- 5.0 Zoo Sosto (422 reviews)
-Lots of exotic animals in a huge, special park
Spent More than 3 hours Zoos
I have been here several times, but now we returned after four years. It has changed, developed. It’s the best and biggest zoo in the eastern Hungary. It has about 5000 animals, 500 species and 300 000 square meters. We were walking around and visited our favourite ones: monkeys, hippo, lions, tigers, cute meerkats and the others, too. We saw the dolphin-show. We spent 4-5 hours, and we ate in of its restaurants. We had a great experience, I recommend it. See more..
- 5.0 RepTár Szolnok Aviation Museum (81 reviews)
-Great museum
Spent More than 3 hours Military Museums • Speciality Museums
Really good museum with great exhibits and information about them. The highlight of the visit is that all personel speak English and could, when we visited additional activities, told us all about. And all personel was really helpful and nice in that regard. Nice addition to the museum is interactivity platforms, to show something extra. We went to all: simulator, 3D karika (gyroscope), seat in both planes, and VR experience. Unfortumatelly Zipline did not work, as it only works on weekends, we came there on Thursday. Gift shop is a nice place to get a gift or memory merchendise for children or adults. The downsize of the VR experience is the quality of the content, as it could be better. And content more perfected, to add extra touch to it (vrsolution.si). Otherwise it can be a great day trip for families, children or couples. See more..
- 5.0 Main Building of University of Debrecen (32 reviews)
-Functional and aesthetic building with majestic proportions
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings
The main building of the University of Debrecen was built bw 1927 – 1932. When inaugurated this was the third biggest building in Hungary after the Parliament and the Castle of Buda (both to be found in the capital). It is really monumental and still serves as the home of numerous University Departments and other establishments. Its central court, a multi-storey, glass-covered atrium is a unique sight and impresses the visitor being an internationally relevant architectural gem. It is home to the regular doctoral degree award ceremonies and other celebrations. It is worth just to take a stroll within the building, or around at the carefully manicured park. You are free to discover the many adjacent old or new buildings of one of Europe’s nicest university campus. See more..
- 5.0 Sosto Museum Village (25 reviews)
-A quiet gem in the busy part of the country
Spent 2-3 hours Speciality Museums
Sostogyogyfudo, a fashionable and popular spa and leisure center since the nineteenth century, is only five kilometers from the center of Nyiregyhaza. Built in 1971, the Sosto Village Museum, located near the spa in the north-western corner of the country is the only open air ethnographic museum in Eastern Hungary. See more..

- 5.0 Reformed Church (7 reviews)
-A hidden gem in eastern Hungary
Spent < 1 hour Churches & Cathedrals
We visited the Upper River -Tisza Region and this unique church in Takos. It was built in 1766 -as the legend said: it's made by just "mud and wood", without stones and bricks. This simple church is a good example of folk architecture, it's called "Barefoot Notre Dame". My favourite part : the beautiful, painted handcrafted ceiling (58 items with flower pattern). The church has a 16ms high tower, too. It's worth to visit it. See more..
- 5.0 Haranghaz Bell House (4 reviews)
-A Unique Attraction in front of the Spa
Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
Bell House is the youngest attraction of Hajduszoboszlo. It's located in the centre, in front of the Spa. This architectural creation presents the Oborzil Bell-heritage donated to the town. It's a circle-shaped open structure which contains 50 aluminium bells. It was planned by Zoltán Rácz (architect) who used a complex symbol.system: the four pillars symbolize both the four seasons and the four cardinal points. The bells and teh Bell House with its pillars is a unique creation. I think it's a must-see attraction in Hajduszoboszlo. Don't miss it! See more..
- 5.0 Szabadsag Square (3 reviews)
-Ample and perfectly tiled!
Spent < 1 hour Scenic Walking Areas
I love the way Hungarians tile their public spaces, so beautiful and with so much care, different colors and geometric patterns. Bravo! Szabadság Square- Freedom Square- is located in the center of Nagykálló It is bordered on the west by the building of the former county hall, while on the south it is closed by the Reformed monumental church. The square has a children’s playground, a fountain and several monuments and statues. The 1848 monument, created by Nándor Berky, stands in the park of the city center, once called the "Walking Garden". Almost among the walkers we can find the statue of the poet József Ratkó, the work of the sculptor Pál Kő, which was placed on the main square of the city in August 2014. On Szabadság Square is the building in which the county's first state grammar school opened in 1870 to operate in that place for 137 years. See more..
- 5.0 Luby-Kastély (3 reviews)
-Beautiful rose garden
Architectural Buildings • Castles
Very nice castle in the Eastern part of Hungary near to the Ukrainian border. The rose garden was beautiful with many many roses, it was fully flowered when we were there. There was a wedding when we visited the case, it is an amazing scene. The greenhouse was okay, but not even worth the ticket. See more..

