It is a view point at the North part of Lake Balaton. You have a beautiful view for Badacsony and other hilla in the neighbourhood and to the Keszthely Bay on the other side. You can just sit and watch the water or ghe sky because there are some benches there. It is ose to the road but quite silent. It has a car park, you have to walk only one minute from there. Castle park and exhibitions were also very nice. We bought combined ticket for ~13€/person which is valid for 6 exhibitions including Palace Museum, Coach Exhibition, Hunting Exhibition, Model Railway Exhibition, Travelling Aristocrats Exhibition, Palm House & Bird Park. All of them were very interesting and entertaining. Definitely worth the price. Visiting all of them is quite time-consuming but these tickets are valid for two days. Highly recommended for everybody. P.S. If you want to take photos you must buy photo permit for additional ~5€. See more..

This castle is set in the town of Keszthely on Lake Balaton. The Castle is set in parkland. You can enter the parkland for free and wander around taking in the view of the town , the fountains and the trees. Helikon Castle is really a grand palace. There is a museum complex of four buildings and here you will find five exhibitions. In the Coach House there is a wonderful exhibition of carriages and one can have a ride around the estate in a horse drawn carriage too. One of the wonderful features of this palace is the historical model railway exhibition. .The palace now belongs to the state but was own until WW2 by the Festetics family who still have apartments in the building. This is quite a lovely castle with grounds that you can walk around in at no charge. Stop at the cute café (sit outdoors if weather permits) and enjoy a coffee; the pastries are decorated in neon colors and weirdly tempting however I didn't try any. You can enter anytime. There is limited windows. There is a staircase inside so you can look down on the aisle. Outside you have to find off road parking especially as there is a narrow road. The Zalaszántó Stupa is one of the largest such facilities in Europe. The sanctuary was built in 1992 on the Kovácsi hill near Zalaszántó, in the middle of a forest. The snow-white structure is 30 m high and 24 m wide. You can't even get inside the sanctuary. The stupa looks really nice and the surrounding area is very peaceful. This park was near the place we stayed in and we liked it a lot! The fawn statue was very cute! And the dog statue was nice as well. Also there's a special track for walking barefoot, playground, botanical garden and even a bridge to hang ribbons with written wishes. Very beautiful. See more..

Heaven of Rhododendrons - an arboretum to visit during May (we were there on the 7th, a perfect celebration of Mother's day). In front of the entrance, there is a small flower-market, too. You can spend around 2 hours walking, surrounded by amazing colors of the nature. Opening hours : 8–17, but Weekends in May till 19h. There are some toilets inside, but not recommended. Lake Hársas is a beautiful, clear, small lake near the austrian border at the corner of north-west Hungary. It's about 15 km away from Szentgotthard, a border city to Austria. Surrounded by mountains and green forrests. You can reach by car or bike, than you need to climb up some hills :) This is an official, free, well established and equiped natural beach. It has all what you need: local street food booth (lángos, hamburger, hot dog and beers), shower and dressing room, first aid, toilets, tables and bench, shady places under the trees. Quiet, peacefull summer picnic. There is no sign of 3G neither 4G, so you can be really relaxed out of nowhere. The water is shallow, get warm easily, so really ideal for small kids. With permission, you can go for fishing, Opening time is up to 18:00 every day. Strongly recommended for families! See more..

This Shell parliament is part of the 7 museums you can buy a collector ticket to look around. It is in a basement, under glass, and quite unique in its own type. Was made by an older lady who collected 4,5 million pannon-sea shells then separated them by shape and colour to build the Hungarian parliament mock-up. That is a real proof that human can do everything if they want and there is no barrier, just have to invest time and energy. Her work is really respectable and the country can be proud of its people like she was. If someone is in Keszthely and have a look at one of these 7 museums, better to buy a collector ticket and see this parliament as well. See more..

A lovely museum of old buildings but so much more. The old houses that have been located here are interesting showing a cross section of Hungarian history, some not so old. But they have added to it immeasurably with animals, children's play area, numerous signs and investigation features for children and adults alike. I cannot tell you a lot about this because as we approached the church on the Sunday, we saw the priest come out and get into his car and drive off. We went in and unfortunately there are huge metal gates across the west end to prevent access into the nave. I suppose there is crime and vandalism and this is to prevent that. Anyway I can do no more than say that this was amazing and I have taken some photographs for you to see. I am told there is a lovely organ and terrific accoustics.
