Been coming here for a few years now. And love it at any time of the year. Summer months are best though. For rest and non, or few tourists, the other months are best. Many nature walks available, good for cycling, sailing, heading over to the island of Schiermonnikoog, birdwatching. So much to do. Also the area is one of 2 dark sky parks in the Netherlands, so good for some stargazing or astrophotography (with unobscured views) in otherwise very lightpolluted Netherlands. See more..

3.5Dinopark Landgoed Tenaxx(31 reviews) - Probably the only arboretum that you can visit as a family without boring your kids Spent 2-3 hours Amusement & Theme Parks
Tenaxx Estate is a beautiful park with woods and an arboretum (collection of trees) which specializes in weeping trees. In the woods you are confronted with life-size roaring dinosaurs. Kids can hunt smaller dino’s with a laser gun. Indoors you find the Dino-Experience, with replicas, skeletons and skulls of dinosaurs. Children can excavate the skeleton of a T-Rex. Tenaxx Estate has a survival run with various obstacles. Rowing boats are available on the pond.See more..
4.5Noorderplantsoen Park(31 reviews) - Noorderplantsoen; a large spacious 19th century park dating from 1879-1881 Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent 2-3 hours Parks
Noorderplantsoen is the largest park in central Groningen and the mature trees and small hills make it a scenic place to enjoy nature in the city.A very popular place when the sun comes out.See more..
Smaller than your average zoo, but guaranteed entertainment for young children. Lots of places to climb and to discover. The large collection of owls Yes and wild birds of prey pleasantly surprised us. We liked most that you could get close to the animals, if felt more casual than bigger zoos. Recommended to go early to beat the crowds. One point of improvement, the food in the restaurant was not great, but for a small place with limited facilities this is to be expected.See more..
Although Arboretum Notoarestoen is renowned for his large collection of rhododendrons, this tranquil park is also beatiful "off-season", being easily accessible for everyone. At the borders of the park you may have beautiful views of the Groningen "hogeland", i.e., the northernmost part of the province, almost fully dedicated to agriculture.See more..
4.0Natuurpark De Noorderriet(1 review) - Nature to compensate for harm Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Biking Trails • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Parks Since the 1990s "Northern reed" offers a pleasant distraction from the flat agricultural land. Forest and scrub, water, meadows and swampy spaces are ideal for strolling around. For cyclists it is a pleasant alternative for going from Kommerzijl to Grijpskerk or vice versa. I understood from locals that the creation of this nature park is a gesture from the local authorities to compensate for the NAM company's industrial activity (storing gas) in the area. The disruption underground by the NAM had probably more nasty consequences for the Groninger population than what happened above ground. Quakes as a result of pumping the gas away have caused major damage to houses and wellbeing.See more..
