St. Lucie Lock and Dam image
We came to the St. Lucie Lock & Dam w/ another couple who has been here before. I was absolutely fascinated as to how the boats come into a lock. The boat come in @ a lower water level, the lock closes, and then the locks fills up w/ water to raise the water level so that the boat can easily continue on its journey. This is something that children would love to see as well as adults. There is no cost & you are able to walk all around the area. The Core of Engineer Campground is right next to this & we checked it out since we are also RVers. This is a great day trip to pack a lunch. You can sit & watch all kinds of boats go through the lock system. I would recommend this experience to the young & old @ heart. Great learning experience! See more..

Really enjoyed our stay at the campground water facing spot #2. Easy biking. Great access to kayak, paddle board, boating. Cool front hit right when we arrived and Us Floridians are just not good with the cold so we enjoyed the close proximity to shops and beach front activities. There is something for everyone to do. Unique in the area; hiking amidst pines and cacti and palms in areas of sand or dirt surfaces. The recent trip had pine smells so luscious, you felt you were in Northern Wisconsin instead of Florida. Flowering cacti when we were there was beautiful. Wildlife included tortoises and many birds, big and small See more..
