    - MonkeyLand with Cocoa and Coffee

    Runners Adventures image
We booked the MonkeyLand tour through Nexus. Our Driver Nelson was prompt, and we felt very safe driving with him. Our guide Angel was incredibly knowledgeable, hilarious and friendly. We enjoyed the additional information he shared as we drove through various small villages and through the mountains. The Monkey portion of our trip was very immersive and fun for all. Our young children were originally afraid but the guides showed them immediately that there was nothing to worry about and encouraged the monkeys to jump around and to have everyone smile. Beautiful photos were taken for a reasonable purchasing price (digital download). After the monkeys Angel took us up to a spot and explained how coffee, coconut, and cocoa were harvested and made into the products you and I know and love. It was educational, hands on and most of all, fun. We highly recommend the trip to anyone - especially if you get Angel and Nelson as your guide and driver. See more..

While you can't stay overnight on Saona Island—it's part of a national park—it makes for a great day out in the Caribbean. It’s a two-hour catamaran trip on gentle Caribbean waters to the island with food, drinks, and dancing, or a 30-minute speedboat if you’re pressed for time. Visiting Saona Island is best done as part of a tour that includes snorkeling and a stop at the waist-deep Blue Lagoon, where you will be able to see starfish. Macao Beach image
Absolute must see!! Best beach we’ve seen yet. Amazing for surfing. We seen some guys catching 2 waves at a time. Fun to play in the large waves. Not recommend for children, not a place for snorkeling. Will need water shoes as there are some rocks. The main access is located by a few restaurants and some small shopping boutiques set up on the sand, so bring some cash. There were horseback riding options on the day we went as well. Perfect place for adults to take pictures and relaxing on the beach. See more..

  14. 4.5 Juanillo Beach (925 reviews)
    - Nice beach and bar and grill
Spent More than 3 hours Beaches
    Juanillo Beach image
We stayed at TRS Cap Cana which has no beach...or at least a very sad small beach. The resort had a free shuttle to Juanillo beach so we went. It was excellent! Not sure why the negative reviews of the beach bar and grill. There were at least 3 waiters walking the beach, thank you Franklin! Several beer selections, including Budweiser...woohoo., and many mixed drink options. We ordered a chicken wrap and fries and got in within 10 Minutes. Excellent flavorful full of chicken wrap. Had 5 drinks and food for around $42 US. Lots of chairs to use but locals said it gets very crowded on the weekends. We were there on a Saturday and it wasn't too bad. Great beautiful water and soft sand beach. We would highly recommend if your resort does not have a decent beach. See more..
  15. 4.5 National Park of the East (601 reviews)
    - Great Hike to the caves
    National Parks
National Park of the East image
We went to Padre Nuestra Cave - we just drove to the park, paid 200Pesos per person entrance, and then 1.4 km further at the park entrance met a guide who offers a full tour for free (plus tips) which was absolutely awesome. He took us through the whole park, showed us the local plants, took photos and most importantly helped us on the last cave where you can swim in the dark in refreshing waters. You can also see the carving of the indigenous people here in this cave. Ramon (the Guide) is very knowledgable and friendly, we actually ended up giving him 1000 Pesos as a tip which was worth it. Can highly recommend this for any nature lovers! Bring good shoes, mosquito spray, water and bathing suit- no need for snorkelling gear as it’s too dark to see much in the Cave. We spent a total of almost 3 hours here. See more..

  20. 4.5 Cueva del Puente (57 reviews)
    - Definitely worth a trip if you appreciate caves and nature
Spent 2-3 hours Caverns & Caves
    Cueva del Puente image
Drive past all the resorts on the Dominicus Americanus and at the end you will find an entrance to the national park. Through the gate and turn right along the bumpy dirt road for about five minutes and you arrive at the car park with shady trees. There you will find someone (Spanish speaking only) to point you in the right direction. The cave takes about 40 minutes to reach walking through the trees, the last one third of which is uphill, but not really difficult. The cave or rather the series of caves are unlit, so you must take a torch or a guide with a torch. The caves have bats, so don't go if you are afraid of them. How long you spend in the caves depend on how many of them you visit. On the walk back, at the point where the path turns uphill, there is a very small path in the other direction onto the beach, which is completely empty there. We were charged DR$200 each as entry charge. The caves are supposed to contain Taino art, but without a guide, you won't be able to find it. See more..
  21. 4.5 Cueva Padre Nuestro (54 reviews)
    - Unique experience, walking distance from Bayahibe
    Caverns & Caves
    Cueva Padre Nuestro image
It was the most memorable experience from my trip to DR. Easy walk from Bayahibe, about 29 mins to the park entrance. See attached pix. It’s right behind the gas station at the crucero with the main road to La Romana. You can walk the whole loop or just back and forth to the cave. Strongly recommend closed end shoes, ideally with a rigid sole. The trail is easy, but the trail is sharp rocks. For the cave recommend flashlight and snorkel. See more..
