- 4.5 Angry Birds Activity Park Vuokatti (89 reviews)
-Great activities for all ages
Amusement & Theme Parks
We visited Angry Birds Activity Park in Vuokatti on a cold January afternoon with three kids aged 3, 6 and 8. We got there right at 1pm, which was the opening time, and were busily spending time on various activities for 5 hours. Initially the kids found the place almost overwhelming - they were running around randomly from one activity to another. Our whole family enjoyed the day and loved that there were activities for all of us to enjoy - both as a group and as individuals. Here are some of our favourite activities: Girl 3 - peddle cars and slides Boy 6 - skate boarding and scootering, foam pit and climbing wall Boy 8 - shooting pigs with ball canon Dad - super ball Mum - sitting down in peace while the kids entertained themselves. We thorougly recommend this place for any family! See more..

- 4.5 The Silent People (76 reviews)
-Silent People and Rendeer
Points of Interest & Landmarks
The crowd of almost thousand figures that make up the Silent People suddenly emerges before the passing motorist like some great stroke of magic. In the morning with light behind them, this motionless army appears morose, even menacing. However, as the day progresses their countenance brightens up and with the setting of the sun they present a distincly jolly and colourful picture. When the wind blows their straw hair and clothes begin to flap rhythmically, it is as if they had suddenly sprung into life. See more..

- 4.5 Winter War Museum Raatteen Portti (50 reviews)
-Do Not Miss This Museum!
Spent 1-2 hours Military Museums • History Museums
This museum is definitely worth the visit!! I strongly recommend you review some of the history of the Winter War (1939-40) and the Russian invasion with two full Divisions against a few hundred Finn soldiers, Border Guards, and Reserves who managed to stop the Russians cold! The museum has a battle display showing the action of the Ratte Road fight and uniforms and weapons of the combatants. It has excellent and very professional displays and is awe inspiring to think about what happened here the winter of 1939. The display of the tribute outside the museum is also sobering. It has 17 acres of stones on the ground representing the number of soldiers on both sides who died in this battle of Suomussalmi and Raatte Road. The history of this Winter War tends to be lost in the subsequent world conflict of World War II, but the bravery of the participants on both sides of this battle must never be forgotten. See more..

-Great soup, adorable animals
Nature & Wildlife Tours
We had been hiking for four hours and really wanted something warm to fill our stomachs, so we stopped here for reindeer soup. The place is super close to the Hossa camping area, five minutes by car. We were immediately greeted by a reindeer when we arrived and the owners were super lovely as well. After chatting with them (and having finished our delicious soups), we went to feed the many reindeer who were in a pen outside. It was amazing!! The animals were eager to get the food and you could feed them by sticking your hand through the fence. It was so lovely, I would definitely recommend this place to everyone who visits Hossa! -Great fun - if not a little scary!!
Temporarily closed - Closed until further notice Zipline & Aerial Adventure Parks
We came to the adventure park on holiday and did the first 4 courses. We were given full instructions. The staff were really friendly and spoke excellent English. We arrived a little late in the day and so could only sign up for the first 4 courses but, to be honest, that was enough for us. We were allowed to stay after closing to finish the 4th course. Our son (9) wasn’t able to finish it and had to be rescued which the staff did without fuss. We had a great day challenging ourselves. See more..
- 4.0 Kajaani art museum (11 reviews)
-Art of Marjatta Tapiola
Spent < 1 hour Art Museums
Kajaani Art Museum was opened to the public in April 1993. The museum’s exhibition rooms are located in the former police house designed by architect Eino Pitkänen. Completed in 1936, the building is an example of pure functionalist style. The fenced yard outside its northern wing leads to the old Town Hall which dates back to 1831.Kajana Art Museum have this summer an Marjatta Tapiola exhibition, which shows for example many long-lasting themes of her art – such as monumental skulls and the mighty bulls arising from Greek mythology. Many of the works was rather modern for me, but I liked the “Indian cow” and the Minoan Minotauros. Free admission. Well worth visiting. See more..

- 3.5 SuperPark (8 reviews)
-Overpriced for families with small kids
Friday: 1:00 PM - 7:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Game & Entertainment Centers
It's a shame they charge full price for every parent accompanying a small kid, as if the parent is going to have any own fun in the park. For example two parents for one kid you pay almost 40 euros for a small kids indoor park (the entrance for 0-3 year olds is free, though). If you have two families visiting with one kid each, you would pay 80 euros for supervising your 0-3yo kid. Ridiculous pricing. I'd reconsider this place if accompanying parents (unlimited amount) would be allowed in for free, they could charge 10 euros for small kids if they so whish (no, the parent is not going to sneak in to play in the theme park without paying, they are already tired enough of any "playing" around as it is). - 5.0 Kalevala Spirit (5 reviews)
-An amazing Christmas experience with the real santa!
Historic Sites
From the moment we approached my children were immersed in the magic of this visit. Santa's elves greeted us at various stages, showed us where the Reindeer sleep and took us into the main house, where the children made cinnamon cookies with the elves and we all had hot glöggi with the freshly made cookies. We were then taken on a hunt for santa, where we found him sleeping and the children had to shout to wake him up. They were absolutely stunned to meet the real santa, talk with him (he's a clever, multilingual guy) and even had a chance to have a cuddle and have photos taken. The Kalevala village is outstanding, an amazing reproduction of a traditional village and the Christmas experience is one to remember. I'm sure we'll be back regularly to check in with Santa as the children get older and perhaps even after a certain age when they aren't true believers they'll still insist on going to see the elves, who are quite an attractive species it seems :) See more..

- 4.0 Paltamo Golf Course (4 reviews)
-An Amazing Golf Course!
Golf Courses
I've played golf at many courses in India and the USA - both on the East Coast and in Southern California. Paltamo Golf Course is amongst the most picturesque that I have seen ... it compares very favourably with some of the better known country clubs that I have played in the US! Laid alongside a huge lake, the course is challenging and well designed. Each hole offers sufficient challenge to low, mid range and high handicap golfers. It was maintained perfectly when we visited in September this year - fairways and greens are like a dream and the rough is treacherous!! Without saying much more, I'll let the pictures do the talking. See more..

-Tar channels in Kajaani
Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks
Tar had become the most important commodity passing through Kajaani in the early 19th century . Tar burning was concentrated in Kainuu and the tar was transported along the Oulujoki River to Oulu Tervahovi for sale. The sale of tar come to an end and the Senate decided to abolish the locks on January 1, 1915 , after the canals had been in operation for 70 years. The Ämmäkoski closure was covered and the closure machinery was removed. However, the canal and barrier were rebuilt again 70 years later, in the early 1980s. The renovated canal with closures was completed in 1984 and is now the only operating tar canal in the world. Near to the Kajaneborg ruins. See more..
