4.0Martinitoren(724 reviews) - Recommended, but necessary to buy on-line tickets in advance Architectural Buildings
It turns out that you no longer can get coins at the VVV to climb up the Martinitoren . You now can only reserve on-line. There are a few tours a day with limited capacity, so it is necessary to reserve timely, especially if you want to go up in the weekend. We got a time slot for 10 am on Sunday morning. It was early and bad weather. However still worth doing the climb. The tour guide explains about the tower at the various stops during the climb (255 steps), which was interesting. We recommend a visit.See more..

4.5Forum Groningen(148 reviews) - The cultural hotspot of Groningen Wednesday: 9:00 AM - 12:00 AM Spent 1-2 hours Movie Theaters • Architectural Buildings • Libraries
Another eye-catching building is added to the skyline of Groningen's historic city centre. Forum Groningen, open since november 2019, was designed by Amsterdam-based NL Architects for the City of Groningen. It covers a surface area of 17,000 m2 on ten floors, is open seven days a week and hosts a diverse array of activities around one coherent ambition: explore the world, discover the future. Forum Groningen's ambition is to let today's world and tomorrow's opportunities inspire the residents and visitors of Groningen. It hopes to achieve this with international exhibitions, film and literature festivals, as well as courses, workshops and talks. Forum Groningen challenges the public to keep an open mind while exposing them to the latest social and technological developments. To this end, the Forum hosts exhibitions and has the interactive Storyworld museum, five cinemas, a multi-purpose events venue, the city library, study and work places, a Medialab and a Smartlab.See more..
4.5Menkemaborg(64 reviews) - Lovely historical building, beautifully decorated, in a large garden Speciality Museums • Architectural Buildings
We visited this site a few times, every time we enjoyed our visit very much. It is a beautiful furnished mansion, in the East-Northern part of Holland in the village of Uithuizen, called a 'Borg" with a lovely garden surrounded by a moat. You get a very good impression of life here in the 18th century. There are a number of rooms to visit with description. There is also an old stable which is turned into a restaurant, very cosy. Including a drink or lunch in the restaurant, the mansion and garden a visit takes about 2,5 hours. Admission fee is € 7,50 p.p.See more..
4.0Korenbeurs Groningen(52 reviews) - Two birds with one stone Spent < 1 hour Architectural Buildings
The location of the Albert Heijn supermarket at the Vismarkt (fish market) has been cleverly chosen by the largest supermarket chain in the Netherlands. The store is located in the Korenbeurs, the old corn exchange. It is a wonderful location right in the center and a really beautiful building. Two birds with one stone, so it can remain preserved and used in a good way. It's an asset to the city and its residents and an easy convenient store.See more..
I had three almhouses on my list ,I discovered the Holy Spirit hospice on Polsterstraat ,not very far from the centre ,In fact I was looking for Paperstraat ,but I lost my way . The hospice was founded in the 13 th century by the Orde van de Helige Geest ,order of the Holy Spirit, their symbol is the double St Andrew's cross ,it can be seen in several places. The hospice took care of sick old people ,poor and elderly .There is an old church there ,but it was closed .The big complex is built around three courtyards where I met old people sitting in front of their door ,enjoying the sun ,they were very kind and I asked permission to take photos.Visit this unique guest house ,it is another mirror of the historic past ...See more..
4.5Sint Anthonygasthuis(10 reviews) - A charming inner courtyard in a 500 years old hospice Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings
I always liked the almhouses from Holland ,after Harlem I put some more new hofjes on my touristic map ,being attracted by these small oases of peace and idyllic atmosphere. I discovered the old monumental gate of St Anthony Gasthuis just in front of the police. The hospice established in 1517 was originally located outside the city walls ,it was a home not only for poor people ,but also for plague suffers and mentally ill people.I was there at the weekend ,there was nobody in the green courtyard ,I didn't disturb anybody .At the entrance I could read on a wall ,that you can buy a jubilee book about the complex of buildings ,500 years old ,it is unbelievable.See more..

3.5Mariakerk(2 reviews) - 13th Century Church Wednesday: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings • Churches & Cathedrals
Mariakerk (Maria church) of Oosterwijtwerd is one of the oldest brick churches in the province of Groningen. It looks like a small church but when you walk in the graveyard and around the church, it is quite a big church for this small village. It was not open at the time we're there.See more..

Mooie kerk!See more..
