5.0Noosa National Park(3.052 reviews) - Natural oasis Sunday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM National Parks
Incredible place. Natural paradise. You can’t miss out if you are in the sunny coast. There are trails all over the national park,I recommend walking through all the park till sunrise beach and the caves. Fairy pools are an amazing place in early morning when there are nit too many people around for a peaceful swim in clear water. It is also a cool diving spot. The scenery is unbelievable. It is often very crowded so I recommend going there in the surly morning so that you’ll enjoy the most of it. Also if you are into surfing there are some cool waves breaks!!See more..

4.5Natural Bridge(876 reviews) - Another Aussie spectacular. National Parks
Aussies really know how to do looking at and after their natural assets. Despite it being New Years day, and therefore heaving with visitors this natural wonder really impressed. We even managed to make out the lil bats and a few glow worms. Free parking and access down a well maintained path. A most enjoyable couple of hours, and despite the busy path the scrub turkeys were pretty tame. Rudimentary toilets, but an excellect coffee shack.See more..
We had a wonderful day exploring Springbrook National Park. Highlight was the Natural Bridge - I suggest getting there early so that you can enjoy it yourself, without the crowd. When we were leaving there were about 20 cars in the carpark. We also visited other areas of the park including the ‘Best of all lookouts’ track, which was a lovely short walk, The Canyon - which is a lovely lookout and starting point for walks such as twin falls, Buliya-Buliya jagon boardwalk, Goomoolahra lookout, and Boojerahla lookout. Just a tip, the Natural Bridge section of the park is about 45 minutes from the other sections of the park, so ensure you take that under consideration when planning your trip and choosing which starting point to put into your GPS.See more..
We went for three days and were blown away. The crystal clear blue waters are such a stark contrast from the brown waters in Cairns. The beaches are mostly coral shingle so I'd recommend investing in a pair of reef shoes before you go. But there are still a few nice patches of soft white sand to lay your towel down at Nuddy beach (don't let the name fool you, it's definitely not a nudist beach, very family friendly). The hikes through the rainforest were stunning and the water was warm and inviting! We were surprised by how good the snorkeling was around White Rock and Shark Fin Bay... loads of healthy living coral and colourful reef fish. We even saw a turtle! I'd definitely recommend eating at Zephrys Restaurant... such a delight. Our only criticism is the drunk tourists. It isn't an issue before 11 am or after 3 pm, because they usually come over for day trips on the ferry and don't stay for the night, but they definitely interfere with the otherwise laid back family vibe of the island. By the end we were so sick of drunk backpackers smoking and blasting their music on the beaches, meters from families trying to relax.See more..
4.5Burleigh Head National Park(494 reviews) - A well maintained path in a scenic walk to the top Spent 1-2 hours National Parks • Beaches • Nature & Wildlife Areas
This was such a scenic walk, constantly changing as I walked to the top and then back down via the opposite side. The beach was so crowded and yet the walking path which starts just at the end of the beachfront was relatively deserted. The pictures speak for themselvesSee more..
4.5Curtain Fig National Park(446 reviews) - Majestic tree - reminded us all of Avatar! Sunday: 12:00 AM - 11:30 PM National Parks
The Curtain Fig is absolutely awe inspiring. It is well sign posted and is an easy stop on many Atherton road trips. Once you arrive, it is only a short walk to the tree itself and a well maintained boardwalk lets you walk around the tree and examine it from every angle. We only spent 15 minutes here but would highly recommend as an addition to any itinerary. We saw both the Curtain and Cathedral Fig trees and of the two this was by far our favourite.See more..

Bengu and Paul have been doing it tough since assuming the ownership of this property. They have been shouldering the downturns of the drought, the fires, and now the pandemic. In spite of it, they have made notable tasteful improvements to the property and the chalets. We stayed for 2 weeks during the escalation of lockdowns and border closures. What a lovely place and environment to gain some respite from the constant bad news. The park is recovering well, and the regrowth has been tremendously beautiful. The kangaroos, bring laughters out loud! Flowers will be spectacular in spring if the world opens up again. They deserve all the return visits again and again. Support them soon!See more..
