- 4.5 L'aqueduc de Zaghouan (33 reviews)
-From Temple des Eaux to Oudna and Cartage
Historic Sites
First we visited the Temple des Eaux on the mountain Jebel Zaghouan. This construction gathered the streams and organized a steady flow. Big tubes leads the water on to the aquaduct. We followd it by the highway to Tunis. Stopped at Oudna, the ruins of a large roman city with a great capitol and a big amphiteater, public baths, roman villas etc. We were the only tourists here. Later to Cartage where the acuaduct brought water to the great roman baths of Anthoius Pios. See more..
- 4.5 Thuburbo Majus (29 reviews)
-Should get more tourists
Ancient Ruins
This Roman city might not be as big or imposing as Dougga, but has a lot to offer. Temples, baths, markets and houses have not survived as complete, but it compensate the visit with many mosaics. It’s hard to understand how tourists can just walk on top of the mosaics, but the site has not been properly taken care of. Grass is growing between the rocks and trash dotted the entire site. The information panels on each building were blank, but a staff of technicians were instaling spot lights. Worst of all, my husband and I were the only tourists there. I´ve seen pictures of Petronio´s Palestra before the intervention, and it looked much more beautiful. I understand the need of structural reinforcement, but I wish they had built something less invasive. Now, it´s like a smile with brackets! See more..
