    Elliott Museum image
What diverse collections! We loved learning about Sterling Elliott's inventions and ingenuity. The car collection, Wow! Speaking with the creator of the James Bond boat made from Grumman aircraft scraps was unforgettable. The local Bonnie and Clyde: John of the Ashley Gang and Laura Upthegrove were amazing, but listening to the volunteer's stories about his life experience in Stuart was spectacular. The 2nd largest collection of signed baseball memorabilia outside of Cooperstown. We enjoyed learning more about Frances Langford; we've seen her in old films on TV. How on earth did they hang the aircraft? Then the General Store was so intriguing. What a visit!!! See more..
  7. 4.5 Bathtub Reef Beach (554 reviews)
    - Perfect spot for young children
    Beaches
    Bathtub Reef Beach image
Perfect for small children. The rocks break the waves and create like a pool of shallow water. It is absolutely perfect for young children to play in less than a foot of water. For adults that wish to snorkel or dive, go out beyond the ‘breakers’. If I had a raft, I would have laid out in this calm water for the day, and probably fried. There are lifeguards. This location has restrooms. Free too, no parking meters. See more..

Awesome Trails for People and their Dogs! I love to meet up with our friends and their dogs at Halpatiokee Park to enjoy a long trail walk during the cooler Florida months. It is a blast for us and our dogs. You can do a short trail or a long trail. We usually walk about 90 minutes because we are having so much fun. The park even supplies poop bags and a garbage can at the beginning of the trail area in case you forgot yours. Even though we bring water for the dogs, they do have a hose at the closest pavillion near the trail. It is a big park with many other recreational options that includes clean bathrooms that are located at the entrance and in another area of the park. ENJOY! See more..

  13. 4.5 St. Lucie Lock and Dam (44 reviews)
    - Great Place to Watch a Variety of Boats Use the Locks System
Spent < 1 hour Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas
St. Lucie Lock and Dam image
We came to the St. Lucie Lock & Dam w/ another couple who has been here before. I was absolutely fascinated as to how the boats come into a lock. The boat come in @ a lower water level, the lock closes, and then the locks fills up w/ water to raise the water level so that the boat can easily continue on its journey. This is something that children would love to see as well as adults. There is no cost & you are able to walk all around the area. The Core of Engineer Campground is right next to this & we checked it out since we are also RVers. This is a great day trip to pack a lunch. You can sit & watch all kinds of boats go through the lock system. I would recommend this experience to the young & old @ heart. Great learning experience! See more..
