   Red Lizard Train, Metaloui, Tunisia Formerly the royal train, exclusively for the whim of the ruling Bey, the Red Lizard is a four-coach excursion from the bustling market town of Metaloui into the lower reaches of the Atlas Mountains. For two hours, from a 1000 departure, you can relax in opulent style as you climb above the desert below. A powerful diesel engine ensures a steady climb, to the possible regret of steam enthusiasts. However, the metre-gauge line is spectacular enough to soothe even that minor disappointment. Turn up early enough (the train is marshalled about an hour before departure) and, if you ask nicely, you may even get a chance of a photograph on the footplate.    A very small, basic museum. Signage is adequate, but just barely. There are three or four good mosaics, but clearly the best objects were taken to Tunis or Paris or London or wherever, and not left here. I think the entry fee was 5 TND (~€1.50). No bathroom, but there is a cafe just outside next to the old Roman baths. You can spend maybe 20 minutes in there. Contains some stone age objects and some Roman objects, nothing from the post-Roman period and nothing pre-Roman post-stone age. See more..
