The service was seamless crossing the border not having to worry about the bags and the trip down the Mekong was relaxing and quite scenic. The food was prepared by the captain wife and was very yummy. Our guide La was very informative and great to get to know his country . See more..

    - Jungle getaway that exceeded expectations

    The Gibbon Experience image
Friendly knowledgeable guides who spoke good English and the tree huts were clean and spacious. We always had way too much food for our group of 6 and the sticky rice was amazing. We always felt safe and the zip line system seemed pretty foolproof. The mosquito nets were very heavy and thick and made sleeping under a little stuffy so I simply poked my head out into the fresh air all night … didn’t even hear a mosquito all trip See more..

Very relaxing experience from Huay Xai to Luang Prabang, well worth the money! The views are amazing. We had a fantastic English speaking guide that took us to two separate villages (Whiskey & Weaving) and the Pak Ou caves. Food on board was to die for! We are now in love with Khaipen. The overnight stay at Pakbeng was nice, we had an explore of the night market and then had food & drinks with the tour group. This was a well needed chill coming straight out of The Gibbon Experience! Highly recommend! See more..
  4. 4.5 Project Kajsiab Laos (30 reviews)
    - A good experience, not sure how helpful it is
Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Project Kajsiab Laos image
Cultural Exchange & Volunteering, Women's Workplace, Shelter for Care and Informal Education, Woman Empowerment shop, Restaurant & Homestay run by the Mountain people.Kajsiab is a local Lao-Hmong community initiative, located northern Laos, Bokeo Province aiming to empower the local economy and improve the well being of the Lao mountain people in a meaningful way. Be aware that this place is not a fairytale, it is a tough place where people are learning to become self sustainable and overcome their past trauma. Children get personal care and education in the local way, which is not a travellers way. Open your mind and realize that you will see a screenshot of some people who have a whole lifetime of moments to learn and heal. What you see here is not only a result of our work, it is most of all the process during our work.Your being here helps the people to be proud of their work and helps the project to become fully self sustainable and independent of rules and funding abroad. Wat Chomkao Manilat image
Visitors need to walk a flight of stairs uphill to reach this lovely temple. The front facade of this temple overlooks the mighty Mekong River and also Thailand on the other side of the river border. A good place to visit in the tranquil town of Huay Xai. See more..
  6. 3.0 Fort Carnot (4 reviews)
    - Only if you like abandoned places

This place gets 4 stars from me only because I wanted to photograph an abandoned fort which looks like it's haunted. If you want to eat and shop, or are scared of ghosts then this is not the place for you. See more..
  7. 2.0 Donsao Market (3 reviews)
    - Don't expect much.
Sunday: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Flea & Street Markets

Like others have said. This is only to say you "went to Laos". There is shopping but everything is knockoff. Just about everything here you can find in Thailand for cheaper. I did have to buy a bottle of "whiskey" that has a cobra snake and scorpion in the bottle. This is just as a display/conversation piece and not to drink. There are all kinds of poor kids with their hands out for money as you get off the boat so be prepared for that. We had no problem giving the kids a few dollars. You can use USD there as well. 8. 2.0 Kings Romans Casino (1 review)
    - La Chine au Laos
    Casinos
See more..
