Murallas de Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain

4.5 (632 reviews) Spent Ranking #7 in Province of Tarragona Ancient Ruins

Beautiful walk above the city

Great place for a quiet walk amongst the historic walls. Best to go in the evening or early morning in the heat, due to the Spanish heat.

    Nice walk
Worth doing for sure. The info panels are informative and the views of the mountains are great (although hard to get a good picture of... Just enjoy). If you come in by train and are doing all the must-do things, do this before going to the cathedral. You go uphill and at the end you just have to keep to the right to get to the Cathedral. If you do the Cathedral first, you will end up walking up hill twice (speaking from experience...).

    Extensive Roman walls
Don't be misled by the name (like we were!) there are no murals here! Instead you get magnificent Roman and Medieval walls and gates. An easy, though uphill, walk and some signs and info boards. The site has the oldest Roman gateway outside Italy. Well worth a visit and at the end you end up in the Old Town by the cathedral.