First visit to this stunning part of Queensland. Stayed at an awesome AirBnB in Bell and drove into the mountains from both south and north directions. Equally stunning roads taking 30-40 minutes. If you want great coffee and toast before you set off then Pips n Cherries is awesome. Also, the mountain cafe Poppys is awesome for breakfast before you start your walks. There are about 10 to choose from of different lengths. We did Barkers Creek Circuit (~10km) the first day and Cherry Point to Mount Kiangarow on the second (~12km). Bunya nuts were plentiful on the walk. Sunsets every evening were different and stunning and the birds are awesome as are the wallabies. We did see a snake at quite close quarters, a reminder to be watchful. See more..
We walked around both Lake Eacham and Lake Barrine. Both tracks are through dense rainforest and don't just follow the edge of the lake. The slopes of the craters are too steep, especially Lake Eacham. So in both cases most of the time you are some distance from the lake, admiring water glimpses rather than views. We probably preferred the Barrine walk. While it is nearly twice as long, there were fewer people and we could have a celebratory coffee at the teahouse when we finished. There is more scope for swimming, kayaking and other water sports at Eacham, if that is more your thing. Lake Eacham also excellent picnic facilities.See more..

This is not for the faint of heart, this is a serious mountain climb, the first 600m rock wall is very steep and dangerous and you will require some good foot wear. There is a cheat track to climb it move easily by starting from the far left off the path and then once you hit the middle you hug the far right inside the trees. Please take extreme caution when making this climb, this mountain is not to be taken lightly and has serious potential for injury or worse. 5.0Broken River(128 reviews) - Delightful Camping Spent 2-3 hours National Parks • Nature & Wildlife Areas
A set of 8 camp sites, we managed to have a group of 15 and only used half the space. Clean well managed toilets. You head back to town 4 km and can have a solar powered hot shower for $2 at the Memorial Hall. The camp site enables daily viewings of platypus, turtles and unlimited birds. Close to the road, but not noisy. Close to the information centre where you have the most amazing cafe that opens at 10 am (you must try their waffles or homemade ice cream). See more..
We went up to Eungella National Park to try and get sight of a Platypus at the Broken River They are so cute the way they dive for food then resurface again and repeat. We saw heaps of them, you are guaranteed to see a platypus in this location! We did the lovely Palm Grove Track which is approximately a 11 return hike and after we had a yummy burger at the cafe nearby. 4.5Murray Falls(118 reviews) - A MUST DO! TOTALLY WORTH THE VISIT National Parks • Waterfalls
Murray Falls was not on my itinerary but after I saw the sign I did a quick google and decided I could fit it in. Man was I pleased I did. Absolutely beautiful and unfortunately photos don't do it justice. I was smiling from ear to ear the whole time I was there. A 20 minute drive off the Highway, with gorgeous swimming holes and a beautiful waterfall. (No swimming at the waterfall only downstream). If I had more time and was staying in the area, I could spend hours here. Waterholes are right next to the lower car park and the boardwalk which is partly accessible by wheelchair is next to the top car park. Public toilets and camping available. The loos were a total mess though, a shame, as it seems to be a popular camping spot. I went mid winter so and there was no March flies, no mosquitos not even flies. It would make for ever better pics in wet season.See more..
Porcupine Gorge National Park is located approximately 72km North of Hughenden. This picturesque gorge is a marvel in itself and is a must see when visiting the Flinders Shire area. Camping is available, however bookings are a must. See you soon!See more..
4.5Inskip Peninsula Recreation Area(115 reviews) - Iconic Australian Beach Spent More than 3 hours National Parks • Nature & Wildlife Areas
Had a lovely afternoon walk on the beach. It goes for miles. Low tide was perfect to wander along the flat large beach. A few blue bottles on the tide line but didn’t stop the ‘ tourists’ from swimming. Maybe local know better!See more..
I was sooo looking forward to our visit here and it did not disappoint! What an incredibly beautiful area! We enjoyed the beach at sunset then returned at Sunrise to catch the Roos on the beach. I was prepared for the Ranger to draw in the Roos by feeding them, but I enjoyed them much more when I wandered away down the beach and caught them in action fighting. Contrary to what I thought, they did not disappear shy first light but actually stayed around for probably a good 1/2-45 min after sunrise before exiting to the cover of the forest. If your in the area, this really is a Must do! I’m sure you will not be disappointed!See more..

