Dog Friendly Trails
Awesome Trails for People and their Dogs! I love to meet up with our friends and their dogs at Halpatiokee Park to enjoy a long trail walk during the cooler Florida months. It is a blast for us and our dogs. You can do a short trail or a long trail. We usually walk about 90 minutes because we are having so much fun. The park even supplies poop bags and a garbage can at the beginning of the trail area in case you forgot yours. Even though we bring water for the dogs, they do have a hose at the closest pavillion near the trail. It is a big park with many other recreational options that includes clean bathrooms that are located at the entrance and in another area of the park. ENJOY!

I shouldn't be telling you about this place
Halpat is THE place to go for off-road cycling and kayaking in Martin County. There are miles of reasonably wide (but sometimes flooded or sandy) trails to allow side-by-side cycling, hiking or dog walking, and even more miles of single track cycling trails that wind through the jungle. Trail access is easy from paved parking lots. Kayaking on the South St. Lucie River is fun for all ages. The river runs flat most of the time (except there is tidal influence so you may notice the current) unless there has been heavy rain the day or two before. The kayak route is about 3.5 miles one way to a picnic facility. Paddle time up and back is about 4 hours. Usually plenty of gators to be seen on the river except during the coldest part of winter. Manatees, lots of turtles, great blue herons, and jumping mullet also to be seen in the river. Gopher tortoises, raccoons, and armadillos to be seen in the jungle. Sandhill Cranes often wander around the grassy areas of the park. Kayak, canoe and bike rentals from a merchant near the park entrance. There is also a network of ponds accessible from just behind the tennis courts. These ponds are great for fun with an inflatable rubber raft. The park is very popular on weekends, so better wildlife encounters during the week. Also, since I-95 is adjacent to the park on the West side, there can be noticeable freeway noise if the wind is out of the West.

100% for the outdoor person
This is one of my favorite local parks. I kayak, bike ride and walk the well marked paths in this park. There is plenty of parking and the park is well maintained. There are real easy bike paths and much more difficult ones. Bring plenty of water there is no where to buy water at the park. I can spend hours here great place to get back to nature.
