    Encuentro Beach image
Loved the beach and the people who work there. I suggest you look for Roberto (Robbie) or Zion in particular for lessons if you need/want them. I met Zion in the water while he was giving instructions. He was really amazing working with a young girl pushing her to test her limits and encouraging her in very positive ways. I am not sure who he works for. Robbie is from Cabarete surf camp and he was the nicest guy to deal with. He is there until about noon every day when he moves over to teach kite surfing at another beach. He gave us the run down in the breaks making the experience of Encuentro one of the best. The vibes in the beach and in the water were all positive. See more..

    Hiking Trails
    Isabel de Torres Trail image
So we had gone up the mountain in the cable car in the past and had heard three was a trail up as well. So we went and paid a guide 800 pesos a person (three of us) to walk us up. I felt that we were really just paying for the information. The trail the guide took us on was quite simple to find and go by yourself if you want to. The trail is marked quite well with red paint. Head out the gate at the back of the parking lot. After hitting the trees take a left and another quick left. The trail goes over a small creek (was empty when we went), around the edge of a baseball field and up a dirty/gravel road. After passing the Zion church place there is a trail off to the right marked in red. Up at the top the trail meets a paved road and it was a pretty step and sharp turn up to the road. The day we went it rained, but the hike was nice. See more..

  17. 4.5 Playa Alicia (51 reviews)
    - Clean, calm, quiet beach
Spent More than 3 hours Beaches
    Playa Alicia image
Wow!! Super clean, uncrowded, clear beach in Northern Dominican Republic. We found this beach after spending a week down South fighting off vendors and big waves. You take stairs down to the beach which is like a cove. One side has a cliff that is impassable with no beach around. It’s quiet, super clean, has chairs and umbrellas to rent, and the restaurants around it are high end. There isn’t any local flavor here but you will relax in beautiful water with beautiful scenery. The restaurant above sits on a cliff overlooking the beach. Go there for dinner at sunset! See more..
  18. 4.5 Paseo de Dona Blanca (19 reviews)

    Scenic Walking Areas
    Paseo de Dona Blanca image
The history of this street is very sweet. The street itself is absolutely gorgeous and a great location for photos! Free to visit. We ensured to go on a day when there wasn’t a cruise ship in port, and there was only a few other people on the street while we were! I’m attaching a photo of our AMAZING tour guide that brought us here! Jahaziel took us here amongst many other places in the city and I cannot recommend him enough! See more..

    - The seaside Avenue

    Malecon Puerto Plata image
Like in most Caribbean towns, the Malecon is the first street running by the sea. This one in Puerto Plata runs for 3-4 km, passing by some older houses within the residential area. However, this part is not that interesting for tourists. More interesting is the far western part of Malecon by the San Felipe park and fortress (read that review). This part was reconstructed, is well guarded by police, safe and interesting to see. See more..
