    Siwa Oasis Tour image
Mohammed organised everything from start to finish, even booking us the bus tickets to get there and picking us up in Cairo to take us to the station. The itinerary was great, with lots of special moments, the highlights were the salt lake and the desert Safari which was a real surprise and absolute rush. Mohammed even went further and found us an amazing party for New Year’s Eve which we’ll never forget. It’s all the little moments and extra thoughts that made the trip. We will definitely recommend this to friends and family coming to Siwa! See more..

Mahmoud Demery is a treasure of a guide! Having grown up in Siwa, with his advanced degrees earned in Alexandria, he situates the wonders of Siwa within broader Egyptian context and history. Even better: he does it with such ease, humor, professional but chill vibes. We ended up spending all 4 days with him in Siwa, and it was such a great decision. Mahmoud customized each day based on our interests and energy as the trip evolved. Reach out to Mahmoud if you want to maximize and enjoy your experience in Siwa, as you like. See more..

    - Last I was there in 2006 it was still nice to visit..
    Bodies of Water
    Lake Zeitun image
From the aerial view there is now a building....probably a cafe, but back in 1987 and even in subsequent years it was a great place for a swim for a few hours. the water is somewhat salty but it matches the salinity of your eyes so you could open them fine underwater. less than 100 meters away they drilled for water and they get fresh but very hot water! Try to visit the bedouin on the outskirts. Very friendly with little contact with the outside world, try to visit when they are shearing the sheep! See more..

    El Alamein War Cemetery image
EL ALAMEIN WAR CEMETERY contains the graves of men who died at all stages of the Western Desert campaigns, brought in from a wide area, but especially those who died in the Battle of El Alamein at the end of October 1942 and in the period immediately before that. The cemetery now contains 7,240 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War, of which 815 are unidentified. There are also 102 war graves of other nationalities. The ALAMEIN CREMATION MEMORIAL, which stands in the south-eastern part of El Alamein War Cemetery, commemorates more than 600 men whose remains were cremated in Egypt and Libya during the war, in accordance with their faith. The entrance to the cemetery is formed by the ALAMEIN MEMORIAL. The Land Forces panels commemorate more than 8,500 soldiers of the Commonwealth who died in the campaigns in Egypt and Libya, and in the operations of the Eighth Army in Tunisia up to 19 February 1943, who have no known grave. It also commemorates those who served and died in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Persia. The Air Forces panels commemorate more than 3,000 airmen of the Commonwealth who died in the campaigns in Egypt, Libya, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Greece, Crete and the Aegean, Ethiopia, Eritrea and the Somalilands, the Sudan, East Africa, Aden and Madagascar, who have no known grave. 15. 4.5 Deutsche Kriegsgraeberstätte (34 reviews)
    - Teutonic Splendour
    Historic Sites
    Deutsche Kriegsgraeberstätte image
The British have a beautifully kept cemetery full of flowers, the Italians have a marble hall reminiscent of a reference library, but for the Germans nothing short of a Wagnerian castle would do. The initial impression is of an ancient mediæval fortress, and the true significance slowly dawns. This is a truly atmospheric place honouring the bravery of men who fought for their country, right or wrong. It is one of history’s great tragedies that the endeavours of the losing side are so quickly forgotten. I have seen cemeteries in France where commonwealth and German casualties share the same ground. What a pity that in the generosity of peacetime the same could not have happened at El Alamein. 16. 4.5 Sacrario Militare Italiano (7 reviews)
    - A very sombre and thought-provoking place
    Spent 1-2 hours Cemeteries
    Sacrario Militare Italiano image
In addition to the mausoleum there is a museum on site (a room full of war artefacts) which was so interesting and emotional. I am British and visited with my Italian husband, and it's hard to think that the two countries, amongst other nations, were fighting each other in the second battle of El Alamein. Definitely visit if you get the opportunity. By the way, I don't think that there is an official entrance charge, but we tipped the guys working there who must be so bored and hot, so take some change! And don't forget to sign the visitors book in the mausoleum. See more..

  20. 4.0 El Alamein War Museum (114 reviews)
    - A little gem on the edge of the desert
    Military Museums
    El Alamein War Museum image
The El Alamein museum is usually a shore excursion for cruise ships in Alexandria, but we went by local taxi, so that we could see it on our own at our pace. About 90 minutes from Alex, once out of town it's a 5-lane motorway. Although our driver (who had speed camera phobia) was a native of Alex, he hsd great difficulty finding this museum, as it is totally unmarked. Some of the cmeteries are signposted, but not the museum. Once there, it is a revelation: immaculately turned out with everything the history buff could want. Plus a charming young man to show us round and explain. Anyone interested in WW2 MUST go. I'm told, about 3 hours from Cairo, a small entrance fee payable in local currency. See more..
  21. 4.0 Temple of the Oracle of Amun / Aghurmi (84 reviews)
    - Alexander the Great came here--you should, too!

Temple of the Oracle of Amun / Aghurmi image
OK, I am an anthropologist so 'ruins' get me, but this one is fun, because it lets you see how the priests manipulated the visitors. You can see how the priests got the oracle to 'speak', and how the offerings 'disappeared'. I don't know whether Alexander the Great was fooled, but I was entertained! See more..

Female Solo Traveler from Canada I found Siwa Safari Tours while desperately trying to find a way to visit Siwa Oasis when other companies told me it was impossible. From the start Mohamed Badr was very helpful and after a few emails suggested I join a group tour for locals. I did and it was AMAZING. First off, they are very well organised for the travellers. Second off, they deliver exactly what they say: price, time, activities included and are trustworthy. I highly recommend them to anyone wanting to live this amazing experience in the desert. It was a highlight of my entire trip in Egypt. See more..

  30. 2.0 El-Alamein day tour from Cairo (1 review)

El-Alamein day tour from Cairo image
Pros: - Tour guide on time. - Nice car. - Friendly driver and tour guide. Cons: - The told us entry tickets to the war museum were not covered. We paid for it though it says in the description all fees are covered. - Tour guide barely new any information about the memorial and the cemetery. He was taking pictures and wandering around like a visitor saying last time he was there was 10 years ago. He did little to no talking which was weird until I cornered him once saying "give me a brief about the place" his answers were very generic I could easily tell he wasn't prepared and the situation repeated more than once. In the German memorial it's the beduoin doorkeeper that knew more about the place not him. And my friend knew more than he did. - Description said "Food, snacks and Drinks" are included. All we got were 2 small bottles of water , 2 Ulker with dates and pack of Borio. Loved the place but DEFINITELY NOT the service. See more..
