4.5Veenkoloniaal Museum(102 reviews) - Great exhibitions Wednesday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites • Monuments & Statues • History Museums
I'm not informed if there is such thing as prize given to the best museum in NL, but Veenkoloniaal Museum Veendam is Nr.1 at least on my list. In respect to permanent collection many museums do excell, but Veenkoloniaal is exceptional in well thought out and executed shoert term exhibitions. Kudos goes to the one and only Mr. Riga (director of museum Hendrik Andries Hachmer). Recommended without reservations!See more..
4.0Muzeeaquarium Delfzijl(49 reviews) - Very good and not expensive Spent 1-2 hours Natural History Museums • Aquariums
The museum itself makes use of a old German war time bunker for keeping the aquarium and its contents at a constant temperature and is a brilliant use of something for which it was not intended. The museum was educational and we found the kids were interested in all aspects of the maritime history. For a small museum it is well worth the entrance fee and we found the man in charge to be very helpful and interesting to speak to, as really on a Sunday there is not much open to help tourists. He guided us to Appingden which was a wonderful place to eat outside in the sunshine. Unfortunately we was unable to get parked anywhere near to the Folk Festival that he had recommended to us.See more..
De rondleiding is geweldig boeiendSee more..
4.5Museum Nienoord(13 reviews) - Carriages and more Spent 2-3 hours History Museums
Nienoord is one of the many borgen in the province of Groningen. With its yellow walls it looks quite atypical. The main attraction here is the carriage museum, which can be visited with a guide every hour. There are some royal and one imperial carriages. The more mundance exemplars include sleds, without wheels, and many other rare old means of transport. One of them is still used every year by the students of Vindicat. The borg has a nice upper level with a large painting on a wooden wall. In the main building there are more carriages and an exhibition of some funny paintings by one painter (I didn't get the name).See more..
4.0Klooster-wandeling Aduard(8 reviews) - a step back into the history of the Aduard Monastery/Cloister Spent < 1 hour History Museums This is a 2 kilometer walk through the small town of Aduard. The town is famous for the Aduard Monastery. If you download a 3D app and point your device to one of seven digital poles on the route you get a digitized view of how the historic grounds of the Aduard Monastery used to look. There are eleven metal information posters along the route that tell you more about the history. The walk starts in front of the Bernardushof Kloostermuseum Aduard (but it is not part of the museum itself; there is no fee to walk the route:-)See more..
De gids die ons rondleide was erg enthousiast en zeer gedetailleerd op de hoogte van de geschiedenis.See more..
5.0Museum Stoomgemaal Winschoten(2 reviews) Spent < 1 hour History Museums Of the hundreds of steam pumping stations that once kept the Netherlands dry, nine have been preserved. The Stoomgemaal Winschoten Museum takes a unique position here as a pumping steam pumping station. It is the only one of the approximately 120 steam pumping stations in the province of Groningen that has been preserved. The steam pumping station was put out of operation in 1971 because the HungeSee more..
4.0Abel Tasman Museum(1 review) - Interesting memorials of Abel Tasman Wednesday: Spent < 1 hour History Museums
During our visit to New Zealand we have seen the Tasman Memorial near Abel Tasman National Park. Interested in the life of Abel Tasman, who was the first European who discovered New Zealand, we visited his birth town Lutjegast. In this village we ‘discovered’ three places where Abel Tasman is commemorated. First of all we saw the plaque erected by the Government of Tasmania in memory of the discovery of Tasmania in 1642. This plaque is fixed on the wall, on the left side of the main gate of the old Church, Abel Tasmanweg 75. Near the Church, along the road, is a large commemorative sign about the life and journeys of Abel Tasman. Secondly we visited a monument near a pond on the corner of the Kompasstraat and Rikkerdastraat. This monument, called Terra Incognita, with a pond with the shape of the coastal line of a part of New Zealand, is easy to find. Near the monument is a plaque that says: “From the government and people of New Zealand in commemoration of the 350th anniversary of the charting of New Zealand by Abel Janszoon Tasman”. Thirdly, near the pond, is a small Abel Tasman museum. Unfortunately it was after closing time of the museum that we visited Lutjegast, so we can’t give an impression of this museum. Summarized (and especially if you are e.g. from New Zealand or Australia), if you are in this part of the Netherlands and are interested in Abel Tasman as navigator, it is worthwhile to visit this village.See more..