4.5Deepwater National Park(84 reviews) - Great place for peace and quiet Sunday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM National Parks
Stayed at Middle Rock camp site for 5 days, there 3 sites I’m aware of Wreck Rocks is the last site which has long drop toilets and bore water.Middle Rock you have to bring your own water and there’s no toilets. There are picnic tables and chairs in each campsite a total of 9 sites in Middle Rock I think, very secluded, Entry to the sites are threw Anges Waters and Baffle creek we come in at Anges water end and it’s about 6 kms of sand track only for 4x4. Baffle creek end you can get to Wreck Rock with a sedan very easy drive, would recommend coming this way.See more..
Only a few km out of Winton is the hidden gem of Bladensburg National Park. It’s a dirt track and recommends 4WD with high clearance. We were absolutely fine with our AWD Subaru Forester. There are well marked sign posts to the Old Homestead and the Scrammy Gorge and Lookout. The Old Homestead is worth looking around, with maps, photos and interesting information. Take the road from there towards the Lookout, through picturesque country with mesas (‘Jumpups’, vegetation and some historic landmarks. We drove as far as Scrammy Gorge. Well worth a look to see how trees cling to life with roots in shallow soil or rock, small casms, and interesting rock layers. Take your camera, water, sunscreen and maybe your sketchbook.See more..
I arrived at Hinchinbrook on a sailing boat at night time, so waking up and seeing the magical island was surreal. It was a misty morning, so it looked straight out of Jurassic Park! We hiked to Zoe Falls and oh my.... it was incredible. The hike up was definitely testing for us inexperienced hikers! But nothing that we couldn’t face! There was a water crossing where you had to navigate over some rocks, and a section where you had to pull yourself up a rock with a rope, but I, a very unco and not athletic person made it up so you can too! Zoe Falls was absolutely breathtaking and I can’t recommend it enough. This island is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. And I can’t wait to go back one day and explore and hike!See more..
4.5Lawn Hill Gorge(72 reviews) - Absolutely fabulous Spent More than 3 hours National Parks
I’ve heard so much about this place and my visit to the gorge exceeded my expectations. We intended to stay longer and do walks but with 40 degree plus days we simply weren’t going to walk. We paddled the gorge and had the most amazing days - scenic, bird life, waterfalls, fish, swim anywhere. It was perfect. We will return at a cooler time to enjoy more of this amazing place. I pulled up in the car park and thought there were no falls. I, however found the walking track down to the viewing platform. The falls are just gorgeous and I could feel a fine mist spray of the water from the platform. See more..
Got the ferry from Townsville. Very helpful lady selling the tickets advised us about using the bus & recommended buying the tickets there. Ferry trip took about 35 minutes to reach Nelly Bay. On arriving we got on the bus to Horseshoe Bay. This is a beautiful bay & very quiet on this particular day. We had a walk along the beach then sat by the swimming area to relax. We later caught the bus to Picnic Bay & had a walk along the jetty. We probably didn’t do the island justice as there are so many places to walk & visit, but we wanted to catch a return ferry about 4:30pm as we were facing a long drive the next day, but we will certainly return for longer.See more..
Barron Gorge is spectacular and only a short drive from Cairns. I’ve come multiple times & used to bring friends here from out of town. It’s through this area of rapids that the Raging Thunder white water rafting tours operate. To get here is a 10 minute drive up the mountain from Lake Placid. Watch out for cassowaries as there were recent sighting signs when I drove up in February 2022. You can walk over the gorge to the hydroelectric power station (no longer open to the public) past Surprise Creek Falls and take in a birds eye view of the lower gorge in both directions from the concrete bridge. I love coming here as you get perspective when you look out into the cavernous gorge where you are a mere tiny speck. The gorge is surrounded by tropical rainforest in both sides.See more..
If you love birdwatching, especially wetland water birds, you will love Hastie’s Swamp National Park. Even if you notice the signs, and take an unplanned detour like I did, you will love it, or find it interesting. There is a huge variety of birds that come here and you will see a few of these at any given time. There is an elevated bird watching tower which you enter after climbing some stairs, and from here you get a great view of the wetland swamp where the water birds congregate as well as interpretive signage describing the birds of the area in detail. Hastie’s Swamp is just a few kms outside of Atherton, and well worth a visit.See more..
