    - Post-card Perfect Beach! Go left at the entrance and have it all to yourself.

Things to Do in Samana Province image
Take it from a beach snob (I grew up on Cape Cod), this is one beautiful beach/bay. With swaying palms and turquoise waters, it looks like a Caribbean post card. From our rented villa, it was an easy drive. If you go right from the entrance, you'll be with all the other tourists, but that's the way to go if you want a chair. We went left towards Cano Frio, and practically had the beach to ourselves. The one draw-back is that there is some trash by the road, but not where you sit or swim. The restaurant all the way to the right serves good food, but, environmentalists beware, they do serve parrot fish. Though delicious, these fish are the cleaners of the reefs and vital for their health. Due to overfishing of parrot fish, Dominican reefs are in decline. Do eat local to support the economy, but also put your tourist dollars to work by requesting that you not be served parrot fish. See more..
  5. 4.5 Playa Bonita (1.170 reviews)
    - Playa Bonita is a must visit
    Beaches
    Playa Bonita image
As you might expect a lot of the ocean front properties are for rental properties, but that doesn’t mean you’re regulated to a small section of the beach. A lot of hotels double as restaurants with lounge chairs for people passing by or looking for a good meal. I have a family of five with the youngest being 6. The waves were calm (this changes during high tide) and there’s plenty of sea animals to keep you interested in snorkeling most of the day. The best way we found to avoid high cost is by parking in a parking lot a few blocks away from the beach. The security guards at resorts will guide you towards them of your not guest of the hotel. - A beautiful and unspoiled park

Things to Do in Samana Province image
We took a taxi and motoconchos to and from this park, staying over several night at Paraiso Caño Hondo and taking advantage of their day trips. Both the kayaking and the boat rides through the mangroves revealed many birds as well as the interesting flora. My family took the short hikes in to see the Taino caves. Altogether a beautiful place. See more..
  7. 4.5 Playa El Portillo (896 reviews)
    - simply paradise!
    Marinas
    Playa El Portillo image
Playa El Portillo is one of the most pristine beaches I’ve seen on my many Caribbean travels. It is gorgeous palm forest with white sands, calm and clear waters and plenty of water sports such as kite surfing, and other activities. The beach is long and wonderful for those who enjoy walking; it is very scenic and picturesque with many unique photo-op opportunities. Unlike Punta Cana, there aren’t very many resorts along the shore. The beach is protected by the barrier reef making it calm and enjoyable for swimming. Although there is quite a bit of reef and coral, there are nice sandy areas for swimming. Snorkelling is awesome so bring your mask and fins and enjoy the sights and marine life. See more..
  8. 4.5 La Playita Beach (702 reviews)
    - Horseback riding
    Friday: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Beaches

  9. 4.5 Playa Las Ballenas (430 reviews)
    - Gentle sloping beach that is sheltered from the wind.
    Beaches
    Playa Las Ballenas image
This beautiful beach extends 1.8 km west from our Costarena Beach Hotel ending at a long jagged coral wall. While the beaches to our east are hammered with wind and water currents, this beach seems tranquil and pointed away from the wind with little signs of erosion. Its also shaded in many place with the high coconut palms, kept reasonably clean and nearly a perfect place to sun bathe. Being toward the end of the beach road, the traffic is much less than the other beaches and makes a nice walk. Private homes and condo complexes make up the interior. See more..
  10. 4.5 Playa Moron (324 reviews)
    - Romantica!
    Beaches
    Playa Moron image
In the last 5 years I have seen quite a few beaches in the Caribbean and this one is a tie for 1st with Isla Saona. Both are amazing for two totally separate reasons. We went after the hurricane and most of the beaches were murky. This one was not and that may have been the reason we were the only people there. One other couple was off in the distance and a local, cooking in the entrance. The peace is immaculate and pristine. Waters are beautiful and calm for the most part. This a mountainous area so you feel very secluded and private as this provides a natural barrier. The view is amazing. The area we parked at had a couple of huge estates that were built into the mountainside and over hang the edge of the terrain. There is also a smaller land mass that sits in the horizon and adds to the visage. The thing I love best is it is away from the "tourist" world that most of the Dominican Republic is known for. 11. 4.5 Playa Punta Popy (289 reviews)
    - Paradise!!!!
    Beaches
    Playa Punta Popy image
They say Barahona is the best beach in DR and they couldn’t be more wrong (total disappointment). The beaches in Las Terrenas have beautiful water, soft current, clear water and fine sand. It’s just beautiful! Full of palm trees everywhere to provide enough shade. It’s simply beautiful and worth the drive! Will definitely be back. See more..
  12. 4.5 Playa Madama (245 reviews)
    - Great walk - Great beach
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Playa Madama image
The magic of going to this place is by walking or by horse. You can also get there by boat which is faster and safer if you're alone. Clean and clear air. Nature. And a beautiful beach! Once you get there, there is a cave and a crystal clear water in which you can snorkel and look at colourful fishes swimming around you. Very often there are fishermen with little wooden boats. When you're there, circle the place on both sides, climbing on the rocks around it. View is spectacular! Defenatly recommend it! See more..
  13. 4.5 Playa Coson (225 reviews)
    - Beautiful beach and great catch of the day meal.

    Playa Coson image
Visited in early January. It took a 15 minutes drive from Portillo where we were staying. It is a public beach.First task was to get a table at restaurant Luis and then head to select the fishes we were going to degust.Waiter comes and ordered drinks and more seafood from what was available that day.Headed to the ocean, sandy bottom, moderate waves and a beautiful experience.Dont expect fast service but who cares when you are having a great time. The grilled fish was excellent. See more..
  14. 4.5 Playa Fronton (208 reviews)
    - Amazing beach
    Spent 1-2 hours Beaches
    Playa Fronton image
Very private, hard to reach but you go there by a small boat and the view when you arrive is hard to describe with words. The beach has got the privilege to be on the movies of Pirates of the Caribbean which just says something about the quality of this beach. You can snorkle but watch out for sea urchins, if you step on one it will hurt ☹️ Also look out a bit for sand flees, they are not so fun either. If you are lucky like i was you will maybe be able to see whales from a distance but you have to be in DR between the middle of January til the end of March to have a chance to see them. Amazing beach, amazing experience and memories i will carry for the rest of my life See more..
  15. 4.5 Playa El Valle (182 reviews)
    - Sometimes the end of the road os worthwhile
    Beaches
    Playa El Valle image
We were actually looking for what an old tour link had said was a coffee plantation that offered tours. Needless to say it no longer existed but in our journey of trying to find out where we were, we got referred to an Eco-hotel where we found someone who spoke English. Turns out we were only about 0.5 kms from the ocean at that point and didn't know it. Well worth the drive, although the 1st time we were there the surf was crazy and no one was swimming. The week after was only slightly milder and many were in enjoying the waves See more..

  17. 4.5 Parada La Manzana (107 reviews)
    - Great local business
Friday: 8:30 AM - 4:00 AM Spent 2-3 hours Waterfalls
    Parada La Manzana image
Great local business! We felt more comfortable going to El Limon with a local business than with someone standing on the street. We were welcomed by Salvador who was bilingual and friendly. Our guides were local teenagers who stayed with us the whole time guiding the horse. Without the horse it would be a very difficult hike and wouldn’t recommend it. The cost was $30 US per person and that includes the horse, the guide and lunch. It takes about 30 minutes each way to the falls. El Limon is beautiful, a must see! You won’t be disappointed! See more..
