    Anitkabir image
A great monument/tomb to the former president that did great things for his country. Well laid out buildings to guide you through the process, like everywhere in Turkey you have to go through security scanning of all bags etc. You can take photos and enjoy the venue, fairly easy to get to from most areas of Ankara. 2. 5.0 II. Türkiye Büyük Millet Meclisi Cumhuriyet Müzesi (128 reviews)
    - The second Turkish Parliament
    History Museums
II. Türkiye Büyük Millet Meclisi Cumhuriyet Müzesi image
This review is a continuation from my first Parliament review, on TA named as "1. TBMM Kurtulus Savasi Muzesi", which is 100 m up the street. To better understand, I advise visiting this after the first Parliament - the same ticket of 3-4 Euros is valid for both. This edifice was primary built for the Republican People's party, but was converted into a Parliament and served for that purpose 1924-1960. On the lower floor is the big assembly room with Ataturk vax figure on the balcony. The upper floor has offices of the President, Prime minister, clerks and a guest meeting room. Count on 30-45 min for your visit. See more..

    Bodies of Water
    Lake Tuz image
A little far from Cappadocia, we went on a tour. In the summer, the scenery is almost completely white with salt. We walked to the back and finally got to the place where a little water remained. Depending on the time of year, you can take a mirrored photo like Uyuni salt lake. See more..

    Nallıhan Bird Sanctuary image
We stopped here on a scenic route from Bolu to Göreme. The drive from Bolu to here is absolutely amazing and recommended for those with enough time to kill as the scenes of nature change vastly and quickly (and the little villages on the way are a sight to see!). The bird sanctuary itself was lovely (albeit hot, even on an otherwise chilly May day) and I was surprised at how many birds we spotted there. See more..

  25. 4.5 Şeyh Ali Semerkandi Türbesi (27 reviews)
    - New museums added...
    Religious Sites
    Şeyh Ali Semerkandi Türbesi image
Forget about Semerkandi Turbesi...since my last visit a few little museums have been added. At the entrance there is a small "café" with little stalls showing old skills and selling old fashioned sweets...There is also a tea shop where you can have a "simit" of excellent "pogaca" with your tea. A big nice play garden for the children down in the valley... In front of the turbe there is now a "toy museum" housed in a few train wagons... Wonderful place for young and old... "Yok yok" as they say in Turkish...tin toys, horses, dolls, prams, cars, doll houses (my favorites)... you name it, it's there! Down in the village a new small museum added: all kind of scales... very interesting. And don't forget the walk in the forests.. Recommended ... excellent place to visit for people living in boring Ankara! See more..

  27. 4.5 Gordion (25 reviews)
    - Informative and worth the visit
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Gordion image
Driving towards the museum of Gordion and the tomb of the Phyrigian King Gordios you will see many burial mounds. This is the area where Alexander the Great came to cut the famous Gordion knot. The museum succeeds in portraying the history of that area and the displays are really good. Across the road from the museum you can enter the tomb which is really fascinating. The nearest big town is Polatli but we stayed in Ankara and made the trip for the day which was really easy. From Ankara's main bus station we took a bus with Baysal Turizm to Polatli. The ticket can be bought at ticket office 28 and is 10 Turkish Lire. The trip to Polatli is about one hour and from there we took a Taxi for the last 18km as there is no minibuses to Gordion. The Taxi asked 80 Turkish Lire and waited for an hour for us. Really off the beaten track but worth a visit. See more..
