We traveled as a group of 6 ladies for 2 days and we can recommend Mahmoud The Fayoumer and his team very much. Mahmoud is an excellent and very knowledgeable guide and speaks excellent English. Amongst other sites we visited Wadi Al-Hitan (whale valley) which contains100s of now extinct fossil remains. Wadi El Rayan with two separate lakes and the only waterfalls in Egypt was also a highlight. Driving around the sand dunes was fun with the very skilled drivers Thalat and Ragab. We like to thank Mahmoud and his team. See more..

I had a fabulous time with Real Fayoum! Ahmed and Nasser are a joy to spend the day with and we even went camping which I will always remember as a fabulous time! They are knowledgeable of the area in history and modern culture. We experienced a great tour, great food and laughter the entire time. If you are looking for a tour in any part of Egypt, I highly recommend you to reach out to Real Fayoum or Real Egypt to get a customized and perfect tour to fit your schedule and meet your wishes! Al Fayyum and Wadi Al Hitan (the valley of the whales) is a must. A place like no other I've seen before, if you're interested in eco tourism, the desert and the magic lake are gorgeous. The whale fossils are unreal. Emo tours gave us a well planned out day where we drove through the desert in a 4x4, saw the fossils, went to the magic lake where I would have loved to stay and swim, then we had lunch in a beduin camp. Our guide and driver, Noha and Mustafa, were great, as usual (this was our 3th tour with them), we really enjoyed their company. See more..

- 4.5 Wadi El-Rayan (122 reviews)
-A waterfall in the middle of de desert
Waterfalls
Two lakes in the middle of the Sahara desert. And the two are connected by a waterfall. An incredible sight. They are two man-made lakes from agricultural drainage which has made a reserve of the two separate Wadi El Rayan Lakes. The reserve is composed of a 50.90 km2 upper lake and a 62.00 km2 lower lake. There is no natural recharge of water, but many decades have passed and despite the desert heat the lakes have not dried up. The journey is relatively long from Cairo and requires an armed escort due to the shifts that prowl the desert. The scenery is stunning, especially as there was no one else around when we were there. Definitely worth a trip. See more..
- 4.5 The Pyramid of Sneferu (15 reviews)
-Want a pyramid to yourself??
Points of Interest & Landmarks
(OK as well as a guide and the guardian, who stayed outside) Part of Snefru's (or Sneferu's) learning curve in pyramid design, this was built in steps. Like all pyramids, there isn't a lot in the centre when you get there, and getting there involves the usual long hot walk, climbing the external steps and then descending a very long slatted ramp followed by climbing a ladder into the empty burial chamber, but the tunnel doesn't need any stooping unless you are around 6' tall. - 4.5 Hawara Pyramid (13 reviews)
-Dangerous
Points of Interest & Landmarks
Beautiful, but, due to erosion, in poor condition! Hard to come and because terrorists are here too, it is a dangerous area! See more..
- 4.5 Lahun Pyramid (11 reviews)
-More of a photo-op for a different type of pyramid.....
Historic Sites
Because you can't go into it!! It's a ruined mud-brick structure with lots of fallen bricks surrounding it and the rock corner spokes visible that help to keep it 'stable', the outer parts having fallen away long ago A good example of the evolution of pyramid design. - 4.0 Qasr Qarun and Medinet Quta (13 reviews)
-Interesting Place to Visit
Points of Interest & Landmarks
known to be Ptolemaic temple (323 -30 BC) but has not been dated more precisely due to the absence of inscriptions. Built of blocks of yellow limestone, it is substantially complete, although the exterior has been partially restored by the Antiquities Department, and parts of the internal structure have been reinforced. it appears small from the outside , but inside is a veritable maze of chambers , corridors , cellars , tunnels , stairways , upper rooms , of all sizes at different levels , and numerous nooks and crannies , making it a fascinating place to explore . There are no inscriptions, but over the entrance flies the winged sun, and on the roof (reached by either of two square spiral staircases) is a relief of two figures: the crocodile god sobek on the left, a king on the right. there is a good view from the roof , of the desert to south and west , the cultivated land to the north and east , and the desert escarpment and ( sometimes , depending on the light ) the Birka to the See more..

- 4.0 Karanis (9 reviews)
-Very interesting
Ancient Ruins
A stop before entering Fayoum on the main highway to the Karanis site is frankly a must. The site itself was once the Capital of Egypt although most of it is ruins currently, however, the attached small 2-storey museum is extremely interesting as it showcases lots of women accessories from ancient times, as well as 2 real mummies on the upper floor. Must see! See more..
- 4.0 Caricature Museum (8 reviews)
-Interesting and historical
Spent < 1 hour Art Galleries • Art Museums
You can see caricatures from the beginning of 19th century about passing political situations in Egypt until this time. We payed 20 egp for the entrance, it’s about an hour to spend there. When visiting the Tunis village, I recommend to see this museum to have a better insight in the early history of Egypt from people’s point of view. See more..
- 4.0 The Hanging Mosque “ Al-Moallaq” (1 review)
-A 500-years old mosque!
Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings • Monuments & Statues
It was a surprise to found out that there is an old mosque in Fayyum. The hanging mosque or the mosque of prince Soliman. It built back during the Othman period by prince Soliman Ibn Hatem on 966 AH. The mosque is completely neglected by the government and no proper presentation or marketing is done for it. See more..

-Excellent indeed
History Museums
My wife and I enjoyed this tour and impressive site, supervised by the UNESCO and turned into a safeguarded and preserved area of international heritage and fame. We watched a 10 minutes documentary that provides you the history of the location and evolution and then we entered the small museum that is well worth the visit. Thereafter we walked through the petrified skeletons path which is complimented by a booklet providing you the map and explanations. Highly recommended and well worth it. See more..
