We stayed nearby and visited the Juara Turtle Project. The set up is simple but the people working there are passionate and well-informed about the work they do to save these endangered animals. You can take a little tour of the place for a couple of ringgit. If you're lucky and you've come at the time when the eggs are about to hatch, there is the possibility to come back at night to see the little turtles make their way to the sea. At the end of the tour, you can watch two little films, which are very informative. We bought some small souvenirs at the end, just to support this great cause. The staff are also doing great work in trying to educate the locals about the plight of the turtles and get them to recycle glass/tins. They have placed recycling bins all over this side of the island. Well done and keep it going! Thank you! See more..