We have never been to Mount French National Park before, but I am really glad we chose now to visit. There was a kaleidoscope of butterflies on the grass tree stem just hanging out. I have never seen anything like it before. There have been a lot of butterflies in our area lately but they never stop long enough to get a close look. The view was nice, but for me it was the butterflies that made the trip.See more..
4.5Kuranda National Park(53 reviews) - ok National Parks • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Geologic Formations
Worth visiting, especially if you go by car and have enough time to hike the Kuranda loop (~3 hrs). The skyrail only gives you a few hours, just for a lunch and a stroll. The village is a commercial enterprise, a shopping-eating destination for daily visitors from Cairns; hippies are mostly gone, with a few notable exceptions. When tourists arrive in the late morning the shops open and the place feels normal; after the last train (3:30 PM) it becomes a ghost town. The las bus out is at 4:10 PM, after that - nothing. Lots of birds, look for the australasian figbird.See more..

4.5Cania Gorge National Park(48 reviews) - Great range of walks suitable for all ages. National Parks • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Geologic Formations
Beautiful sandstone bluffs with majestic views and plenty of caves and overhangs to explore. Walking tracks were well marked and accessible for anyone with a moderate level of fitness. Steeper sections have steps, a little "rock hopping" through creek lines and up to the caves, but nothing too difficult. Many of the shorter walks can be completed one after the other. We also did the 22 km return walk to Castle Mountain overlooking Cania Dam - the track up the escarpment to the Gorge Lookout is moderate, with plenty of steps, but from there the track has a very gentle grade along a forestry track. We took 6 hours to complete the track with plenty of breaks for water and snacks - start early to beat the heat of the day.See more..
4.5Conondale National Park(42 reviews) - Great Walk - Says It All. Here are my tips. National Parks • Parks
Completed the 4 day 3 night walk July 2017. Party consisted of two very fit sons (18 & 21) and moderately fit dad (57). I found it hard to get much information about the walk so will add from my experiences. The QPWS recommended times (see below) seemed quite slow. Here are our actual times. 1. Daily Walking time: ! QPWS ! Actual Day 1 ! 6 ! 4'30" Day 2 ! 8 ! 6 Day 3 ! 8 ! 6 Day 4 ! 6 ! 4'30" including time to the fire tower. 2. We walked clockwise - that means your last night is at Summer Falls - spectacular. 3. Being midwinter we didn't expect rain. Wrong. Take rain gear and a tarp. 4. There are leeches on days 2 and 3 and plenty of them. Aerogard roll-on applied liberally to your bare feet before you put socks on works well. 5. On day 4 do take in the Fire Tower. Take lunch to the top and enjoy the breeze and views. It is down hill all the way back to the carpark. 6. We walked midweek and had the overnight camps to ourselves.See more..
The Upper Davies Creek campgrounds are well maintained but very hard to book for a weekend (6 months in advance through the website). Sites 2, 3 and 5 are the best for families with kids or groups of more than 4 people. Sites 7 and 8 are further down the end of the access road and feel like they are in a different landscape - much more temperate forest compared to bush land. Site 5 is my favourite to take the kids for a long weekend, plenty of space and great swimming area compared to 1, 4 and 6 which are farther from the creek, denser bush over the creek and take a bit of walking to get to. The day use areas are stunning and visitors should definitely take the easy walk to Bunda Dibandji rock art site. Other walks are around (Turtle Head Rock, Lambs Head..) but are a bit longer and harder - more suited to regular hikers etc. This is sacred women's/ birthing country of the Bulwuy people. Treat it with respect.See more..
A great park to visit not only for Whitehaven beach but also the hikes up to Hill Inlet and Solway Circuit Lookouts for stunning views across the bays and beaches. The climbs are quite steep but are manageable unless you suffer from mobility issues. Whilst hiking to the lookouts we managed to come across a couple of monitor lizards and a small snake! The beaches are stunning and the white sand so clean. Even had time to visit Tongue Point which overlooks Tongue Bay at the tip of the island.See more..

