    - The largest, longest and deepest underground tin mine in the world

In late March 2012 my wife and I visited the Sungai Lembing museum in Pahang, Malaysia. Sungai Lembing lies 42 km from Kuantan and is easily accessible on a surfaced road, provided one has private transport. For those without their own transport, buses or taxis start from Terminal Kuantan bus. The village currently has 1200 occupants but in its heyday when the mine was fully active had around 20,000. Although the village is somewhat rundown, with many shops closed on the main street, the museum that portrays the history of the mine, is outstanding and free of charge to visitors. The mine was operated by British companies for almost 100 years until its closure in 1986 when tin prices worldwide plummeted and the British company controlling the mine went into liquidation. Tunnels were built, mainly by hand, to a depth of 2000 ft and covered a total distance of 130 km. Although the tunnels cannot be visited as they are unsafe due to flooding and collapse, the museum exhibits tell everything one would like to know about the history and development of the mine with descriptions in both Malay and English. The museum which opens every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., is situated on a hilltop in what was the former mine manager's accommodation.Allow an hour to one hour and half to view the exhibits. There are a few local eating places in the village and some basic inexpensive accommodation for those who wish to stay overnight. See more..

Growing up in Pahang I have never known this state to have a museum that's with while visiting until this little gem had an upgrade and reopened its doors. The building has been beautifully restored and hopefully it will be well maintained. There are several rooms housing photos and artifacts from the state royal family. Other rooms cover a range of other subjects including traditional games, chins/porcelain, orang asli(native people), Islamic art, etc. The displays are all in good condition and there are a few interactive booths. I particularly enjoyed the one where you can play the different sounds of traditional musical instruments. There is a cafe called Kafe Belibis which serves traditional local Pahang dishes like ikan sungai gulai tempoyak, patin bakar pais and daging ketuk. Unfortunately we got there late and did not have the opportunity to sample any of these. The museum is closed on Mondays and on Hari Rayas. See more..

it is our first trip in Bentong and we have absolutely no idea about this place. We happened to walk into Bentong Gallery and were extremely impressed by Amy's excellent customer service. She was welcoming with warm smile and had answered all our queries satisfactorily. She listened to questions from all areas attentively and offered us with options for consideration. She served with patience and did not rush us off despite it was almost closing. She has brought us with extra knowledge and a huge thump up for her professionalism and we enjoyed her extra mile service. Well done Amy and Bentong is proud for having you! See more..

    3. We visited this type of museum before in they are all pretty much the same…3D Museums. They are fun for everyone and they even have a romantic charm to them. Make sure you bring a camera and fully charged battery, you might need an extra one too. You walk through a gallery of 3D art and you pose with them in order to get the 3D effect of being in the art itself. Make sure you devote at least 1-2 hours because there will be so many places to interact with the pictures that you will want to do them all…we skipped a few and still we were done in an hour. Take your time and don’t rush through the photo’s and use the suggested angels and directions they provide for each art piece. As you can see we had a lot of pictures and we still have a lot more, that we haven’t posted here.See more on our IG...check out our links in our profile. See more..
