Built under Emperor Domitian towards the end of the 1st century CE it is a vast games extent. Horse racing and other races took place in front of spectators numbering around twenty thousand. It continued to host games until the 5th century. We are fortunate that it is so well preserved. Walking around some of the excavated circuits is testament to its size in its heyday. Many artefacts from the time are displayed. Statuary, sarcophagi and other funerary items are great; a funerary stela has a legend known as the Eutyches Inscriptions. Ascending to the top level we had tremendous vistas over the city including fine panoramas of the Cathedral.See more..
