Wow! Such an incredible zoo. So many things to see it takes all day. My only suggestion for improvement would be for them to charge more for the tickets. Costs only 500 Yen --should be 3 or 4 times that for what they offer as well as numerous maintenance projects could be completed with the extra funds. Overall, I highly recommend this place. Lots of walking (so be warned) as this is a huge property.See more..

The reason why we are in Izu even! It's to see the capybaras upfront & pet them! Which we did!! The family of 4 in the large enclosure are perfectly used to being manhandled by humans. There was a capybara onsen somewhere else but there was only 1 guy sitting in there & you couldn't get near him. There were a a few interesting primate species on islands in a small "river" & you can get in a boat to see them. Also llamas, tapirs, peacocks & parrots but the stars are the capys definitely.