Along the way to waterfalls,u come a cross mud on the track,so be ready for fun Must keep the forest map with u, lots of water, first aid kit, snacks, tourch etc I suggest wear the pant not shorts bcz of leech, and full sleeves shirt. Its a challenging hike, but worh to visit.☘See more..
Alligator Creek (located in the Mt Elliot section of the park) is about 25 mins drive south of Townsville (turn right off the Highway) and is a perfect place for a tranquil picnic, walk & swim. There is a large day use area with signage and a short 10 minute walk gets you to the creek (via boardwalk). There are some nice places to swim (providing there has been recent rain) and some lovely views from the lookout which is also close to the car park (30 minutes/1km). I enjoyed both walks as well as a refreshing swim. There is a freshwater alligator in the creek but there’s a low chance of coming across him (or her) and there is no danger. If you feel adventurous or have the time there is a much longer hike (17 km, 5-6 hrs) to Alligator Creek Falls that I would like to try in the future.See more..
5.0Main Range National Park(25 reviews) - Loved the Cascade walk! Spent More than 3 hours National Parks
We did most of the trails in the National Park. The best walk by far was the Cascade trail. It was nothing short of amazing! Your shoes and socks will get wet walking through the shallow creeks. 4.5Byfield National Park(23 reviews) - Water Park National Parks • Nature & Wildlife Areas
We were staying at Yeppoon and decided to dive out to Upper Stony Creek and Water Park Creek to explore. At Water Park Creek there is both a day use picnic area and a camp ground. At the day use area there is the short Bowenia rainforest walking track. It is a lovely walk which meanders through lush forest, over the creek on a boardwalk, up a small hill and then returns as a loop. There are lots of interesting storyboards referring to the rainforest, vegetation and animal life. We saw and heard lots of birds including a Wompoo Fruit Dove. You cross Water Park Creek via a causeway. Be careful of traffic while walking across. At the causeway the creek has a weir built across it. In the evening light the reflections of the Paperbark trees is amazing. Nice spot to camp or visit.See more..

4.0Djiru National Park(20 reviews) - Licuala Fan Palm Walk National Parks • Nature & Wildlife Areas
I loved this walk but it’s through cassowary territory (I saw 2 fresh scats) so I was a bit trepidatious about disturbing one of these giant birds up close - hence I was a bit distracted during the walk! There are fan palms galore on the 1.2km walk (the orange fruit is eaten by the cassowary) and Mission Beach has 50% of the remaining fan palm forest in all of Australia. For this reason alone, the walk is worth seeking out. There is a nice boardwalk at the end and lots of interpretive signage explaining the plants & fauna. To get there, you take a short 1km drive on unsealed road off Tully-Mission Beach Rd into a beautiful secluded location. A short children’s walk is adjacent which includes some fake cassowary footprints & eggs!See more..

We loved Dunk Island I want to be clear on that, the but is because there is a large area of an old holiday resort currently left derelict from cyclone damage back in 2011 and it's not set to be repaired or demolished. It's heart breaking to see and something should be done to prevent further environment damage. Whinge over - the untouched parts of the island are gorgeous! Around every corner a treat and surprise - from a pelican bobbing around on the shoreline to beautiful shells on the beaches. We encountered all sorts of wild life and plants and really enjoyed the peace and quiet of exploring. We had a great lunch at the sunset cafe and whilst other reviews have complained about music noise and rudeness of staff we saw none of this, there was music but not over powering loud and it provide a back drop to lunch. The staff were really helpful to us and food lovely. We wished we had had longer to explore and enjoy all Dunk has to offer. Go - enjoy it - it's a real treat and I'm so glad we went! See more..
If you want to really get away from it all, go camp in the Simpson Desert. This is four-wheel drive only country and you need to be very well prepared with water, food and communications. We travelled 20-30kms west of Big Red (which is 40kms out of Birdsville?) to Eyre Creek. Eyre Creek is normally dry but it was a good base to go and visit Poeppel Corner (latitude 26° S and longitude 138° E) it is the corner state boundaries of Queensland, South Australia and the Northern Territory. Poeppel Corner is about 174 km west of Birdsville in the middle of the Simpson Desert. The desert is very isolated but also very beautiful.... an amazing part of Australia, and a wonder of nature.See more..