- 5.0 The Boat-Head Cemetery (2 reviews)
-Nice walk
Friday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites • Cemeteries
This cemetery is still a working one so always be respectful. You can find here the monument/mausoleum of Kölcsey Ferenc who wrote the Hungarian National Anthem in this village. The headstones here looks like a boat. See more..
- 5.0 Bathori Istvan Muzeum (2 reviews)
-This is sooo cool!
Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • History Museums
We walked from our hotel to this site. the exterior is amazing! all kinds of statues coming from the wall etc to depict dragons, knights, fights ...It is just fantastic. I don't understand why this place, one of the origins of these tales, is not booming with visitors from all over the world. The museum is quite affordable. We took our time to see everything with great attention and the staff was so friendly...they asked my husband if he could come and help them with some boxes they were bringing from outside. I saw him smile and left for a minute and next he is carrying some boxes :-)! I should have taken a photo of him going up stairs. It was really ...unusual and I think funny, Later we were invited to a private room -now an office- and a very old ceramic traditional stove was there for us to admire. The lady was very thankful for his help - he is a very nice and friendly gentleman-. Like any history museum...there is lot to see and admire...But you will not find another museum with surroundings like this... See more..
- 4.5 Great Church (Nagytemplom) (254 reviews)
-Awesome rooftop views
Friday: 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM Architectural Buildings • Religious Sites
Beautiful and historical cathedral in the city centre. I used my civil servant discount which makes it even better. You can walk around and admire the interior, stained-glass windows, pews and alter. Or just have a quiet moment of contemplation and prayer. Further upstairs there is the historical church bell and original timber roof. And at the rooftop you get magnificent sweeping views of downtown Debrecen. You can see the trams coming and going, the European architecture and people going about their business. From outside the cathedral is magnificent. Amazing photo opportunities from close or faraway and there is a small park you can sit in and admire the architecture. See more..

- 4.5 Pásti Street Orthodox Synagogue (6 reviews)
-A renewed Synagogue with new functions
Spent 1-2 hours Architectural Buildings • Religious Sites • Churches & Cathedrals
I was very happy to take part in an exhibition (about a famous Hungarian actor: Ferenc Kállai) in this famous Synagogue in my local town. It's a beautiful old building, which was re-opened in 2015. The building itself is very nice and we could see lots of traditional objects as a permanent exhibition. The Synagogue now serves multiple purposes: it's not only a sacred space for the Jewish community, but a tourist attraction as well: a place for concerts and other cultural events. It's worth to visit it. See more..
- 4.5 Damjanich Janos Museum (5 reviews)
-Szolnok
Friday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Speciality Museums • Art Museums
The Damjanich János Museum can be found in the main square of Szolnok. The building opposite to the town hall was the third storey building in town built by Lajos Obermayer in 1860 and it gave home the famous Magyar Király Hotel (Royal Hotel). The Public Library and Museum Collection of Szolnok Town opened its gate to the public in 1934. The museum found its place in this nice classical building in the Kossuth square in 1952, and from that time the museum bears the name of the legendary hero of the Battle of Szolnok, General János Damjanich. The museum keeps the largest ethnographical, historical and art collections and the entire archaeological collection of the county. See more..
- 4.5 Jasz Museum (3 reviews)
-Lehel horn and stories about the wandering huns
Spent 1-2 hours Science Museums • Art Museums • History Museums
You can see the horn of Lehel, the leader of the huns. This horn is mentioned in a story about the battle of Ausburg (955 a.c), but in fact, this ivory horn is made in the XII. century. Near this you can learn the history of "jászok" (ias) a military nation originating from Iran and arriving to Hungary in the XIV century. See more..
- 4.5 Hortobagyi Tank Battle Memorial (3 reviews)
-T-34
Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent < 1 hour Monuments & Statues
A megállás, a tank felkeresése szerintem gyerekes családoknak, fotósoknak is ajánlott.A két napos túránk második napján álltunk meg Nagyhegyesről visszafelé.
