Vanxai helped us to organize our stay in Luang Namtha considering our desires, our budget, and the possible options in dry season. We visited the morning market, very nice and colorful. Then we spent a very good day kayaking on the Namtha River, which runs along the ZNP. The jungle on the right bank is impressive. In dry season it is an easy course, the water is calm, we paddled 18km. Our guides were very friendly, the meal in front of the fire at the edge of the river was delicious. We were able to visit or see the local villages, and met some fishermen or locals who were spending time at the water's edge. I highly recommend Laos Discovery for kayaking in Luang Namtha. 3. 5.0 Luang Namtha Valley Route (4 reviews)
    - Nice bike ride
    Self-Guided Tours & Rentals
    Luang Namtha Valley Route image
Really nice bike ride that took me around four hours with stops. I used a regular city bike and didn't face any challenges but found that I needed to refer to Google maps to make sure I was on the route. I went to see Nam Dee Waterfall and the village across from the bamboo bridge separately. If you want to start early, rent a bike the night before. See more..
  4. 5.0 Kao Rao Cave (1 review)
    - Large cave! You cannot enter without the guide.
    Saturday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Caverns & Caves
    Kao Rao Cave image
Exploring this cave takes circa one hour. The entry fee is 10,000 kip and you cannot enter it without the guide that you should hire elsewhere. I admired amazing stalagmites and other rock formations. The cave is very large and does not have lightning, you need to bring your own torch. The deeper you go, the narrower it gets. You need to climb it at certain point. Sometimes slippery. I was accompanied by Mr. Somhak, the guide from Nam Ha Hill Tribe Eco-Trek. Thanks to him, I did not get lost ! haha! See more..

    Forest Retreat Laos image
We had a very good experience with Forest Retreat on a 4 days, 3 nights trek around Luang Namtha. The company was good to make an individual designed trip that could match the trekking level of our 3 children (6, 8 and 11). We had 3 days og trekking and one day of calm and beautiful kayaking. We slept 2 nights in small Village at homestays and one night in a jungle camp. We highly recommend our guide, Tour (og Toua?), he is very friendly and calm and speaks very good english. And he makes very good, Fresh and healthy jungle food. Remember warm clothes for the nights ind the jungle (especially in January where we went there), and sandals/flip flops to cross rivers. All our best recommendations from Rasmus, Marie and family See more..

    The Hiker image
My wife and I did the the 3D/2N Wild Thrills trek and it was a fantastic experience. Our wonderful guide Mun began by taking us to the amazing local market where we stocked up on beautifully fresh fish and vegetables. Mun would turn out to be a superb cook. The first day took us through superb jungle landscapes to our first night in a bamboo shelter. It was surprisingly comfortable and after a stunning meal prepared by Mun we both slept really well. Listening to the sounds of the jungle as from our cosy shelter was a wonderful experience. Mun led us the next day along some more very pretty trails to our next night at a homestay. The village is beautiful, the people very friendly and - again- the food was great. The last day took us through stands of massive trees back to the road. Mun was full of useful information and great company throughout the three days. We thoroughly recommend this trek. We’ll remember it for a long time! See more..

