit an open air market . This market hall was constructed between 1914-1928 ,several designers and architects worked on the construction of the market hall ,Alexandre Soler Marsh,Francesc Guárdia Vidal and finally completed by Enrique Viedma Vidal. This is one of the largest market halls in Europe covering 8.000 square metres ,it's a hive of activity ,fresh produce ,lots of vendors ,fast food outlets ,it's a great atmosphere here ,around the market hall are all manner of pubs, cafés,bars and restaurants ,it's a market hall ,plaza and area most definitely well worth checking out if you're planning a holiday to Valencia. A lovely building that was unveiled in 1949 houses the voluminous market. This followed decades of it residing in a couple of sheds that were then replaced by the current edifice. Bright and clean within, there’s a plethora of foods available on stalls and counters stretching a distance. We visited just before 10am and it wasn’t at all busy at that hour. See more..

    Benicarlo Central Market image
Whilst in Peniscola we went up to the Benicarlo market which (when we went was on Wendnesdays). The market itself was quite busy with many different types of stalls. I was mainly interested in the indoor food market. It was great to see all the different varieties of fish, meats, cheeses and olives which were being sold. If you are in the area on market day then head down and have a look round. See more..
