   This is an unusual place where you sleep in small stone houses. While the overall comfort is minimal due to the fact it's a stone house, they go out of their way to make your stay pleasant. The place is located on top of a hill giving you amazing views throughout (sunrise, sunset, stargazing). The staff is Tunisian with varying language skills but the friendliness makes up for any sort of issue. Overall an amazing stay!     We knocked on the door passed 4 pm. He had closed his space as the weather was iffy. But he opened it all up again for us. A specialist in recycled objects, Mr. Jilani, a well-known international artist, has made his home a gem. The garden is decorated with painted doors and artifacts he wroked on. He has a cafeteria there. And inside, underground, it is Ali Baba's cave. Treasures of works from him. All from recycled jewelry to reused wood and glass. Everything you can think of, he has. And he can produce things for you. He painted with a few master brush roles a sea scene in Djerba, in front of our very impressed eyes. And he has interesting conversation. You can sit in a cosy salon space there too, and talk about art, Jerba and the world Spend 2 hours there with a native Djerbian who is a credit to his island.     Yay this is the second attraction Tripadvisor has listed in Djerba following my suggestion. Amazing since this place appears in lots of books and websites about Tunisia. It's not the easiest place to find, half way up a hill out of Guellala. It's a set of buildings that look like they're made from pottery, presumably the non-perfect vases are used in construction. It has quite good views of the surrounding area from behind the shop. First they take you down a candle lit cave which the guide books say dates back to Roman times. Here you can extract some clay from the cave walls. They then show you how to turn your clay into a small piece of pottery. You can then browse the pottery shop and feed the baby camel outside! This is a free attraction and whilst they are open to haggling, the shop prices are not outrageous so we just bought something full price and gave them change as a tip.     This is a charming abandoned mosque just outside Guelalla and people tend to call it 'the mosque by the sea' locally, due to the fact that it's right on the beach! Incidentally the Sidi Yati beach is meant to be one of the Djerba's finest. In the middle of nowhere, it looks attractive from all angles and has several rooms you can explore. There was some evidence that local kids hang out there, we came across some and they were all pretty shy and permissive. The sea views were incredible and I wish I'd had more time to spend there.     This fort has good parking and has Great Views from its ramparts and costs 10 TND to enter for non Tunisians There is a lot of walking inside and it is not very accessible for the disabled visitor due to its age but has handrails around for other visitors for Health & Safety - something that has only been brought into place in recent years in Tunisia A largish fort inside so will take up to 1 hour if you don’t rush too much and take your time - see added photos of relics and previous monuments No details or explanation plaques in place and little English spoken at the cash desk which is something that they need to improve on Try a trip to the museum at the same time - not too far away - see separate review Recommended Enjoy See more..