    - Beautiful and informative hiking tour with Somhak

Nam Ha Hill Tribe Eco-Trek image
Please make sure to contact Somhak only over the website linked on this tripadvisor page or the phone number listed here. Other companies claim to do trekking tours with him as a guide but this is not true! Somhak is an amazing and wonderful person. He speaks English very well and knows so much about the culture, the tribes, nature and animals. A trekking tour with him is just beautiful, informative and worth time and money. You will learn so much. He is also very flexible, if you are not that trained in hiking you can do an easy 1-day trip. If you are a good hiker expect getting off the beaten track. We decided to do a 2 day trek with a overnight stay in a village. Me and my girlfriend were alone with Somhak and we enjoyed it so much. See more..
  9. 4.5 Vat Xieng Chai (3 reviews)
    - An astonishing temple
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Vat Xieng Chai image
Constructed toward the end of the 19th Century, this temple is located in the northern part of the town, not far from the morning market. Its buildings have a very attractive exterior, with multi-tiered roofs, and decoration in rust-red and gold shades. But wait until you enter the main sanctuary. Over the length of the main aisle and in front of the long-earlobe Buddha, a forest of banners hang from the ceiling, weaved with colourful fabrics and containing prayers. The walls all around are decorated with religious scene paintings. The red columns bear delicate silver laces. Lots of details that attract your eyes, and a mystic atmosphere for meditation. This temple gathers the Thai Lü community in the neighbourhood, one among the 50+ ethnic groups living in Laos. See more..
  10. 4.5 The Handicraft Village Ban Pieng Ngam (2 reviews)
    - Weaving Demo, Lovely Textiles!
Saturday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Neighborhoods
The Handicraft Village Ban Pieng Ngam image
I had an interesting stop at the Phieng Ngam Handicraft Center to learn about and shop for weaving products from the Tai Dieng tribe. The center is about 10mins away from the airport, in the middle of rice fields. You may opt to visit the center via a push bike, motorcycle or a private car. There’s a weaving demonstration from a local woman who showed the intricacies of using both silk and cotton in making the textiles. Scarves, skirts, table linens, etc. can cost from 50,000 to 180,000 kip which is quite reasonable and better quality compared to the exorbitant prices at the local markets in town. It opens from 8am to 6pm. Please visit the Phieng Ngam Handicraft Center and support the community-based livelihood program directly benefitting the locals. I bought 5 beautiful scarves and linens for souvenirs! By the way, the facility has improved a lot compared to the photos featured in this page. See more..

    - The perfect jungle and village experience

    Into the Wild Namtha image
I dont know about the negative reviews there. We were 6 people, me and 4 Israeli and a British/Italian. Our guide Air was absolutely amazing, he built a shelter for us from banana leaves and cutting trees, his cooking skills were out of this world. We ate laos cuisine from bamboo plates and cups made in the jungle in front of hs, drank lao lao, bathed in a perfect waterfall and visited an amazing village with a stunning view and great locals in a 2 nights 3 days trek. They were totally professional. When I returned Seng helped me go to the bus station. It was the best jungle experience I had. Air is the best guide with perfect english. he even thought me some kung fu he learned in Laos army. he is very knowledgable. thaml you all See more..
  12. 4.0 Nam Ha NPA (17 reviews)
    - Nice place where to find adventure!
Spent More than 3 hours National Parks • Forests
    Nam Ha NPA image
The Nam Ha NPA is wild! One of the last spots in SEAsia where to have real fun and observe primary forest. Just... Be Careful! Most of the companies will lie to you and tell you that they will bring you here... it is not true! You will see rubber trees all along the way. Make sure that you book with the good companies: Avoid those with bad reviews / bad previous experiences. Cheap price means that they save money: Save money in security, in local guides, in food, in keeping the trials operative (=paying the local villagers to clean them!). Make the right choice: Do not support scammers. Few dollars make a big difference in Laos. See more..

  14. 3.5 Nam Dee Waterfall (25 reviews)
    - It's all about the journey
Saturday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Waterfalls
    Nam Dee Waterfall image
About 6 km northeast of the town centre, the Lao Huay (Lenten) village of Ban Nam Dee (Good water) is a good place to observe the progress of bamboo papermaking. Behind the village you will see the entrance to the Nam Dee Waterfall. The area around the waterfall offers good facilities, like a small handicraft shop managed by the villagers; toilets and a house for picnics, etc. See more..

Built in 2004, this stunning stupa sits atop a hill above Luang Namtha Town. It’s easy to access from the north end of town along the Valley Loop bike ride or you could take a tuktuk from town. A festival takes place here every December on full-moon day to celebrate The stupa. Behind the stupa you’ll see the big reclining Buddha. See more..
  16. 3.0 Khmmu Tribe Discovery (13 reviews)
    - Overall a valuable and rewarding experience
Hiking Trails • Kayaking & Canoeing
    Khmmu Tribe Discovery image
Our guide Kam was friendly and spoke English, told us old Laos stories, cooked us dinner in Bamboo which was good, and we stayed in a dilapidated shack. The problem with most tourists is they are expecting way too much. The hike was beautiful, the villages were interesting, and it was a nice two day one night trek around the protected area. We did not do kayaking as if you have half a brain you would understand that it is dry season so low rivers. See more..

You will find a variety of artifacts collected from over 17 ethnic communities in the province. Of particular interest is the extensive collection of indigenous clothing, as well as agricultural tools and household equipment. There is an excellent collection of Buddha images, bronze drums, ceramics and textiles. Also, of the traditional handmade weapons that used for hunting and national defense. See more..
