  1. 5.0 Ruta de la Miel (1 review)
    - A magical visit to the bees of Dajabon!
    Thursday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Farms
    Ruta de la Miel image
Attraction: in La Ruta de la Miel (The Honey Route), you can pay a visit to the bees of Dajabon (Dominican Republic) and buy directly from the source: raw honey and products made with it. Security: always by your side is a guide that understands bee behavior. You are provided with a protection hat, and smoke (to numb the bees without hurting them) is constantly sprayed. Experience Summary: you are welcomed by a guide who explains the region's biodiversity and the apiary's history. He talks about the characteristics of pure honey and debunks some popular myths around it. You will need to walk a few meters into the woods until you find many wooden boxes. They ask you not to be afraid and proceed to hand over the beehive, so you get the chance to hold and observe it for a short time. If you want to, you can open your hands to feel the tickling movements of a bunch of bees. On your way back, some sellers await for you with honey, soaps, and candles, all locally made. I suggest bringing some change because they only accept cash. Personal perspective: I was excited about the idea of going to an apiary, getting close to, and even holding a beehive in my own hands. As a bee lover, this exceeded my expectations, and I would certainly encourage anyone to plan a visit, especially if you care about nature and the environment. Side note: the apiaries of "La Ruta de la Miel" joined in an association and created a brand named "La Fronteriza" to sell their honey in big supermarkets such as Nacional and Jumbo. See more..

  5. 4.0 Dajabon Triumphal Arch (1 review)
    - A landmark in the city
Thursday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Dajabon Triumphal Arch image
The Dajabon Arch is the central attraction in town. It was the main arched entrance way into the town and was constructed in 1960. The arch is in the center of the main street, and is painted yellow and white. There are bold black letters stating "Votive Altar of the Dominican Republic" in Spanish on either side of the arch. At the top of the arch are the colours of the flag of the Dominican republic. There is a low black perimeter fence which surrounds the arch, but gates are at either end to allow access. You will have to cross the road to get to the arch. The town was officially named Libertador in 1938, but was renamed Dajabon in 1961. It is said that Toussaint L’Ouverture founded a town here in the early 1800's and named it Dahaboon. Other nearby attractions include the Central Park of Dajabon, which is a short walk south east of the arch. The main Park and Our Lady of the Rosary Parish church are a short walk west on Avenue Duarte. It would also be interesting to walk to the bridge at the border with Haiti, which is over the River Massacre. See more..
  6. 4.0 Parroquia Nuestra Senora del Rosario (1 review)
    - Beautiful church in the town center
Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Religious Sites • Churches & Cathedrals
Parroquia Nuestra Senora del Rosario image
Our Lady of the Rosary Parish church is located in the town center, and is a must see in Dajabon. It is opposite Central Park where the Duarte bust is located. The most attractive feature of the church is the four tiered bell tower at the front, which is topped by a cross. The second tier from the top, has clock faces on all sides. To the left of the church is a sculpture of Jesus in a white robe with red cloak over his shoulders. The sculpture stands on a pedestal which has a plaque with the year 1947. The sculpture is surrounded by a low hedge with red flowers, and there are a few benches in this area where one can relax. Between the church and sculpture, is a cross with a rosary on it. There is an attractive mural on the wall behind the cross. In a town of few attractions, this church is a must see. After visiting the church, head east towards the main street to visit the Dajabon Park and Arch of Dajabon. See more..
